Childish Gambino Used His Latest ‘Swarm’ Teaser To Preview New Music, A Ni’Jah And Kirby Collab Called ‘Sticky’

Childish Gambino, aka Donald Glover, dropped the first glimpse of his new feature on “Sticky,” through the trailer for the upcoming Amazon Prime series, Swarm. The track is a collaboration with Kirby and Ni’Jah and gives off a spooky and psychedelic feel — fitting for the tone of the show.

“Sticky-icky / Somebody’s watching, so watch your back / Don’t look back, look at the mess you’ve made,” the song’s clip says.

Glover, who created the series alongside Janine Nabers, based the premise around a woman who is obsessed with a pop star. It stars Dominique Fishback, Chlöe Bailey, and Damson Idris.

“We just thought it’d be fun to make a post-truth Piano Teacher mixed with The King Of Comedy,” he told Vanity Fair earlier this year, naming films that influenced the project. “Me and my brother Stephen were talking about finding someone like Isabelle Huppert, as far as risk-takers in performances.”

“A lot of people did it out of the kindness of their hearts and they did a really great job,” Glover added. “Dom, Damson, Chloe. I was really blown away at how hard they worked on the tone, ’cause it’s a strange one.”

Childish Gambino Shares Snippet For New Music In “Swarm” Teaser

Childish Gambino has previewed a snippet of an unreleased track titled, “Sticky.” The song is featured in a teaser for Donald Glover’s upcoming Amazon series, Swarm. “Original music from the new series “Swarm” by Ni’Jah with Kirby featuring Childish Gambino,” a description for the trailer reads.

“Sticky-icky/ Somebody’s watching, so watch your back/ Don’t look back, look at the mess you’ve made,” Gambino sings on the track. Glover hasn’t released any new solo material since 2020’s 3.15.20 but has collaborated with several artists in the last three years. They include Thundercat, Steve Lacy, Latto, Lil Wayne, and more.

In total, Amazon shared two new teasers for the highly-anticipated show. The cast features Dominique Fishback, Chloe Bailey, and Damson Idris. The story follows a young woman who’s obsessed with a fictional pop star. Speaking with Variety back in January, Glover cited Isabelle Huppert’s iconic performance in The Piano Teacher as an inspiration. “We just thought it’d be fun to make a post-truth Piano Teacher mixed with The King of Comedy,” he told the outlet. “Me and my brother Stephen were talking about finding someone like Isabelle Huppert, as far as risk-takers in performances. A lot of people did it out of the kindness of their hearts and they did a really great job. Dom, Damson, Chloe. I was really blown away at how hard they worked on the tone, ’cause it’s a strange one.”

Janine Nabers, who serves as showrunner and co-creator to Glover, recently admitted that the series will either make viewers “angry or really inspired.” “We know that the show is propulsive,” she warned at the South by Southwest Film & Television Festival. She continued: “We know that it’s going to evoke a lot of conversation. We know that people are going to have a lot of responses and may be angry or really inspired. So I just want you guys to know that if you have any feelings after watching this, and if you really want to tweet about it, then tweet at Donald.”

Watch The Trailer For Donald Glover’s New Series “Swarm”

Donald Glover’s come a long way since his days on Community. His musical ventures have been a massive success that has turned him into one of the most celebrated artists today. However, it’s his ventures in film and television that have turned him into an undeniable force in pop culture. Atlanta had us glued to our television screens weekly for four excellent seasons. Unfortunately, his hit television program came to an end in 2022.

The brilliance of Atlanta was that it captured the realities of the city for aspiring artists. Glover evidently understood this hustle well as an artist himself. However, he recently announced Swarm, which he described as a sister series to Atlanta that follows the story of an obsessed fan who follows their favorite artist across the country. Fans have been anticipating the next move from Glover, which finally received an official trailer this week.

Watch The Trailer For “Swarm” Co-Created By Donald Glover

Following the debut of a brief teaser two weeks ago, Prime Video formally shared the official trailer for Swarm this morning. The clip follows Dre as she dives deeper into her fandom of a music star that bears many similarities to Beyoncé. “She is not like everybody else,” the narrator says in the trailer. “She knows what we’re thinking and she gives it a name. She’s a goddess.” Elsewhere, they describe Dre as being a “killer bee” that’s “part of a swarm.” The trailer showcases glimpses of Dre’s cross-country trek to see her favorite artist in concert.

Swarm is co-created by Donald Glover and Janine Nabers, who serves as the showrunner on the series and served as a writer on Atlanta. The show boasts an impeccable cast including Dominique Fishback as Dre, Chloe Bailey as her sister, Marissa, and Snowfall star Damson Idris as Marissa’s boyfriend. Additionally, the show will include cameos from Rickey Thompson, Paris Jackson, Rory Culkin, Byron Bowers, and Kiersey Clemons. However, there roles have yet to be disclosed publicly. Not to mention that Malia Obama also wrote on the show. Swarm drops in its entirety on March 17th on Prime Video. Check the trailer above.

Donald Glover’s ‘Swarm’ Trailer Looks Like A Cautionary Tale About Beyhive-Style Fandom

Atlanta ended only last year, but Donald Glover is already back with a new show. Created by Janine Nabers and Glover, Swarm follows Dre (played by Dominique Fishback), a fan of the world’s biggest pop star — who definitely isn’t Beyoncé — and how her obsession takes a dark turn.

You can watch the stressful trailer above.

“We just thought it’d be fun to make a post-truth Piano Teacher mixed with The King of Comedy,” Glover told Vanity Fair about Swarm, referring to the 2001 Michaele Haneke and 1982 Martin Scorsese movies, respectfully. Nabors added that “we were really interested in creating an anti-hero story,” like the ones seen on Mad Men and Breaking Bad, but “through the lens of a Black, modern-day woman.”

Glover compared Fishback to Isabelle Huppert, “as far [as] risk-takers in performances.” While shooting the final scene in the pilot, “every single person stopped what they were doing and gave Dom a standing ovation for three minutes,” Nabors said. “I’ve been doing TV for a long time and I’ve never seen that. That was the moment that Donald and I looked at each other and we were like, all right — we got something right.”

Swarm premieres on Amazon Prime Video on March 17.

Donald Glover Delivers Teaser For BeyHive-Inspired Series “Swarm”

Fandom is a topic that can create fear in some, but Donald Glover is capitalizing on the craze. The entertainment industry often takes advantage of its die-hard fans—or “Stans,” thanks to Eminem. In music, artists have fanbases with their own names, and often, they will battle each other over who is the best. It’s simple to search through social media to find an obsessed fan who takes things too far. In Swarm, Glover dramatizes an often frightening concept.

Today (February 10), a sneak peek into Swarm has been released. The film stars the likes of Chlöe, Damson Idris, and Dominique Fishback, and the teaser hints at this being a captivating thriller. “We just thought it’d be fun to make a post-truth Piano Teacher mixed with The King of Comedy,” Glover shared with Vanity Fair. This referenced Michael Haneke’s 2001 drama and Martin Scorsese’s 1982 classic.

Fishback’s character Dre is a young woman who becomes obsessed with a certain superstar. Chlöe plays her sister, while Idris portrays her boyfriend. Glover admitted that initially, he had Fishback in mind for Chlöe’s role, but the actress asked for an opportunity to stretch herself. The request was granted, the rest is history.

Glover reunited with Atlanta writer and producer Janine Nabers for Swarm, and she detailed the evolution of the creative direction. “We were really interested in creating an antihero story,” said Nabers. “When we shot the last scene of the pilot, every single person stopped what they were doing and gave [Fishback] a standing ovation for three minutes. I’ve been doing TV for a long time and I’ve never seen that. That was the moment that Donald and I looked at each other and we were like, ‘All right—we got something right.’”

Meanwhile, when Glover is expanding his television and film careers, he’s in the studio working on new music. It was once thought that Childish Gambino was gone for good, but Glover has had a change of heart. He recently shared that he has been recording, and fans are eager to hear what he has in store. Watch the teaser for Swarm above, and let us know if you’re excited about this series. It will air on Prime Video this year.

Donald Glover’s Next Show Is Inspired By Beyoncé, The Beyhive, And The Dark Side Of Standom

Now that Atlanta is all wrapped up, Donald Glover is setting his sights on another aspect of the recording industry: The dark side of standom. According to Vanity Fair, Glover’s next television project, Swarm, is inspired by Beyoncé and her infamous Beyhive.

The Hive has been one of the most notorious and feared fan groups in music for some time; critics and casuals alike must be wary of insulting Queen Bey (even unintentionally), lest they incur the wrath of her thousands of defensive, chronically-online stans. Not even Nicole Curran, the wife of the Golden State Warriors co-owner, was safe when she got a little too close to Jay-Z for comfort.

Glover’s new project will scrutinize stan culture through the story of Dre (portrayed by Dominique Fishback), whose obsession with a pop star (who is apparently very inspired by Beyoncé) takes her to some dark places, judging from the screenshots provided by Vanity Fair. Ironically, Dre’s sister will be played by Chloe Bailey — who is best known as one-half of sister duo Chloe X Halle and signed to Beyonce’s label, Parkwood. Meanwhile, Dre’s love interest will be played by Damson Idris, of Snowfall fame.

The show will be executive produced by Atlanta writer Janine Nabors and will stream on Amazon Prime Video.

Donald Glover Teases a Childish Gambino Comeback at the Golden Globes

Childish Gambino

Words by: Brandon Simmons

The 2023 Golden Globe Awards were last night; you know what everyone is talking about: fashion!  At every award show, besides who the winners are, people are tuned in to see who is wearing what.  And per usual, there were many looks we loved and a couple of looks we could do without.  One man, in particular, caught everyone’s attention with his comfortable ensemble.

Donald Glover, aka Childish Gambino, showed up to the Golden Globes in silk pajamas.  When explaining his outfit before the show, the Atlanta producer wanted to be comfortable enough to sit in a chair for three hours.  A sharp-shouldered jack over cream silk pajamas is what Yves Saint Laurent came up with for Glover.  Another thing that stood out about Glover was his mustache!  He is sporting it pretty thick these days.

The Feels Like Summer rapper was at the 80th Annual prestigious awards show hoping to win Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series for Atlanta.  Unfortunately, he didn’t get the trophy Jeremy Allen White won for his role as Carmy in The Bear.

Since Atlanta came out, Donald Glover has taken a break from Childish Gambino.  Can you blame him?  The TV series has been regarded as one of the best shows of this generation!  Atlanta has won Golden Globes, NAACP Image Awards, EMMY Awards, and the Writer’s Guild of America Awards.  Although Donald Glover has been successful, Childish Gambino isn’t going away.  While talking with Laverne Cox, she asked him about his music career, to which he responded that he is making music and still has a thing for it.

“I’m making music right now.  I love it.  I’m actually in the studio.  I’ve been bringing people in, like secret people, working on little things.  I’ve been just making it for fun right now.  But soon something will happen.  I promise.”

Who knows, maybe we’ll hear something from him in 2023!

It Turns Out Donald Glover Won’t Be Retiring Childish Gambino After All — And New Music Is On The Way

For years, Donald Glover worked to keep his music work distinct from his other endeavors thanks to the Childish Gambino persona. However, now that he’s more successful in both worlds than probably even he dreamed, the line has become blurred and he’s hinted at retiring the internet-generated name, even going as far as having a farewell show in Los Angeles a few years ago. While he’s since hinted at resurrecting the name, this week, he gave the first outright confirmation that Childish Gambino is coming back.

While on the red carpet at the Golden Globe Awards last night (Tuesday, January 10), Glover told E! News’ correspondent Laverne Cox, “I’m making music right now, I love it. I’m actually working, I’m in the studio. I’ve been bringing people in, like secret people, working on little things. But I just been, you know, making it for fun right now. But soon something will happen, I promise. Something will happen.” Regarding the past comments he’d made about retiring his alter ego, he admitted, “You don’t have to worry about that … He’ll be back.”

It’s likely that he’s backtracking now due to an abundance of free time now that his critically acclaimed show Atlanta has come to an end. And while he’s likely still got plenty to do while developing projects like a Mr. And Mrs. Smith series and playing Hypno Hustler in a Spider-Man spinoff, it’s clear the music bug has bitten him all over again. Hopefully, we’ll see what he’s been working on soon enough.
