Several reports have confirmed that award winning rapper and producer Lil Jon took his “shahadah” or confession of faith in the religion of Islam, publicly announcing his conversion on Friday at the King Fahad Mosque in Los Angeles.
In front of a large congregation at the L.A. mosque, Jon, whose birth name is Jonathan Smith, recited the shahadah in Arabic and then in English, under the guidance of the mosque’s imam.
Jon becomes the second notable American to embrace Islam during the first week of Ramadan this year, following in the footsteps of writer and political activist Shaun King. Other well known figures such as Clarence Seedorf, Andrew Tate, Kevin Lee, Gervonta Davis, and Thomas Partey have recntly converted to the faith.
Chrisean Rock is someone who has angered fans in the past thanks to her actions. Overall, she has caught a lot of flack thanks to her new Blueface tattoo. In fact, she has lost over 400K followers since acquiring it. Subsequently, she has been getting into religion and continues to preach Christianity on her social media. While this isn’t necessarily a bad thing, it seems like she is using her religion to judge other people. For instance, her take on Islam and the Israel-Palestine situation will have you in shock.
Essentially, Chrisean is saying that the people of Palestine are in a conflict because they are not followers of Jesus Christ. “They don’t believe in Jesus,” Chrisean Rock said. “So that’s why it’s happening right there.” She then went on to criticize how Muslims worship and even implied that they are unsanitary people. “I seen videos where they pray at. It’s cockroaches and infested with … so, what is God trying to tell us?” Rock asked. “What is the message being the chaos. Yeah, we know war, the war. But things always happen for a reason and it’s happening.”
She went on to talk about how Muslims pray to Allah and not Jesus. It was all bizarre, and she understandably enraged a lot of people. “That’s where Jesus was born at but it’s like a lot of people over there, they don’t pray to Jesus. They praying to Allah and they saying Jesus just was a prophet. So, I thought it had something to do with that,” the reality star stated. “Here she go….. more religion talk while she not abiding by not a word of it…. Then talking about Muslims… smh,” one person wrote on Live Bitez. “I think she need to worry bout herself here in the U.S.,” said another.
What Chrisean and many others fail to realize is that there are many Christians living in Palestine. Therefore nullifying anything the reality star said. John Gabbana, previously known as Boonk Gang, says that celebrities are converting to Islam because it’s trendy. Gabbana, who converted to Christianity years ago, explained his opinion in a rant on social media, Friday.
“I’m starting to see celebrities convert to Islam like it’s a trend,” he began. “It’s cool to be Muslim now. I’m curious on one thing. What’s drawing y’all to Islam? Do y’all know there’s no miraculous information that Mohammed was even a prophet? He didn’t even write the Koran. Check this out: the Koran was gathered and put together 600 years after the events of Christianity. Now, why would we take a document written 600 years later to tell us what happened to Jesus when we have eyewitness testimonies to tell us what happened to Jesus? It’s called the New Testament. It’s in your Bible. And the Muslim would claim the Bible is corrupt except where it helps their theology. Islam is not the true world religion. Christianity is.”

Expectedly, Gabbana quickly began receiving backlash for the post. In the caption, he wrote: “Following Jesus FR comes w real persecution. I ain’t seen nun of dese ppl get as much hate and rejection as I do for sharing one’s faith.” Check out Gabbana’s post on Instagram below.

Gervonta Davis has changed his name to Abdul Wahid following his recent conversion to Islam. Directly translated, the name means “Servant [of the] Absolute One” or “Servant [of] Allah”. Wahid converted to Islam last week, formalizing his conversation on December 24. He joins the ranks of a number of high-profile Muslim boxers currently fighting. Devin Haney is also an active follower of Islam.
Wahid said he chose to convert in order to further his personal faith journey. It has been a tough year for the boxer. Earlier in the year, he spent 42 days in jail for his 2021 hit-and-run conviction. Wahid had initially served his sentence under house arrest. However, he was remanded to a jail cell after a judge objected to the conditions of his house arrest. As a result, Wahid hasn’t fought since he defeated Ryan Garcia in April. His next fight is unknown at this time.
Meanwhile, Wahid recently addressed fans clamoring for him to fight two-division undisputed champion Naoya Inoue. “I’m not fighting him. He’s NOWHERE near my weight. [I don’t know] why this page keep posting sh-t like this,” Wahid said in response to a fan-made poster hyping a fight between the pair. Nicknamed “The Monster”, Inoue has made a name for himself as a generational talent at the bantamweight and super-bantamweight divisions. He is currently 26-0 after unifying the super-bantamweight title in a fight against Marlon Tapales.
However, Waid currently fights at a minimum of lightweight, two divisions higher than super-bantamweight. That would mean a massive jump for Inoue to make to be on the same weight level as Wahid. In the mindset of two great boxing champions who came before him, undefeated B-More native Gervonta Davis has taken his Shahadah, therefore converting to the religion of Islam. Video footage of Davis taking his Shahadah has surfaced while criticism has already been given to the boxer for the Islamic name he has now chosen for himself.

Just as famous Muslim converts Muhammad Ali and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar chose new names along with their new religion, Davis has chosen the name Abdul Wahid, which means “slave to The One”. Imam Hasan Somali disclosed Davis’s Muslim name, explaining, “The attribute that he chose, the name that he chose as a Muslim, is Abdul Wahid. It means the servant of the One, from the names of Allah, the name of God, which is Al Wahid.”
It is not confirmed if he will continue to fight under the name Davis or his newly received name. Other athletes such as Kyrie Irving and Mike Tyson continued to use their given names in public after their conversion to the most practiced religion on the planet.
Converting to Islam is something that rappers have been doing on and off for a long time recently. It’s nothing new to see even modern rappers getting in touch with their faith. Earlier this year Lil Durk shared some pictures to Instagram where he did just that. Recently, Finesse2Tymes expressed his interest in converting to Islam when he finished his new album. And now, NLE Choppa is joining them and all the rappers that came before them.
A new video of Choppa officially converting made its way online earlier this week. While it’s unclear when exactly the video is from, this is the first most fans had heard of his official conversion. Though the clip is short it seems to confirm Choppa’s commitment to the decision. In the comments of multiple reposts of the video online fans give him credit for the move. Earlier this year, NLE Choppa released his new album Cottonwood 2. It was a follow-up to his 2020 studio album From Light To Dark and Choppa has absolutely made the most of the new project. He’s released a variety of different versions of the project including a deluxe edition, an instrumental version, a slowed-down version, and a sped-up version. The newest edition of the album is a Deluxe 2.0 edition which adds even more tracks. The grand total of material on the newest version of the project is a full 40 songs that runs more than 2 hours.
Last month, Choppa was at the center of one of the strangest viral rap stories of the year. His mother had to take to social media to ask is anybody knew where he was as he had disappeared. Overnight, Finesse2tymes took to his Instagram story to make a comment about his upcoming album. It wasn’t any kind of formal announcement nor did it really have anything to do with the music on the project itself. “After this album, I’m converting Muslim” he said in an otherwise blank story post. Unsurprisingly, this prompted a variety of reactions online from rap fans online.
Now Finesse is responding to some of the backlash he faced from particularly critical fans. “Y’all always making fun and laughing when a person trying to get they life together, If u struggling and wondering why, it’s because u look down on everybody and u still down yourself,” he responded in the comments of a repost of his original comment. He made a full, heartfelt statement on the importance on mental health and how online trolls are only bullying someone more successful then them. “Mental health awareness is real, And converting to Islam, Muslim, it’s all the same, but y’all look for for any flaw to laugh at someone who’s successful or doing more than u, I understand, god bless u people, inshallah,” he concludes.
Last month, Finesse2tymes dropped a new collaboration. He teamed up with Tee Grizzley for a new single. The track was fittingly titled “Grizzley 2Tymes” and featured an impressive amount of chemistry from the pair. The track is clicking with fans as well racking up more than 1.8 million streams on Spotify in the moth since it was released.
The last single of his own that Finesse2tymes shared came at a fitting moment. In August, he dropped the single “Can’t Go To Jail.” The song hilariously came just a week after he was arrested. The arrest spawned from a federal warrant issued back in 2018. The hilariously timed song featured guest verses from Sett and YTB Fatt.
