New York City Mayor Eric Adams Believes Drill Rap Videos Should Be Banned From Social Media

There’s been a recent uptick in murders and shootings involving drill rappers in New York City, and new mayor Eric Adams wants to do something about it. He sees a direct correlation between the content of drill rap and the murders and shootings that have occurred because of it. “I had no idea what drill rapping was, but I called my son and he sent me some videos and it is alarming,” Adams said during a speech on Friday. He then suggested a plan to ban drill rap videos from social media as a hopeful solution.

“We are going to pull together the social media companies and sit down with them and state that ‘you have a civic and corporate responsibility,” Adams said. “We pulled Trump off Twitter because of what he was spewing,” he added. “Yet, we are allowing music, displaying of guns, violence. We are allowing it to stay on these sites, because look at the victims. We are bringing them in, we are going to show exactly what is being displayed and we are alarmed by it. We are alarmed by the use of social media to really over proliferate this violence in communities.”

Adams’ comments come after Fivio Foreign shut down the idea that drill rap is the cause of violence in New York City. “This the drill community, and I know like, the police and everybody be looking at n****s like n****s is starting trouble, but niggas ain’t really starting trouble,” he told TMZ . “They tryna feed they kids.”

Rihanna Opens Up About Her Pregnancy And Shares How Makeup And Fashion Have Helped Her

A few weeks after Rihanna and ASAP Rocky revealed that they were expecting their first child, Rihanna is opening up about her pregnancy. The singer was seen on the red carpet for the first time since the announcement during the Fenty Beauty Universe event on Friday night. In a conversation with People, Rihanna spoke about the “challenge” of not letting her personal fashion style go away because of her pregnancy. “I like it. I’m enjoying it,” she said.

“I’m enjoying not having to worry about covering up my tummy,” she added. “If I feel a little chubby, it’s like, whatever! It’s a baby!” Rihanna also detailed how fashion and makeup have helped to keep her confidence high through her pregnancy. “Right now, being pregnant, some days you just feel like, ‘Ugh, I just want to lay here on this couch all day.’ But when you put on a little face and a little lipstick, you transform,” she said. “You put some clothes on, and it’s like, when you look good, you feel good. I’ve heard that for a very long time, but it’s true. It really can get you up off that couch and make you feel like a bad b*tch.”

Rihanna’s comments come after she shared a new picture of her baby bump to kick off Black History Month. Her father also chimed in about her pregnancy, saying he’s “ecstatic” about the news and hopes that she has a girl.

Kanye West Speaks About ‘Black Future Month’ And Being Open With His ‘Mistakes’

On February 16, the first part of Kanye West’s documentary, Jeen-Yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy, will be available to watch on Netflix. On Friday night, the director duo held a screening of the film for an audience in Los Angeles, with Kanye himself in attendance. This comes after he requested final edit approval over the documentary earlier this month. He also demanded that Drake narrate the film, but both requests were turned down.

At the screening, Kanye took a moment to speak about Black Future Month, a term he coined to replace Black History Month. “When you have people next to you that believe in you, and a community, and that the community sticks together, that’s the way that we can protect each other,” Kanye told the crowd. “Out here in Hollywood a lot of times, I got my man DaBaby right here, people try to cancel us and we all run away from each other.” He continued, “We not talking to each other, not communicating, and that’s why on Black Future Month we stood up and said, ‘We got stand next to each other and we ain’t gonna let each other go when someone brings up one mistake that someone did.’”

Later on in his speech, Kanye also spoke about his “mistakes” and why he’s open with them.

“When y’all see me doing certain things that y’all wouldn’t expect us to do, and y’all want me to step back and be a house***a, that’s not my position. My position is to make what y’all might think are mistakes in public, so I can show you that that ain’t no red line, that ain’t no real wall. That’s just a smokescreen, and it’s for us to take this. We on labels we don’t own, play for basketball teams we don’t own. The time is now. I got offered $100 million by Larry Jackson to put Donda on Apple, but I ain’t never got a meeting with Tim Cook. So it ain’t about the money, it’s about our power and out respect collectively. So I be saying stuff that people try to remind me in Black History Month that people got killed for. But this is Black Future Month.

Kodak Black Was Involved In A Fight Outside Of A Party For Justin Bieber And It Led To Four People Being Shot

On Friday night, Justin Bieber held a performance in West Hollywood at the Pacific Design Center. Afterward, he threw a after party nearby at The Nice Guy, and according to TMZ, the event featured a stacked guest list that included Drake, Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Kendall Jenner, and Khloe Kardashian. Things were initially smooth sailing, but at around 3 am local time, a fight broke out outside the after venue. Before the chaos began, Kodak Black was standing on the street smiling and talking alongside Gunna and Lil Baby. When things got out of hand, he reportedly got involved, taking a swing at someone.

The fight was caught on camera and video was provided by TMZ. Shortly after Kodak throws a punch, gunshots can be heard, which causes everyone in the area to flee the scene. Law enforcement told TMZ that four people were injured after ten rounds of gunshots were fired. Officers add that the wounded individuals are all in stable condition and that the suspect(s) remain at large.

The fight and the shooting that followed come after Kodak Black had his trespassing charges from a Florida arrest dropped. He was detained on New Year’s Eve in his hometown of Pompano Beach for failing to comply with a cease and desist letter.

Diplo Prepares For His First Solo Album In 18 Years With ‘Don’t Forget My Love’ Featuring Miguel

It has been a while since Diplo last released an album under his own sobriquet — 18 years, actually. This year, though, the EDM mainstay will end that drought with the 14-track album, Diplo. Dropping on March 4, the self-titled album will contain collaborations with Aluna, Busta Rhymes, Leon Bridges, Lil Yachty, and R&B singer Miguel, with whom he worked on the new single Diplo released today, “Don’t Forget My Love.”

The new track is straight-up old-school House, with a dramatic build over a scatting rhythm with bold piano chords rushing into a pulsing four-on-the-floor beat anchored by Miguel’s soulful vocals. Miguel’s lyrics evoke a classic “tonight is the night” vibe, describing a free-for-all party while admonishing his companion to remember him in the morning.

In support of his new album, Diplo has a few high-profile performances planned, including a set at Shaq’s Super Bowl party, Shaq’s Fun House, tonight in Los Angeles, and select appearances on Bad Bunny’s upcoming World’s Hottest stadium tour. And while it hasn’t been quite as long since Miguel’s last full-length release, fans still eagerly await the follow-up to his 2021 EP, Art Dealer Chic, Vol. 4 and his 2017 album, War & Leisure.

21 Savage And Blxst Lend New Verses To Fireboy DML’s Latest ‘Peru’ Remix

Nigerian singer Fireboy DML took a huge step in crossing over to US success in 2021 with his tropical single “Peru” — especially after adding British singer Ed Sheeran to its remix earlier this year, launching the single onto the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Today, Fireboy gave the single a shot of added adrenaline with another new remix, this time tapping trap rap superstar 21 Savage and emerging West Coast crooner Blxst to contribute similarly optimistic verses to the upbeat single.

In his verse, 21 Savage brags about his success over the past few years, boasting that he’s accumulated “twenty million dollars in a year and that’s with no shows.” Meanwhile, Blxst offers a romantic stanza of his own, pining for the company of a woman who makes him ponder changing his plans. “I’ve been wanting you so bad / That you might make me backtrack,” he rhymes. “Might just fly away / Just touched down from MIA.”

Fireboy’s toehold on US pop culture has steadily increased over the past year after collaborating with burgeoning talents like D Smoke on “Champion” and established stars such 6lack on “Sere.” By this time next year, he could very well be one of the can’t-miss talents from his home country who are leading Afrobeats’ mainstream takeover, joining such stars as Davido and Wizkid at the forefront of the genre’s globalization.

Kylie Jenner Reveals The Name Of Her And Travis Scott’s New Baby

After months of rumors, Kylie Jenner announced this past weekend that she had given birth to her and Travis Scott’s second child together. Many believe the child is a boy since Jenner shared a blue heart emoji alongside what is presumably the child’s birth date, “2/2/22.” Now, it seems Jenner has finally revealed the baby’s name.

On her Instagram Story today, Jenner shared a plain image of white text on a dark gray background that reads, “Wolf Webster,” followed by a white heart emoji. Scott’s legal name is Jacques Berman Webster II, so it would seem Wolf Webster is in fact the baby’s full name.

TMZ previously reported that according to “sources familiar with the situation,” both Jenner and the new baby were in good health after the birth and that Stormi, Jenner and Scott’s first child, is “excited” to be a big sister.

The Bump notes that the name “Wolf” is German in origin and that according to data from the Social Security Administration, it was the 3,996th most popular first name as of 2020 and has climbed up the ranks in recent decades. Nameberry also notes, “Wolf is a name with a split personality. It can be seen as one of the fierce animal names, like Fox and Bear and Puma, with a touch of the werewolf, or it can be viewed as a quieter, Wolf Blitzer kind of name, fairly common in German (where is pronounced Vulf) and Jewish families, sometimes as a short form of Wolfgang.”

Tate McRae’s ‘She’s All I Wanna Be’ Video Is A Super-Charged Dance Competition

Though Tate McRae has already been blowing up over the last few years, her latest single “She’s All I Wanna Be” has some serious momentum. Though it might still have some of the sad energy that Tate songs tend toward, check “Feel Like Sh*t” and the ubiqutious “You Broke Me First” for a refresher — like her Khalid collab, “Working,” the song takes a more complicated issue and turns it into something of a banger.

In the song, Tate is focused on some potential competition, who she thinks might steal her man’s attention, and the video plays out this narrative beautifully. In the clip, Tate and her rival, along with a colorful ensemble of other dancers, face off on the stage, dancing their way through choreography that mimics the song’s chaotic energy. In the description of the Youtube video, Tate let her fans know exactly what inspired the concept for the video. “I hope u guys enjoy this music vid that we put together,” she wrote. “I was super inspired by the incredible dance film Chorus Line. So happy this is finally out!!!!!!!!” Which is just another great reminder that no matter how big a pop star Tate becomes, she’s always going to be a dancer first. Check the video out above.

Dr. Dre Jokingly Warned Eminem And Snoop Dogg To Keep Their Junk In Their Pants During Their Super Bowl Performance

During the press conference for Dr. Dre’s upcoming Super Bowl halftime show featuring Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, Mary J. Blige, and Snoop Dogg, the West Coast rap impresario refused to offer any insights into potential surprises during the performance, but he did offer assurances regarding what fans won’t see: anyone’s junk. After Snoop brought up the infamous “wardrobe malfunction” from the 2004 Super Bowl halftime show with Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake, Dre jumped on the opportunity to razz his notoriously mischievous costars.

“I had to talk Snoop and Eminem out of pulling their penises out,” he joked. “Especially Eminem.” You can check out the full press conference above.

Of course, the wild days when you could expect Snoop or Eminem to troll America this way are far behind both. In one of Snoop’s recent interviews regarding the upcoming performance, he waffled about performing one of his most iconic songs while admitting to being “nervous about watching it to see what the reaction is.” Eminem likewise admitted that the preparations were “f*cking nerve-wracking,” telling Sway Calloway that “there’s nothing more final than live TV… if you f*ck up, your f*ck up is there forever.”

Both men also have outside endeavors to think about: While Em’s serving up Mom’s Spaghetti (here’s Uproxx’s review for any Angelenos looking to try it out), Snoop will be hosting the Puppy Bowl with his buddy Martha Stewart.

Drake Is Betting Over $1 Million On The LA Rams And Odell Beckham Jr. In Super Bowl LVI

Drake’s gambling history is sort of infamous at this point, as he’s willing to lay out huge sums on the outcomes of everything from basketball games to roulette spins, getting lucky and losing in more-or-less equal measure. Naturally, with Super Bowl LVI kicking off this Sunday, he’s got a lot of money on the line, posting screenshots of his online wagers to Instagram. In total, he’s got $1.26 million (in Bitcoin, no less) riding on the outcome, split across three bets.

He’s got $472,364 on the Los Angels Rams to win outright over the Cincinnati Bengals, while two prop bets posit his friend, Rams wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., to receive for more than 62.5 receiving yards ($393,636) and score at least one touchdown ($393,636). They’re all relatively safe bets, with payouts of $713,244, $712,457, and $846,288, respectively — the Rams have the hometown advantage, after all, and ODB has been relatively solid all season despite tearing his left ACL during the 2020 season (something Drake can relate to).

However, should he hit on all three, he’s looking at just about doubling his money ($2,271,989), so they aren’t bad bets either. His post explained the rationale behind them with the caption, “All bets are in on the family.” The rapper, like much of the country, will be tuned in with crossed fingers this Sunday.
