Jay-Z’s Team Roc Files Lawsuit Against Kansas City PD Over Alleged Misconduct, Lack of Transparency

Jay-Z’s social justice arm, Team Roc, has taken legal action against the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department (KCKPD) and the city’s government, accusing them of obstructing efforts to investigate claims of wrongful convictions and police misconduct.

The lawsuit, filed on Tuesday (November 19), alleges that the KCKPD has failed to comply with a public records request made under the Kansas Open Records Act (KORA) in November 2023. According to Team Roc, despite paying $2,200 in fees, the department has withheld crucial documents related to allegations of officer abuse and misconduct. The 225 documents provided, the group claims, were mostly irrelevant, consisting of personnel and training records instead of the requested information.

“Kansas City residents have suffered enormously as a result of KCKPD abuses,” the lawsuit states. “Some have been framed for crimes they did not commit; some have been coerced into providing false testimony; some have been sexually assaulted; some have endured brutal beatings; and some have even been killed. Rather than promoting a culture of transparency and accountability, the KCKPD has a long history of turning a blind eye to, at best, and even covering up, if not worse, abusive and/or corrupt conduct by its officers.”

Team Roc has been actively seeking transparency from KCKPD since 2021, previously filing lawsuits to obtain records detailing complaints against officers, as well as documents on the training and oversight of the department’s investigative division. The current lawsuit highlights a systemic pattern of alleged misconduct within the department, including framing individuals, coercing false testimony, sexual violence, excessive force, and even fatal incidents.

“When good faith efforts are met with bad faith tactics, the fight for transparency continues in court. Truth deserves no less. The people of Kansas City, Kansas, deserve no less,” Team Roc wrote in an Instagram post announcing the lawsuit.

Attorney Alex Spiro, representing Team Roc, emphasized that the organization has a right under KORA to access the requested records, which could shed light on the alleged abuses. However, the government’s resistance has made legal action necessary.

The government has attempted to block our access to those files, and so we’re suing to see what they don’t want us to see,” Spiro explained.

Team Roc’s lawsuit seeks to compel the release of the withheld documents and to hold the department accountable for its alleged failures in transparency and accountability. This latest legal move underscores their commitment to uncovering the truth and advocating for justice in Kansas City.

Megan Thee Stallion’s Lawsuit Against Milagro Gramz Gets An Official Trial Date

Megan Thee Stallion’s lawsuit against Milagro Gramz will officially go to trial on September 8th, 2025, a judge in the case ruled on Wednesday. The update came after the two sides requested that July 21, “or as soon thereafter,” be chosen as the date. Despite the trial date, Megan and Milagro will continue to explore the possibility of a settlement.

In her lawsuit, Megan accuses Milagro of allegedly spreading numerous falsehoods about her and the criminal case against Tory Lanez. “It’s time to hold bloggers accountable for years of harassment, cyberbullying and the publication of misinformation about my personal and professional life,” she said in a statement shared with VIBE. “I’ve endured countless attacks on my character based on false narratives from social media bloggers misrepresenting themselves as journalists. It’s unacceptable behavior and these individuals need to understand there will be repercussions for recklessly posting lies and defamatory falsehoods.” She says in the lawsuit that the falsehoods have had “a negative effect” on her “mental and emotional state.”

Milagro is getting legal help from Tory Lanez’s nonprofit legal team, Unite the People, through attorney Michael Hayden. Hayden, however, is not licensed to practice law in the state of Florida so she’s since hired another attorney to represent her.

Megan Thee Stallion Will Head To Trial Next September

The lawsuit comes after Megan released her new documentary film, In Her Words, in which she reflects on being shot by Tory Lanez in 2020. She also released a reissue of her third studio album, Megan, on October 25. Lanez is currently serving 10 years in prison after being convicted of the shooting, last year. Check out the latest filing in Megan Thee Stallion’s lawsuit below, as caught by reporter Meghann Cuniff.

SOURCE SPORTS: Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul Fight Sparks Controversy And Netflix Lawsuit Over Streaming Quality Issues

Mike Tyson is 'Feeling 100%' After Medical Scare And Trash Talks Jake Paul

Mike Tyson is 'Feeling 100%' After Medical Scare And Trash Talks Jake Paul

The highly anticipated showdown between boxing legend Mike Tyson and social media star Jake Paul was billed as the boxing event of 2024. With both men doing their part to fuel the hype, fans were eager to see the clash of generations in the ring. However, fight night left many viewers disappointed—not just by the fighters’ cautious performances in the later rounds, but also by widespread technical issues with Netflix’s live stream.

The streaming giant, which hosted the event, faced backlash as countless viewers reported buffering, glitches, and even an inability to access the fight altogether. These frustrations have now culminated in a lawsuit filed by Ronald “Blue” Denton, a Florida resident, who claims Netflix breached its contract to deliver a high-quality stream. Denton’s legal filing cites “no access, streaming glitches, and buffering issues” as evidence of Netflix’s failure and is seeking unspecified damages.

Social media was flooded with complaints from angry viewers, many of whom shared stories of being unable to follow the action in real time. The backlash prompted Netflix Chief Technology Officer Elizabeth Stone to address the streaming mishap in an email to employees. While acknowledging the technical problems, Stone highlighted the event’s record-breaking viewership. “We don’t want to dismiss the poor experience of some members,” she wrote. “Know we have room for improvement, but still consider this event a huge success.”

Neither Mike Tyson nor Jake Paul has commented on the streaming debacle, but other public figures have weighed in. Radio personality Howard Stern criticized Netflix for the issues and urged the company to fix its streaming technology ahead of its planned Christmas Day football broadcast. “You mess with people’s football, there is hell to pay,” Stern warned on his Sirius XM show. “I don’t know how this stuff works, but you’ve got to make sure it works.”

While the Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul fight generated significant buzz and drew massive viewership, the technical setbacks and subsequent lawsuit have cast a shadow over Netflix’s foray into live sports streaming. The pressure is now on the platform to ensure smoother experiences for future live events.

Photographer Who Sued Megan Thee Stallion Forced To Pay Her Lawyers

Megan Thee Stallion has had her fair share of court battles. The rapper was famously embroiled in a criminal case against Tory Lanez, and more recently, she was sued by a photographer named Emilio Garcia. He claims the rapper trapped him inside a vehicle while she had sex with a woman. Garcia then accused Megan Thee Stallion of creating a hostile, abusive work environment in which conditions were “intolerable.” His lawsuit fell apart, however, on November 19.

Meghann Cuniff reported that Emilio Garcia was sanctioned by a federal judge on Tuesday. The photog failed to appear during pretrial conference, and has subsequently been ordered to pay the fees of Megan Thee Stallion’s lawyers. Garcia has also been ordered to pay Roc Nation’s lawyers, as the notable record label represents Megan. Prior to the sanction, One of Megan’s lawyers, Alex Spiro, claimed that Garcia was merely seeking money. “This is an employment claim for money,” he told reporters. “No sexual harassment claim filed and with salacious accusations to attempt to embarrass her. We will deal with this in court.”

Megan Thee Stallion’s Team Called Plaintiff A ‘Con Artist’

Megan Thee Stallion’s other lawyer, Mari Henderson, went a step further and labeled Garcia a con artist who was attempting to use his proximity to the rapper to his advantage. “Plaintiff is a con artist who is manipulating the judicial system to act as his publicist and bullhorn,” they wrote. “In a desperate attempt to boost his failed singing career while trying to tear down the successful career of Megan.” To make matters worse, Spiro and Henderson questioned the competency of Garcia’s work when he was with Megan.

The legal reps alleged that Garcia falsified invoices and “overcharged for incomplete services” while serving as Megan’s photographer. They also accused him of seeking reimbursements for money he didn’t actually spend. Garcia was let go from Megan’s team in June 2023. Garcia argued that his termination was retaliatory after voicing concerns about the hostile work environment. Unfortunately, for him, the lawsuit has wound up costing a lot of money.

Netflix Sued Over Streaming Quality During Mike Tyson Vs Jake Paul Fight

Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul was the boxing event to end all boxing events. At least, in 2024. The former, a sports legend, and the latter, a social media sensation, did their parts to build up the hype. Unfortunately, things did not go smoothly come fight night. Fans were disappointed with the quality of the fight, and the ways in which both fighters seemed to be dancing around each other in later rounds. Well, those who got the chance to see the later rounds, that is. Netflix’s live stream buffered repeatedly during the fight, and now the platform is being sued!

The suit was filed by Ronald “Blue” Denton. The Florida native claimed that he struggled to watch the fight, along with thousands of others, due to the poor quality of Netflix’s stream. He specifically cited “legendary problems, such as: no access, streaming glitches, and buffering issues.” Denton feels that Netflix breached their contract agreement to stream the fight. He is consequently seeking unspecified damages from the streaming titan. Denton’s complaints should come as no surprise to anyone who tried to watch the Mike Tyson Vs. Jake Paul fight themselves.

Social media was swamped with complaints from users who couldn’t tell what was happening in real time. It got so bad, in fact, that Netflix CTO Elizabeth Stone sent an email to employees addressing the issues. She acknowledged that there were unforeseen problems with the stream, while at the same time noting that Netflix drew record breaking viewership during the Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul fight. “We don’t want to dismiss the poor experience of some members,” Stone explained via email. “Know we have room for improvement, but still consider this event a huge success.”

While Mike Tyson nor Jake Paul have commented on the streaming debacle, other celebrities have weighed in. Howard Stern, for example, blasted Netflix and urged them to get things under control before their plan to stream football games on Christmas Day. Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul may have resulted in a lawsuit, but a botched NFL broadcast would be, in Stern’s mind, an even greater debacle. “You f**k people’s football, there is hell to pay,” the radio host told Sirius XM fans. “You better not. I don’t know how this stuff works, but you’ve got to make sure it works.”

Diddy’s Sons Demand Author Of Alleged Kim Porter Memoir To Shut Down Sales

For the past couple of months, Diddy’s children have been extremely upset with the alleged memoir of their late mother, Kim Porter. The book, released by Chris Todd, aka “Jamal T. Millwood,” had the internet talking for a hot minute about its salacious, disturbing, and deeply personal material. It became an Amazon Best Seller fairly quickly despite the fact that none of the stuff in the paperback is confirmed to be true. Diddy’s kids made sure to spread that message in a past statement.

“Claims that our mom wrote a book are simply untrue. She did not. And anyone claiming to have a manuscript is mispresenting themselves.” Amazon did pull the “memoir” from their digital shelves early last month, but there’s still more work to be done. According to TMZ, Quincy and Christian Combs are threatening Courtney Burgess and his attorney, Ariel Mitchell, with potential legal action.

If The Book Isn’t Removed, Diddy’s Sons Are Suing

They sent out a cease-and-desist letter to these two because of Burgess’ heavy promotion of the alleged memoir. He was claiming that the entire book was unedited copy of Porter’s diary. Furthermore, he says he has a flash drive from people close to her with proof. Quincy and Christian are saying that flash drive is “patently false,” however.

However, if he doesn’t comply with the Combs’, then a lawsuit is coming his way. To be exact, Burgess has five days to stop selling the book, stop doing interviews, and to hand over any possessions of Kim’s that he claims to have. They might have some solid standing because the boys claim to be the heirs to Kim’s intellectual property rights after her death. The feds currently have Burgess’ phone which he says has a copy of the flash drive data for the memoir. It will be an interesting five days for sure.

Megan Thee Stallion’s Lawsuit Against Milagro Gramz Gets Possible Trial Date As Settlement Talks Continue

Megan Thee Stallion and Milagro Gramz have proposed July 21, 2025, as a possible trial date for their case regarding Megan’s allegation that Milagro shared false information about her and the criminal case against Tory Lanez. Despite planning ahead for trial, the two sides will continue to discuss terms of a settlement. “The Parties will explore the possibility of a settlement in good faith; however, it is premature to address whether settlement is likely,” a new joint filing in the case reads.

Megan filed the lawsuit late last month, describing Milagro as a “mouthpiece and puppet” for Lanez, who was convicted of shooting Megan in 2023. It’s unacceptable behavior and these individuals need to understand there will be repercussions for recklessly posting lies and defamatory falsehoods.”

Milagro has already made headlines for hiring Michael Hayden, who also represented Tory Lanez in his appeal case. Megan’s filing came just days after a viral story circulated all over the internet claiming that an appeals court had declared Lanez “innocent” in the shooting. While the news was fake, that didn’t stop several internet blogs from resharing the story on social media.

Young Thug Accused Of Netting $16 Million From Catalog Sale Without AEG’s Permission

Young Thug may have only gotten out of jail two weeks ago, but he’s already dealing with drama from AEG. According to a new report from AllHipHop, the company accuses him of unlawfully selling off the copyright stakes to over 400 compositions in 2021 for $16 million. The copyrights were allegedly supposed to serve as collateral for an unpaid loan that Thug and YSL had taken out in exchange for exclusive global rights to promote his live shows.

The company allges they lent Thug $5.25 million in 2017 with the expectation that he would repay the borrowed sum with interest, while also sharing revenue from concerts featuring third-party promoters. AEG alleges that Thug defaulted on the loan and originally misrepresented his ability to pay it back. Now, AEG wants the original sum plus interest as well as any earnings Thug acquired from the sale of the copyrights.

Expectedly, the entire drama was stalled once authorities arrested Thug and members of his YSL collective in 2022. They booked them with a massive RICO indictment at the time. After spending two years behind bars, Thug accepted a plea deal which allows him his freedom on numerous conditions. They include a 15-year probation sentence. In the time since getting out, Thug’s met with up T.I., posted cryptically about Gunna, and more.

His attorney, Brian Steel, even had him FaceTime students at his Emory Law School class to discuss the YSL RICO case. “I think it’s very, very, very important to become lawyers,” the rapper told the students in a viral clip from the class. “Over any other thing. Lawyers and doctors were the two greatest things that were ever founded. You actually help people and I think that’s God’s work.”

Soulja Boy Goes Off On “Broke-A**” Plies For Suing Him

Earlier this month, Plies hit various fellow rappers with a lawsuit for alleged copyright infringement, according to TMZ Hip Hop. This includes Megan Thee StallionGloRillaCardi B, and Soulja Boy. He alleges that they’ve used his “Me & My Goons” beat for their own songs “Wanna Be” and “Pretty Boy Swag.” On top of the artists themselves, Plies has listed Megan Thee Stallion’s Hot Girl Productions, Soulja Boy’s former imprint Collipark Productions, Universal Music Group, Collective Music Group, and Interscope as defendants. He’s seeking unspecified damages.

Recently, Soulja Boy hopped on Instagram Live to share his thoughts on the suit, making it clear that he’s not at all pleased. “Plies, if you don’t sit your broke a** down somewhere,” he began. “‘Pretty Boy Swag’ is not your beat.” He went on, accusing Plies of being a snitch and insisting that his beat is original. He also theorized that Plies is just suing him for financial gain.

Soulja Boy Insists “Pretty Boy Swag” Beat Is Original

Soulja Boy isn’t the only person who has a problem with Plies’ lawsuit, however. Shortly after he filed, Megan Thee Stallion’s producer LilJuMadeDaBeat fired back on X. He claimed that the song “Wanna Be” credits its sample to Big E, the original producer. “My Dougie came it in 2006, Me & My Goons came it in 2008. Big E the producer of ‘My Dougie’ is credited on Wanna Be,” he wrote. “For the Record Pretty Boy Swag is a remake of My Dougie as well. Soulja Boy is on the My Dougie Remix. Me & My Goons literally not even the single for that Plies album.”

Plies has received additional backlash for the lawsuit on social media, as users accused him of going after Black women in particular. “This lawsuit isn’t a strategically timed attack against Black women,” his lawyer Aaron J. Thornton said in response. “Plies has said a lot of meaningful and important things in support of Black women.”

Kanye West’s Former Employee Details Alleged “Antisemitic Tirades” Involving Kim Kardashian

Recently, Kanye West was hit with yet another lawsuit from a former Yeezy employee, Murphy Aficionado. He accuses the Chicago artist of discrimination, creating a hostile work environment, wrongful termination, failure to pay wages, and labor code violations. Aficionado also claimed that Ye’s alleged “antisemitic tirades” were a “daily occurrence,” according to Rolling Stone. Moreover, he said that these alleged tirades often involved the Kardashians.

“The Jews are out to get me. They froze my bank account. The Jews got Kim [Kardashian] and my kids. The Jews convinced Kim [Kardashian]. She has Jewish masters,” he recalled Ye allegedly saying at one point in the suit. “Ye’s antisemitic tirades and conspiracies were a daily occurrence. Often, these outbursts involved how Jews controlled the Kardashians. Other times, Ye recounted how Jews were going after him and his money.”

These are far from the only allegations in Aficionado’s lawsuit, however. He also accuses Ye of inappropriate conduct with his wife Bianca Censori in the workplace, according to TMZ. Allegedly, the performer told him to meet him at a Beverly Hills hotel room back in 2022. When he arrived, Aficionado claimed that it was apparent Ye and Censori had been having sex, as she was allegedly topless and his pants were unbuttoned.

He says he was instructed to stay put while Ye went to the room Censori was in, and proceeded to hear “loud moaning and clapping.” Allegedly, he came out a few minutes later wearing a t-shirt with a swastika on it and showed him nude photos of Kim Kardashian. At the time of writing, Ye has yet to publicly address the lawsuit.
