Tory Lanez Lawyers Says Tory Hoped The Judge ‘Would Have Shown Mercy’

Screen Shot 2023 08 10 at 9.33.19 AM

This week Canadian rapper Tory Lanez was sentenced to 10 years in state prison following his conviction for shooting Houston rapper Megan the Stallion. Lanez was found guilty on gun possession charges and now his lawyer is saying his client feels low and is having a hard time processing the sentence.

TMZ reports:

Tory’s defense attorney, Jose Baez, tells TMZ his client is feeling pretty low right now after having the book thrown at him. We’re told Tory is having a hard time processing the sentence, but Baez also says despite that … Tory’s made it clear to him he’s going to remain strong and deal with his time behind bars as best as he can.

Jose says Tory is leaning on his faith in God, the support of his friends/family and the indignation his supporters around the world are expressing — many of whom are loudly lamenting the stiff punishment.

Baez says Tory was hoping the judge would show mercy — especially with the number of people who went to bat for him in court, including some celebs. We’re told the reason there’s so much outcry for Tory is because he was genuinely loved in the community … as he’d done a lot to give back over the years.

In the meantime, Baez insists an appeal is coming.

Beyoncé Tributes O'Shae Sibley, Who Died After Being Attacked While Dancing to 'Renaissance' Album

A suspect has been arrested for the fatal stabbing of O’Shae Sibley, who was killed after an attack at a gas station as he danced to Beyoncé’s Renaissance album.

According to the New York Police Department, the suspect is a teenager who has been charged with second-degree murder. The incident has also been labeled a hate crime.

Beyonce recently paid tribute to Sibley, honoring the late dancer with a tribute on her website, writing: “REST IN POWER O’SHEA SIBLEY.”

O’Shae Sibley was dancing at one of the gas pumps when he was approached by several men who said his dancing offended their Muslim faith.

Sibley was with a group of friends who were all shirtless and wearing swimsuit or shorts on one of the hottest nights in July. The Muslim men believed Sibley was wearing pink boxer shorts.

The suspects allegedly shouted anti-gay slurs at Sibley and his friends. “They were saying, ‘Oh, we’re Muslim, so don’t do this in front of me,” a witness said.

“From that I think it looks like a hate crime,” he added. “This guy was dancing in underwear and the suspect was like ‘Why are you dancing in your underwear?’”

The witness said the victim and his friends began arguing with the suspects. One of the Muslim men started recording on his cell phone.

The witness said the man recording the victim walked away through the parking lot. But Sibley chased after him and was stabbed by the man.

Sibley suffered a stab wound to the abdomen and left a trail of blood behind him as he staggered along the sidewalk before collapsing.

He was taken to Maimonides Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Sibley was well known in the ballroom community, CBS News reports.

The witness believes the suspect was motivated by homophobia. “Obviously, they are gay and if they are dancing that’s the problem they had,” he said.

Slowbucks Offers Update On Casanova: ‘My Guy in Great Spirits’

Screen Shot 2023 07 10 at 7.41.35 AM

Casanova is behind bars, serving a 15-year sentence in a court case that labeled the rapper as a “high-profile leader of a vicious street gang.” Giving an update on Casanova’s condition is Slowbucks, who shared a Facetime to his Instagram Stories.

“Don’t believe the hype,” Slowbucks wrote, HipHopDX notes. “My guy in great standards and in great spirits. Free @bigcasanova_2x.”

Casanova has officially been sentenced and now his legal team has officially filed an appeal. The Brooklyn rapper was viciously slashed across his face right before sentencing and his lawyer feels jail is not safe for him following his denouncement of the Gorilla Stone Nation gang.

According to HotNewHipHop, Casanova’s lawyer James Kousouros mentioned that because the Brooklyn rapper (real name Caswell Senior) denounced his formal ties to the Gorilla Stone Nation gang, his sentence should be reduced.

“The fact is that Mr. Senior stayed in this gang as it furthered his rap career,” Casanova’s lawyers said. “As he gained moderate success and then a recording contract with Roc Nation, he increasingly separated himself from the gang’s activities despite remaining a member.”

Casanova received 188 months or 15 years behind bars on June 27 from U.S. District Judge Philip M. Halpern. Included in the crimes he’s accused of are a shooting in Florida on July 5, 2020, a robbery in New York City on August 5, 2018 and conspiracy to traffic over 100 kilograms of marijuana.

“Caswell Senior is not just a notorious recording artist, but he is also a high-profile leader of a vicious street gang and a magnet for gang violence,” U.S. Attorney Damian Williams said in a press release at the time. “At a crowded Miami house party, Senior personally fired a gun that seriously injured and could have killed a victim, inciting a shootout.”

He continued: “Further, Senior’s stature in the community was central to Gorilla Stone’s successful recruitment and nationwide expansion. Today’s sentencing — along with the other significant sentences that have been imposed in this case — shows once again that gang life is not worth it and will lead to many years in prison.”

Casanova was the 12th defendant in the Gorilla Stone case to have been sentenced. Five more defendants have pled guilty and are awaiting sentencing.

After he received the sentence he took to to Twitter and issued a short message, saying, “Everything to the chin, Nothing to the heart. I GET IT NOW. I hope that don’t go over ya heads.”

Prior to his sentencing, Cas was assaulted in a bloody prison altercation that took place at Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark, New Jersey in early June.
