Jets To Sign Veteran WR Randall Cobb

The New York Jets spent the offseason building a home for Aaron Rodgers. They added one of his go-to receivers in Allen Lazard. Then they signed his former backup, Tim Boyle. Eventually, they were able to land Rodgers himself for a package of draft picks. While Rodgers comes with some risks, he immediately launches the Jets into playoff contention.

Aaron Rodgers inherits a young, strong wide receiver room to work with. As mentioned, there’s former Packers teammate Allen Lazard. But you also have 2022 offensive rookie of the year Garrett Wilson, Denzel Mims, and veterans like Corey Davis. The Jets did not address skill positions before the fifth round of the draft. Overall, they took a fifth-round running back and a seventh-round tight end. However, it appears that they are not done signing talent just yet.

Rodgers and Cobb Reunited In New York

Randall Cobb has been around the NFL for a while. Drafted in the second round of the 2011 NFL Draft, Cobb was one of Rodgers’ primary targets through the 2018 season. However, injuries began to wear on Cobb and he was cut by the team after the season. Despite this, he returned to Green Bay in 2021 after single-season stints with the Cowboys and Texans. Reportedly, re-signing Cobb was one of Rodgers’ conditions to stay with the team in 2021.

However, according to new reports, Cobb will soon be following Rodgers to New York. This comes as little surprise, as Cobb was named on Rodgers’ wish-list that he provided to the Jets during negotiations in March. Cobb was 7585 career receiving yards and 53 career touchdowns. His best season was in 2014, when he recorded 1287 yards and 12 touchdowns. Cobb holds the number five spot on the Packers all-time receiving list. As for other players on Rodgers’ list, only one remains theoretically available. That player is former Packers tight end, Mercedes Lewis. However, it seems unlikely that the Jets will add Lewis, given they have five tight ends, most of them veterans, on the roster heading into training camp.
