Lil Uzi Vert Explains Why He’s ‘Not Gonna Act Gangster’ When He Meets Fans

The well-known aphorism “never meet your heroes” often holds true, but one artist who’s always seemed to defeat that stereotype is Lil Uzi Vert. Throughout the years, the Philly native has become a fan favorite not just for his string of hits, but also for his entertaining interactions with his biggest supporters. Whether freestyling with fans in gas station parking lots or amusingly answering fans’ release date questions, Uzi’s joyful personality on record regularly carries over to his real-life personality. He explained why in a tweet:

“Im a happy person and I vibe with my fans,” he wrote. “If you see me I’m not gonna act gangster because that not what I am or who I am …. it’s okay 2 smile 😃🤓 I’m myself.”

He hasn’t had much opportunity for these kinds of interactions over the past year, but as live entertainment slowly awakens from its year-long pandemic slumber, it’s likely he’ll get many more chances at one of the many festivals at which he’s booked, which include Rolling Loud New York and Lyrical Lemonade’s Summer Smash in Chicago. Given he’s also teasing new music nearly constantly, telling fans in March that a new album is “coming soon,” a tour announcement can’t be too far off in the future.

In the meantime, you can hear Uzi’s guest verse on Pi’erre Bourne’s “Sossboy 2” and on Juice WRLD’s posthumous “Lucid Dreams” remix

P’ierre Bourne And Lil Uzi Vert Reunite On The Hypnotic ‘Sossboy 2’

Hitmaking producer Pi’erre Bourne reunites with Lil Uzi Vert on “Sossboy 2,” the final single from his upcoming mixtape, The Life of Pi’erre 5, which is due this Friday, June 11. The track was accompanied by an animated visualizer depicting the two artists as Dragon Ball-inspired cartoon avatars as they both rap over the hypnotic, synthesizer-heavy beat.

“Sossboy 2” is one of three tracks featuring guest artists on the 16-song project, including, of course, Playboi Carti and newcomer Sharc, who is signed to Pi’erre’s label SossHouse. Although Pi’erre is focusing on highlighting his solo talents, the three features all make sense; it was Carti and Pi’erre’s collaboration “Magnolia” that launched both to stardom in 2017, while Pi’erre produced a number of tracks for both Carti and Uzi on their most recent outings, Eternal Atake and Whole Lotta Red.

Pi’erre also produced the majority of Carti’s prior album Die Lit. Most recently, Pi’erre has promoted his SossHouse signees, producing three projects in 2020 for Chavo, Jelly, and Frazier Trill, as well as releasing a deluxe version of the last The Life Of Pi’erre tape, which included 15 new tracks.

The Life of Pi’erre 5 is due on 6/11 via Interscope Records. Pre-save it here.

J. Cole, Travis Scott, And 50 Cent Sign On As Headliners For Rolling Loud’s New York Festival

After being shut for more than a year, some of the biggest musical festivals are preparing for a strong return this year. But few will be able to match the energy Rolling Loud, as the platform just announced its third festival for the year. The Miami-born showcase will come to New York in the fall for a bout headlined by J. Cole, Travis Scott, and 50 Cent.

Out of the three acts, Cole is the only one who’s recently dropped a project, having released The Off-Season last month. Scott could have new music on the way, with his upcoming album, rumored to be titled Utopia, in the works. 50 Cent getting the headliner spot gives the New York rap legend an opportunity to put on a great show for his hometown.

Rolling Loud’s New York festival, which takes place during the weekend of October 28-30, will also feature a special guest performance from the state’s own Bobby Shmurda, who was released from prison earlier this year after spending almost seven years behind bars. Lil Uzi Vert, Gunna, Lil Baby, Roddy Ricch, Lil Durk, Jack Harlow, Rick Ross, Gucci Mane, Polo G, Moneybagg Yo, Joey Badass, Playboi Carti, Wale, Young Dolph, Griselda Records, and many more will also hit its New York stage.

Prior to the show, J. Cole is set to headline Rolling Loud’s Los Angeles festival while Travis Scott signed on as a headliner for its Miami festival.

Lil Uzi Vert Has Taken The $24 Million Pink Diamond Out Of His Forehead

Back in February, Lil Uzi Vert did something that was unprecedented (or at least unusual): He had a $24 million pink diamond embedded in his forehead. At the time, he explained why he had the diamond shoved into his forehead instead of put on something like a ring, saying, “I’m Lil Uzi. I’m turnt up. So $24 million on a ring is the stupidest idea because I’m gonna look down and that ring ain’t gon’ be there. I know me. I wake up in odd places and different sceneries.”

Now, though, things have changed, and Uzi no longer has the diamond on his face. Over the weekend, the rapper was spotted in Miami without the diamond in his head, and DJ Akademiks also shared a recent video that shows Uzi sans face diamond.

Uzi has not addressed why he decided to have the diamond removed, although it did seem to cause him some health issues. He previously shared a photo of himself bleeding from the diamond and wrote, “If I don’t get it took out the right way I could die. No seriously.” After deleting that post, he shared a video of himself with the diamond in his forehead and wrote, “Ok we good.”

Juice WRLD Battles A Demon Army With Lil Uzi Vert In Their Animated ‘Lucid Dreams’ Remix Video

Late Chicago emo-rap hero Juice WRLD’s rise to stardom began in earnest in 2017, when he released his Sting-sampling single “Lucid Dreams” to SoundCloud. After accumulating a huge following there, it was re-released in 2018 on Grade A Productions and Interscope Records, becoming a phenomenon and launching the young Juice WRLD to superstardom. Today, on the three-year anniversary of the release of Juice’s debut studio album Goodbye & Good Riddance, his label has re-issued the album with a remix of the song featuring a truly appropriate guest: Lil Uzi Vert.

At the same time as Juice WRLD was skyrocketing to fame on a parallel track thanks to his 2016 hit single “Money Longer,” his feature on Migos’ “Bad And Boujee,” and his 2017 breakout “XO Tour Llif3.” The two previously collaborated on the Goodbye & Good Riddance track “Wasted” and reunite here to combine their similar aesthetic and inspirations, with Uzi providing an extended verse to the ruminative track. An accompanying animated visualizer finds Juice on the run from a female demon, who commands an army of doppelgangers to pursue him through a nighttime cityscape. Fortunately, Uzi is there for backup, and with some creative uses of his new foreheard piercing (that diamond is magic!), the two escape the army and defeat their succubus foe.
