Abstract Mindstate Readies Their Kanye West-Produced Reunion Album With “A Wise Tale.”

Kanye West may be reenergizing the entire rap game by teasing the imminent release of his tenth studio album Donda, but it looks like his long-delayed project isn’t the only year-long promise that he’s following through on. As a bit of a refresher, Kanye previously tweeted a “YEEZY SOUND ROSTER PROPOSAL” on July 11, 2020, and the artists mentioned in his cryptic YZY SND endeavor were himself, CyHi da Prynce, Clipse, Tony Williams, North West, KC, and a veteran underground Chicago rap duo Abstract Mindstate — who actually gave Kanye one of the first major features in his career.

A full year later, Abstract Mindstate’s YZY SND debut, like the long-awaited Donda, is finally set to release. On August 6, the duo will come out of retirement to share Dreams Still Inspire, its first studio album in decades. To make matters even more exciting, it has been confirmed that Kanye West will fully produce Abstract Mindstate’s reunion album.

Those looking forward to hearing what Abstract Mindstate and Kanye West have cooked up for Dreams Still Inspire will definitely enjoy the album’s first single, titled “A Wise Tale.” As soulful as Common and Kanye’s mid-2000s collaborative efforts, Abstract Mindstate’s latest release is a two-and-a-half-minute track that places expert lyricism over an infectious soul sample.

Listen to “A Wise Tale” below and let us know if you’re looking forward to Abstract Mindstates’s Kanye West-produced YZY SND debut.

Quotable Lyrics

She got a secret, don’t know if she keep it
Don’t know why she hide it, guess it’s convenient
She like a zebra, two things at one time
It ain’t black and white when you’ve lived it a lifetime
She got a story, might be a fable
No categories, she don’t like labels
She like a loner, maybe she’s selfish
Something is fishy, but she don’t like shellfish

Kanye West & Drake’s Relationship Updated By Karen Civil

Yeezy Season is here. Kanye West is about to release his tenth studio album Donda, premiering the new song “No Child Left Behind” with Vory during the NBA Finals on Tuesday night. The music legend has been making headlines all week as we gear up for yet another tumultuous rollout, and it looks like another wrinkle has been added to the upcoming release.

For the last few years, Kanye West and Drake have been feuding on and off, making petty references in their song lyrics. During his Wyoming studio sessions, Kanye was working with Drake, offering to send him a sample that the Certified Lover Boy had fallen in love with and when they fell out, ‘Ye dropped his infamous “poopity scoop” bars on “Lift Yourself,” which essentially blocked Drake from using the sample

With a confirmed release date at the end of this week for Kanye’s new album Donda, some fans have speculated that Drake might try to take over his big day by dropping his highly-anticipated album CLB, but according to industry executive Karen Civil, that’s not going to happen.

“They friends now,” revealed the journalist on Twitter. “He not [gonna drop on the same day].”

While this is far from confirmation that the two are back on good terms, Karen Civil has a great track record and generally only comes through with legitimate takes. If she’s saying that Kanye and Drake are friends again, there’s a chance that it could be true.

Do you think we’ll see Drake on Donda, or Kanye on Certified Lover Boy?

Young M.A Pregnancy Rumors Sparked All Kinds Of Memes & Jokes

Young M.A was trending last night and when people clicked into the trend to see what had happened, many were surprised to realize the reason. The New York-based rapper didn’t release a new album– she was trending because of her previous comments about wanting children, and fans misunderstood her remarks, believing that she was pregnant.

“Of course, my girl is the one that’s gone be pregnant,” she later clarified when the rumors started getting out of hand. “That’s why I looked at her and mentioned her smh. Y’all bored lol, but I get it… Sell ya stories, and we workin’ on one now.”

This morning, the “Off The Yak” artist returned with another message about the false alarm, saying, “I turn opinions into financial positions… I turn fake rumors into great humor.”

Despite her denying the pregnancy rumors, the internet was quick to share jokes and memes about the speculation, with some even photoshopping a baby bump onto the rapper. Check out some of the most popular responses to the trend below.

In other Young M.A news, she’s recently been teasing a remix to her viral hit record “Off The Yak,” asking fans who they would like to see on the song. We’ll keep you posted as the remix is released.

Lupe Fiasco Puts On A Rap Clinic With “Jean Grey”

Lupe Fiasco has had his hands full of late, having found himself embroiled in a heated disagreement with podcast co-host Royce Da 5’9″. And while it’s unclear as to whether or not the two lyricists will settle their differences in the battle rap arena, Lupe has opted to keep things moving with the release of a new Instagram freestyle titled “Jean Grey.”

“Eid Mubarak Gift To The Fans,” he captions, as he takes to Kali Uchis’ “Telepatía” and casually puts on a lyrical clinic. “I’m back to bass like he Derrick Hodge, say my prayers like I’m scared of God,” he raps. “In my backyard doing samurai moves, wearing pods / he’s kinda square and odd.” At this stage, it’s safe to say that rapping has become second nature to the martial-arts aficionado, and it’s always interesting to hear the new ways he approaches an instrumental.

Check out “Jean Grey” now, as shared on Lupe Fiasco’s Instagram page, and sound off if you’re down for a new album from the lyricist.

Tyler The Creator Directed A Hilarious Converse Commercial Featuring Bill Walton And Vince Staples

Tyler The Creator is a longtime fan of Converse and has collaborated with the brand on a number of fascinating releases, including his Golf Le Fleur line. It’s likely his love of the brand stems from his roots as a skater in LA, where the kicks are a symbol of multiple different subcultures — and often, a connector of those cultures, bringing together punks, skaters, and gangbangers over their shared love of the Chuck Taylor All Star shoe.

When the brand tapped Tyler to create a short film (a commercial, really) highlighting this connection, they say they had no idea what they were going to get. Knowing Tyler, though, they were sure it’d be a reflection of his off-the-wall sense of humor and unique worldview and it’s probably safe to say they weren’t disappointed in the result, a minute-long spot titled “The Really Cool Converse Club.”

The hilarious ad depicts a group meeting of various subcultures tied to the shoe full of members of Tyler’s own wildly diverse friend group and Converse’s longtime brand partners like NBA legends Bill Walton and Marques Johnson, stand-up comic Josh Johnson, actor Tim Meadows, rapper Vince Staples, punk icon Henry Rollins, and Odd Future member Jasper. Converse skaters Milton Martinez and Louie Lopez and actors Errol Chatham, Arsenio Castellanos, and Jackson Randall also make appearances.

Tyler explained his vision in a press release: “I instantly thought about the many pockets of people that wear Chucks – like skateboarders, soccer moms, kids down the street, guys in the neighborhood I grew up with – and I wanted to put them in one place, that was important to me. Everyone wears Chucks…including pirates.” I won’t spoil it for you here but I will say The Really Cool Converse Club has some pretty strict rules.
