GloRilla Puts A Memphis Spin On Holiday Music With Kehlani-Assisted “Xmas Time”

GloRilla has received a lot of gifts in the form of nominations, awards, and plaques in 2024. She sort of acknowledges that fact on her new song, “Xmas Time.” “And I might’ve had a Christmas that I ain’t get a thing that was on my wish list / I celebrated still because I knew that I was gifted / (Put that on the gang) / I’m just one of God’s children.” This is the Memphis MC’s first crack at making a holiday-themed track and it’s got an interesting twist in its second half. Kehlani, a first-time collaborator, is also on here, and provides a sweet and thoughtful chorus.

It’s part of the reason why part two is so off the wall. With frequent producers like Ace Charisma and Yo Gotti on here, it definitely raised some questions as to where this song might go. Well, it turns out that it becomes a Memphis trap Christmas banger. Bells and piano keys accent the dirty bass and kick drums synonymous with the city’s hip-hop roots as Big Glo gets a little more PG-13 compared to its PG first half. While it’s a bit of a mish-mosh of tones and sounds, it’s got some great messages and personal touches that give it that Christmas spirit. You can check out “Xmas Time” with the live performance video link below.

Quotable Lyrics:

Maybe it’s all I need
Moments like this with my family (Family)
Nothing compares to how it feels, Christmas time
I remember those days when the nights got cold
Leaning on each other made our hearts grow more
Nothing compares to the love at Christmas time (On gang)

Loe Shimmy Selects Brent Faiyaz To Accompany Him For Remix Of Hit “For Me”

Since bubbling at the start of the 2020’s decade, Florida rapper Loe Shimmy is easily having his biggest year yet in 2024. The Pompano Beach native has ramped up his production exponentially, as he has put out now four projects. His Zombie series of records has ballooned up to 4.5 now thanks to him kicking things off with Zombieland 2 back in March. The .5, or .6 in this case, comes from the deluxe version of that aforementioned record. Finally, the latest entry is The Z Files, which features a series of remasters and other songs. However, that fourth project has broken the streak and its titled Nardy World.

It’s out as of today, November 8, but we want to shift our focus to one track in particular. Loe Shimmy and Brent Faiyaz are generating some buzz for their left-field collaboration, “For Me.” Outside of it being an unexpected link-up, it’s creating some excitement thanks to “For Me” being Loe’s biggest song. For context, the Zombieland 2 cut currently boasts over 12.5 million streams. Given the stark stylistic difference of these two, you would think this collaboration would have zero chance. Well, to be honest, it’s actually pretty decent. Faiyaz comes in with some of his smoothest vocals to date over the understated and lowkey skittering production. He steals the show to some degree, and we wouldn’t mind hearing him over the beat by himself someday. But let us know how you are feeling about it below.

And I know, and I know you put that on for me

Benji Blue Bills & Lazer Dim 700 Are Ready To Get Active On Load Out”

Five-year underground rapper from Georgia, Benji Blue Bills, is back with one of the fast risers in his hometown in LAZER DIM 700 for a new record. It’s actually their first track together and it’s called “Load Out.” It arrives after an Instagram post from the former documenting their link-up. “I fw luh Lazer 👾” Blue Bills wrote about a week and a half ago. Then, yesterday, he shared a teaser of the music video for “Load Out,” which is out now on YouTube.

This track also follows Benji’s third solo project 500k Degrees, which dropped back in late August. As for LAZER DIM 700, he’s been having a nice few weeks himself. In particular, his feature game is thriving. He was on VonOff1700’s “Dead N****s” with Polo G and most recently teamed up with Denzel Curry and Bktherula on “STILL IN THE PAINT.” Overall, “Load Out” is pretty standard fare from both Benji and and LAZER. It’s violent and almost cynical, as well as grungy and dark. Their chemistry is there though, so for fans of each of these MC’s we want to know what y’all think. Check out the single first and then leave your thoughts below in the comments.

Brodie Fresh Teases Upcoming Album With Boldy James Joint “Boldy Fresh”

Brodie Fresh has been rapping for about eight years now, but fairly sporadically. 2022 is sort of the year in which his production began to pick up quite a considerable amount. That would be the point in his career in which he would release his first project, Lost & Found. He would get some features from some more recognizable names such as Kirko Bangz and Conway the Machine. That latter collaboration would lead to Brodie becoming an opener for the Griselda affiliate’s recent Slant Face Killah tour. Moreover, it’s led to them collaborating together not too long ago for “Lo Island”. But Brodie Fresh isn’t stopping there this year, in April, he put out his second project, A Kid From Elmont: Fosters Meadow Side A. But at just seven tracks, it felt like more of a sampler. It turns out we were correct because the New York native is gearing up for a third tape called Dogma.

The business owner (car detailing) and rapper announced this news to his IG just hours ago. “Album Officially Turned in 🥂Heart & Soul in everything I do! I appreciate everyone tapped in. Let’s take this to the Moon 🌙 ‘DOGMA’ The Album 💿”. It will be out exactly one month from today, with potential promotional singles being “Yea”, “Lo Island”, “Hard Knock Life” with Mozzy, and “Toast” with Maxo Kream. The latest though is “Boldy Fresh” which features –you could probably guess– Boldy James. It sounds like a beat that the latter would tackle. It’s got dramatic string sections and a banging and dusty boom bap rhythm. Check out the track with the link below.

Ray Vaughn & NLE Choppa Hold Nothing Back On “FNBM”

TDE’s Ray Vaughn is doing everything but dropping an album at this point. Outside two EPs, the Long Beach, California rapper has no full-length to his name six years in. However, in January, we did get word from the label about which of their signees would be releasing an LP. So far, the ones we can scratch off the list include ScHoolboy Q, Doechii, SiR, Zacari, and Devin Malik. With just about two months to go, there’s still a lot of artists that are supposedly still going to be dropping before year’s end. One of them is in fact Ray Vaughn, so hopefully with this release of “FNBM”, we are closer to finding out more information soon.

This is his second single in just a week-long period with the trending “Everybody Dies” featuring SiR being the previous record. Hilariously, the tonal difference between these two songs is immense. “Everybody Dies” was an excellently written piece about living a fulfilling live and striving for greatness. On “FNBM”, Ray Vaughn is working with NLE Choppa and if you’ve been keeping up with the latter lately, you know what you’re going to be in for. We will let you decipher the title yourself by checking on the link for the track below, but some of these bars may give it away. “Gulp gulp gulp”, three thousand what I call her (Call her) / She don’t forget the balls, bunny b**** a real baller (Real baller) / F*** a baby daddy if you play you get a face shot (Brrt)“.

Ray Vaughn & SiR Keep It Real On “Everybody Dies” Collab

If you haven’t been paying attention to Ray Vaughn’s career trajectory, you may want to consider doing so. The Long Beach, California native is one of TDE’s newest signees and one they see carrying the label moving forward. We can see the vision on that outlook for him because he’s got a lot like. For one, his voice is pretty standout and versatile. It meshes well in both serious and fun applications. Additionally, it comes across as effortlessly and genuinely passionate. Some artists deliveries can come across as forced, but not Ray’s. Additionally, he’s a pretty clever writer already and we can only see him improving more over time. Both of this sought after skills are prominently displayed on this newest Ray Vaughn single, “Everybody Dies”.

He hasn’t announced anything yet, but this one of many records he’s put out in the last seven months. To be exact, this is his eighth solo release of 2024, with a ninth alongside NLE Choppa coming this Friday. We aren’t really sure why we haven’t gotten world on his debut yet, but we hope something comes through soon. We say that because nearly all of these tracks have had something compelling to offer. In the case of “Everybody Dies”, which features fellow label mate SiR, both artists deliver passionate introspective and inspirational lines about living life to its fullest, flaws, and overcoming hurdles.

Doechii’s Superstar Potential Grows With Katy Perry Single “I’M HIS, HE’S MINE”

Doechii has been on the come up for over the last year or so. Even though the TDE roster is stacked, she’s managed to remain as one of their most intriguing prospects and this year, she’s really breaking through. Just a couple of weeks ago, she dropped off her excellent mixtape, Alligator Bites Never Heal. While it’s got some flaws, it showcases that she’s got the stuff to be a true superstar. She possesses a lot of charisma, creativity, solid lyricism, as well as crossover appeal thanks to her ability to sing as well. The latter quality is what’s allowing Doechii to get on the radar of modern pop hitmaker Katy Perry.

Their new collab, “I’M HIS, HE’S MINE”, was previewed at the MTV VMAs this past Wednesday with both of them being able to perform it. If this isn’t another step into becoming one of the biggest rappers in the game, we aren’t sure what is. Overall, the song may annoy you on its first couple of listens and could come across as a generic pop rap radio hit. But it is growing on us a little bit, but that’s mostly thanks to Doechii adding some extra oomph to the single. As for Perry, this represents her third offering from her upcoming seventh album, 143, which is due September 20. Apparently, she’s going to be working with more MCs, including 21 Savage and JID, which isn’t too surprising given how many of them she’s worked with in the past.

Joey Bada$$ & Chloe Have Questions About Love On “TELL ME”

Joey Bada$$ has been a busy guy as of late, but not really in terms of his solo music career. He was on set quite a bit for 50 Cent’s Power franchise. Additionally, he’s been lending his talents to other artists work as far as features go. In the last year he’s been working alongside names such as Rome Streetz, Erick the Architect, Conway the Machine, IDK, and more. That all changes today, though, because Joey Bada$$ is back with “TELL ME”. It follows up on two previous solo releases which are “Fallin’” and “Passports & Suitcases” featuring KayCyy.

Both further develop Joey’s sensual/R&B side, something he’s been honing for the last couple of years. He’s got some real hits when he goes in this direction sonically and lyrically, and “TELL ME” could be the next one to do so. This time around, the New Yorker is working with another new collaborator Chloe Bailey, the sister of Halle Bailey. They have some great chemistry over the pounding lowkey beat, and show it by adlibbing for each other, splitting a verse, and singing the chorus together. Throughout the cut, both are asking their respective partners what kind of situation they’re in romantically. It’s a theme that is sure to resonate with all of the hopeless romantics out there and we are vibing with it as well. Hear why below.

Lola Brooke & Jeremih Know Who They Want By Their Side On Sensual “No One Else”

Lola Brooke is one of the artists in who New York who can really do it all. Based on her fairly small catalog, you can already tell that she doesn’t like to pigeonhole herself to one lane. She can bob and weave in between different subgenres and eras of hip-hop, as well as R&B. Furthermore, Lola is also great at switching up her tone. She’ll dish out brash lyrics but can turn right around and get more vulnerable or sensual. This weekend, that’s what she’s bringing to the table. “No One Else”, shows how Lola Brooke will act if she finds the right man for her.

Acting as the man on pursuit is R&B mainstay Jeremih, giving this contemporary/90’s R&B homage some extra credentials. If you’re wondering what Brooke will do once she lets the right person in, she’s here to explain that. “I always get what I want when I go put that s*** on / He never tell me I’m wrong when he see me in a thong (Uh)“. In a press release for this “No One Else”, Lola explains it a bit further. “With No One Else, you hear more of Lola, the lover girl. We all have feelings, and your girl is in a soft girl mood that you will hear more about with this track and maybe a few more”. More you say? Sign us up because this is a banger.

Rich The Kid Grabs Rob49 For Extended Version Of “New Chanel Freestyle” Off His Recent Album

During the fairly stacked month of July, Rich The Kid put out his fourth full-length offering, Life’s A Gamble. There was a fair amount of hype behind the release, outside of it being his first solo work in four years. Perhaps the biggest reason is because of Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign’s involvement over the entire album. The VULTURES creators were credited as executive producers, which is always a benefit. Both have great ears for beats, and they didn’t run of out taste for the Georgia native. One of the best beats Rich The Kid selected was for “New Chanel Freestyle”.

Sure, the track only clocks in at 1:26, but SkipOnDaBeat was really in his bag with this one. The bass, kick drums, and 808s are mean mug worthy and it has an overall intimidating presence when it kicks in. After Rich’s verse ends, it certainly sounds as if there could’ve been another verse. Well, he’s doing exactly that this weekend, but it’s not coming from him. Instead, he brings on Rob49 to tie things together. See how the Louisiana native performs with the audio link below.
