PJ Morton Releases New “Be Like Water” Single With Nas and Stevie Wonder

unnamed 17

On his new track, “Be Like Water,” PJ Morton brings together two of his biggest musical heroes: Stevie Wonder and Nas. The new track will be featured on his upcoming album, Watch The Sun, released on April 29.

The song, which blends strings, synths, and shifting tempos to wash away the worries, is a message to remain fluid and adaptive to life’s trials and changes.

“‘Be Like Water’ was definitely a phrase I had heard before,” says PJ Morton. “Bruce Lee made it famous of course, but it didn’t fully connect with me until we were all shut down and I had to pivot in my life like we all had to. After I finished writing it I could only hear Nas’ voice on it. For him to actually get on it blew my mind. Then when Stevie Wonder agreed to be on it and to learn that Nas had always wanted to work with Stevie, it was beyond my wildest dreams!”

Watch The Sun will also feature Alex Isley, Chronixx, El DeBarge, Jill Scott, JoJo, and Wale.

You can hear the new single below.

Today In Hip Hop History: GangStarr Dropped Their Debut LP ‘No More Mr. Nice Guy’ 33 Years Ago

Screen Shot 2022 04 22 at 4.28.54 AM

On this date in 1989, Boston native Keith Elam and Houston native Christopher Martin, better known as Guru and DJ Premier, came together to continue the legacy of Gangstarr and released the group’s first full studio album entitled No More Mr. Nice Guy.

Released by overseas label Chrysalis Records, Gangstarr, and their debut release ironically had a heavy influence on the NYC Hip Hop sound, even though neither artists were native New Yorkers. Tracks such as “Positivity”, “Conscious Be Free” and the album’s lead single, “Manifest”, exposed Guru’s unparalleled slow flow, while instrumentals like “DJ Premier In Deep Concentration” just set the pace for who Hip Hop would later recognize as one of the greatest producers in the game.

Supreme salute goes out to DJ Premier, Guru(RIP), the Elam family, the Gangstarr Foundation and the entire East New York for creating a pivotal moment in Hip Hop history.

Honoring Prince on the Sixth Anniversary of His Death

Prince's Estate Valued at $156.4 Million | The Source

One of the greatest musicians of all time, Prince, passed away six years ago today. A true cultural icon, the impact of the late superstar still echoes across current musicians, while his anthems continue to receive plays worldwide.

Prince Rodgers Nelson was born on June 7, 1958, signing to Warner Bros. Records at 18 and delivering his debut album For You at the age of 19. Throughout his career, Prince would release over 40 albums, including the titan of Purple Rain.

Purple Rain was Prince’s sixth album, released in 1984, and was supported by his band The Revolution. The album reigned at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 for 24 weeks and spawned mega-hits “When Doves Cry” and “Let’s Go Crazy.” A film of the same name would release in July 1984, winning an Academy Award for Best Original Song Score. The prolific musician and songwriter was nominated for a Grammy 38 times and received 7 awards total throughout his groundbreaking career. Prince passed on April 21, 2015, at the age of 57.

“Prince was the greatest all-around artist, musician, songwriter, producer, and performer of all time,” said L. Londell McMillan, Prince’s longtime partner, manager, and attorney. “No one comes close to his incomparable genius. Wow, I was such a lucky man to be his friend and partner for decades.”

This summer, Prince will be the subject of a new exhibit in Chicago’s Magnificent Mile that will include interactive experiences. “Prince: The Immersive Experience,” created by entertainment company Superfly in conjunction with The Prince Estate, will launch on June 9 in The Windy City. According to Rolling Stone, the new exhibit will highlight Prince’s life and his music through an interactive experience. The exhibit will bring guests across multidimensional spaces that highlight the artist’s career. In addition to those spaces, “Prince: The Immersive Experience” will incorporate an audio-visual dance space that will be soundtracked by the legend’s multiple hits.

“I am looking forward to this exhibition and they better have my brother Prince presented in the royal manner and light he deserves,” said McMillan.

Justine Skye Slams Upcoming Giveon Single: “Weak Ass Song”

Justine Skye

All good things must come to an end. It’s unfortunate to see former love birds Justine Skye and Giveon separated and at odds after reports surfaced that the couple broke up due to Giveon allegedly cheating.

During her “Wine Down Wednesday” segment on Instagram live, Justine Skye revealed how she caught her lover boy ex cheating on her after going through an old phone. Skye stated that she received a text from Giveon while he was out on a date with another woman and when she asked him what he was doing, he lied and mentioned that he was out with friends.

Skye stated that when she called the singer out, instead of confessing, he texted his friends in a panic, looking for an excuse to give her, but the singer decided to break things off with no luck. “When he said, ‘I’m done,’ I was like… You’re done?” she stated before showing him the screenshots of the messages she saw. “And I said, ‘No, I’m done.’”

“People like that don’t last,” she added. “That for sure was the craziest lie that I have ever caught someone in.”

It seems that the two will now be releasing new music within the same week. The “Work You Hard” singer announced that she would be releasing her song titled “What a Lie” on Friday, April 22nd, before her former boyfriend would announce his forthcoming single “Lie Again” the following Friday, April 29th.

A Twitter user would put the artwork of both artists side by side with some interesting emojis before Justine would quote the tweet saying, “I already know what this weak ass song sounds like anyway, it’s not what yall think it’ll be.”

Raise your hand if you will be tuned into both artists’ singles. We will be! Check out the cover art below.
