Doja Cat Explained How ‘Scarlet’ Was Written Over The Course Of Two Periods, Making One Half ‘Very Different’ From The Other

Doja Cat‘s new album Scarlet is finally weeks away from its release, after an album cover change and the singles “Attention,” “Paint The Town Red,” and “Demons.”

On Wednesday (September 6), the Victoria’s Secret World Tour had its launch event where stars hung out on the Pink Carpet. Doja revealed more about Scarlet in an interview with Entertainment Tonight at the event.

“One thing that I wanted to mention was that I have music that came out — these three songs came out, these were the first three songs I made during the period that I was making music,” she said. “And then there’s a second half where I went to Malibu and I made all this music in ten days. That half is very different from the first half.”

When the interview asked it was different, Doja said, “I can’t tell you. But I am excited that it’s coming out soon. It’s two periods.”

This eclecticism in the album makes sense after she previously called the album rap, rave-influenced, R&B, and punk. “This new album is more introspective, but I’m not leaning so hard into that to where it becomes boring,” she said last month.

Scarlet is out 9/22 via RCA. Find more information here.

Doja Cat Explained The Story Behind Her Neck Brace Photo That Caused Some Concern

Yesterday (September 7), Doja Cat shared a photo of herself wearing a hearty neck brace. She captioned the post, “i’m fine my neck is fine,” but nonetheless, there was still some concern over what possibly happened to Doja. Now, she has cleared the air, offering some background on the photo and insisting that she really isn’t hurt.

Doja was asked about the brace during a red-carpet interview at the Victoria’s Secret World Tour fashion show yesterday (September 6) and she explained, “So my friend here — my date, my lovely date — got whiplash, and he took… he takes it off sometimes, and so I just stole it from him.” She went on to note, “I’m literally fine, completely fine. My neck is great.”

Indeed, Doja’s Instagram post of photos from the event includes one photo of her date wearing the neck brace.

Meanwhile, Doja recently called out some of her fans, writing, “people don’t wanna accept im dissing them so they try to pin it on cardi nicki and meg and every other female rapper. I don’t diss rappers I diss critics. Stay bored. Stay reaching. […] TO BE 100% CLEAR because I know you all need me to talk REEEEEAL SLOOOOOW for you; I’m not dissing anyone but the f*ckin phonies in my comment sections.”

Doja Cat Shares Another Interesting Image To Her Instagram

The ever-interesting series of social media posts for Doja Cat continues with this latest Instagram upload. The vibrant singer and rapper is just weeks away from releasing her highly-awaited fourth studio album, Scarlet. The new LP will be available on streaming platforms on Friday, September 22. Doja has already unleashed supposedly three new singles ahead of the drop date. “Attention,” “Paint The Town Red,” and most recently, “Demons,” are all gaining a lot of buzz.

On top her of music splitting a lot of peoples’ opinions, her social media presence is also causing a divide. Near the end of August, she displayed some very outlandish photos. One of her posts included a ton of different images ranging from a dog with an extended neck, to a photoshopped picture of her with spiders, and more. Additionally, she posted her version of a thirst trap with her forehead appearing larger than usual with the camera zoom she used. There are a lot of people saying she is essentially going off the deep end, but she clearly does not care about the outside noise.

Doja Cart’s latest Instagram pic is sure to trigger a whole lot more people. She captioned this post simply, “shid post.” That is a translation for sh**post, which is a term used to describe a photo that contributes nothing of importance, derails discussion, or is an attempt to spam people with memes. Sort of like what she did with the collage aforementioned, this features one picture. Doja Cat is posing in different ways, with a few outfits, and they are all next to each other with a white background. We will have to wait and see if more people continue to unfollow her after this.

Doja Cat Disses ‘Critics’ And Not ‘People I’m Inspired By’ Like Cardi B, Nicki Minaj, And Megan Thee Stallion

Things aren’t that great between Doja Cat and her fans right now. Well, some of them: After she recently lost hundreds of thousands of social media followers after a rant against her fans, she wrote, “Seeing all these people unfollow me makes me feel like I’ve defeated a large beast that’s been holding me down for so long. And it feels like I can reconnect with the people who really matter and love me for who I am and not for who I was. I feel free.”

Now, the saga continues. There are apparently some folks out there who thinks Doja disses other rappers. Doja set the record straight on that, insisting that it’s just “the f*ckin phonies in my comment sections” she’s going after.

In a series of now-deleted Instagram Story posts shared today (September 1), she wrote:

“people don’t wanna accept im dissing them so they try to pin it on cardi nicki and meg and every other female rapper. I don’t diss rappers I diss critics. Stay bored. Stay reaching.

i don’t diss people i’m inspired by i don’t diss people i look up to. i don’t diss people who don’t attack and harass me every day. YALL do. SHE doesn’t. THEY dont. Y’all are the problem.

TO BE 100% CLEAR because I know you all need me to talk REEEEEAL SLOOOOOW for you; I’m not dissing anyone but the f*ckin phonies in my comment sections.”

Doja Cat And Lil Wayne Headline First Wave Of VMA Performers

September has officially arrived which means the MTV Video Music Awards are right around the corner. Often shortened to the VMAs, the show will be broadcast live from the Prudential Center in New Jersey on Tuesday, September 12. While the nominations made a stir when they were first announced earlier this year, what fans were really craving was news on who would be performing. Now, MTV has revealed a selection of those set to take the stage and they didn’t disappoint.

The biggest name of the bunch is Doja Cat. The rapper just released her new single “Demons,” the third from her upcoming album Scarlet. The song’s artwork and video caused quite a stir with fans for its demonic imagery. Those who are familiar with Doja Cat are expecting her to double down on that controversy with her performance. The other biggest name is Lil Wayne. After going on a feature run earlier this year the rapper just released his new single “Kat Food.” Both artists have a history with the VMAs with Wayne winning one and Doja multiple awards at the ceremony.

Even beyond those headliners the list of performers is impressive. K-Pop is well represented with TOMORROW x TOGETHER who just headlined Lollapalooza and Stray Kids, who dropped a number one album earlier this year both performing. Two of the biggest stars in Latin music Karol G and Anitta will also both be taking the stage. Karol G is fresh off the release of two new projects earlier this year.

Elsewhere in the lineup is Demi Lovato who is in the process of remaking many of her old pop songs with a rock twist. Maneskin, the Italian rock band who broke through in the US after winning Eurovision. And Kelsey Ballerini, the country star who scored a hit with last year’s “IF YOU GO DOWN.” What do you think of the first wave of performers confirmed for the VMAs? Let us know in the comment section below.

Doja Cat Spooks The Hell Out Of Christina Ricci In Her Terrifying New ‘Demons’ Video

We are just weeks away from Doja Cat’s upcoming fourth studio album, Scarlet. Though this hasn’t been the smoothest album rollout for Doja, Scarlet looks to be one of the more interesting releases of the year — especially as we hear Doja experiment with a variety of sounds. On her latest song, “Demons,” we get to hear her tap into her rock bag.

“Demons” features Doja positioning herself as one of the best in the game, as she dismisses controversies and criticisms.

“How my demons look / Now that my pockets full / How my demons look / Now that you b*tches shook,” she raps, approaching the chorus softly, then leaning into a scream, showing off her rock chops.

In the accompanying visual, Doja is seen in the bedroom of Christina Ricci, crawling on the ceilings, scaring the daylight out of her. Ricci attempts to make an escape, but can’t outrun Doja.

None of the songs Doja has released from Scarlet thus far have sounded the same. In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Doja described her upcoming effort as a “fun canvas” for her to experiment with her sounds.

“This new album is more introspective, but I’m not leaning so hard into that to where it becomes boring,” Doja says. “So I want to give stories and bops. It’s a nice mixture of both.”

You can listen to “Demons” above.

Scarlet is out 9/22 via RCA. Find more information here.
