Doja Cat‘s new album Scarlet is almost here, and hers was one of the most highly anticipated performances of the 2023 MTV VMAs, especially after her sexy spiderweb look on the pink carpet.

It’s impossible to prepare for Doja. She performed most of her Scarlet single “Attention” in the audience all dressed up as a businesswoman, followed by creepy dancers painted in all red and looking quite devilish. On the stage, she went straight into the viral, infectious “Paint The Town Red,” which just recently became the first rap song of the year to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Then, she smoothly transitioned into the cheeky “Demons.” During her flow, she unbuttoned her shirt as papers flew all around the stage. She finished the song with a big smile, knowing she owned the room.

About Scarlet, she recently said, “One thing that I wanted to mention was that I have music that came out — these three songs came out, these were the first three songs I made during the period that I was making music,” she said. “And then there’s a second half where I went to Malibu and I made all this music in ten days. That half is very different from the first half.”

The MTV VMAs are tonight and one of the most anticipated moments is Doja Cat’s performance. The star is still hyping up her forthcoming album Scarlet, whose infectious single “Paint The Town Red” became the first rap song of the year to take the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

The “Demons” singer posted her revealing pink carpet look on Instagram. She’s draped in a spiderweb dress that lets everything hang out — no bra, no pasties. She’s also covered in glitter, truly glowing. She also shows off her tattoos this way, as well as eye-catching jewelry that climbs from her fingers up her wrist.

The look goes with the Scarlet album cover, which depicts two spiders. About the record, Doja said in an interview a few days ago, “One thing that I wanted to mention was that I have music that came out — these three songs came out, these were the first three songs I made during the period that I was making music,” she said. “And then there’s a second half where I went to Malibu and I made all this music in ten days. That half is very different from the first half.”

Dating rumors are pretty commonplace in hip-hop. A new one popped up today, courtesy of the Daily Mail in the UK, but it might be one to take with a grain of salt. According to the Mail, Doja Cat met up with fellow rapper Quavo for a dinner date at Carbone in New York on Monday (September 11). The restaurant’s known for being a celebrity hotspot, so it’s reasonable that they both ate there. Are they “dating,” though?

It’s tough to say that they were on a “date,” per se. For one thing, Doja’s been romantically tied recently to social media personality Jeffrey Cyrus (aka J.Cyrus). Doja seemed serious enough about the seeming relationship to block fans who criticized her over it, although she had yet to comment on it publicly. Plus, aside from both being rappers, it doesn’t seem like Quavo and Doja actually have all that much in common.

The one tenuous connection they do share would also seem to preclude a romantic connection. In 2021, Quavo had a very public and messy breakup with rapper Saweetie, who had collaborated with Doja Cat on the single “Best Friend” earlier that year. Doja dating Quavo seems like a huge violation of girl code, although I freely admit I am no expert (Saweetie has seemingly moved on since, and was most recently linked with Compton rapper YG).

So is Doja dating Quavo? It seems unlikely but the jury’s out. On one hand, the Mail has a horrible track record with this sort of stuff. On the other, we live in a world where Avril Lavigne is spending significant time with Tyga. Anything is possible.

Doja Cat Drops “Scarlet” Tracklist, Fans React

The final piece to the puzzle for Doja Cat’s fourth studio album, Scarlet, is finally here. The 27-year-old recording artist has just given her fans and followers the official tracklist for the project. This may or may not be a surprise for some people, but what you will notice is that there are no features anywhere. Some fans are guessing that there will be hidden features on here, so we will have to wait to hear the album. However, some are saying there will be none, period. Listening day will tell us all we need to know, but for now, here is what we know.

The tracklist stands at 15 songs, which is usually a smart recipe. Many music fans like to say that the magic number for great albums is right around 13-15 tracks long, so we will see if Scarlet can live up to that metric. Additionally, you will see that three familiar song titles land on the LP. Those of course are the three lead singles Doja has released. “Attention,” “Paint The Town Red,” and “Demons,” all make the final cut, which was to be expected.

Of course, this exciting news going to draw some buzz from fans. A lot of people are chiming on the set of songs and some of the comments are just hilarious. One person says, “I want track 3 played at my wedding. Idk what it sounds like but I know I want it.” That third song is titled, “Wet Vag**a,” for those who are wondering. Another person says, “Track 3 is literally me when u post 😍” Quite a few people are upset that various leaked tracks did not make the final product and are hoping there is a deluxe version. Doja Cat Is Proudly Feature-Free On The ‘Scarlet’ Tracklist, Which She Just Shared

Doja Cat’s Scarlet is proving to be the biggest moment in hip-hop in 2023: “Paint The Town Red” just reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, making it the year’s first rap song to top the chart. Now Doja continues to peel back the curtain on her upcoming album Scarlet by unveiling the tracklist today (September 12).

She shared the 15-song tracklist on social media, and notably, she’s the only artist on the project. Doja proudly proclaims in the post’s caption, “no features.”

Doja recently explained how not all of Scarlet sounds like the songs fans have heard so far, saying, “One thing that I wanted to mention was that I have music that came out — these three songs came out, these were the first three songs I made during the period that I was making music,” she said. “And then there’s a second half where I went to Malibu and I made all this music in ten days. This just might be Doja Cat’s year once again. Even with other massive artists such as Travis Scott finally dropping Utopia after five years and Drake coming back with For All The Dogs, Doja might top them all. The 27-year-old rapper and singer is turning people’s heads in a good and bad way with her image and musical shift, which is no secret now. But, to add on to all of the attention she is receiving, she is now going to have even more eyes and ears on her.

After over a year of rap music hitting quite a lull in terms of its Billboard Hot 100 appeal, Doja Cat is the one to bring back more fans to mainstream hip-hop. The “Say So” artist just ended the year-plus drought of a rap song peaking at number one since August 2022. This information comes courtesy of Billboard themselves and it is quite surprising it has been this long. Especially, with Scott’s Utopia containing massive hits like “FE!N” with Playboi Carti and “MELTDOWN” with Drake.

Could Doja Cat Continue To Dominate The Charts?

But, forget all of that, Doja’s “Paint The Town Red” is the track to conquer this feat. The song is already receiving lots of praise and plays. With over 181 million streams on Spotify and it being the lead single to her long-awaited album, Scarlet, the hype is real. Nonetheless, Doja deserves tons of credit because this song possesses a great, relatable message. It talks about ignoring all of the people who are disliking the person you are turning into because they were comfortable with you being more “normal.” But, this might not be the last time she peaks at number one in 2023.

Doja Cat Has Finally Broken Rap’s Hot 100 No. 1 Drought With ‘Paint The Town Red’

After much fuss was made about the dearth of rap No. 1s on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2023, the first rap song of the year has topped the chart, breaking the drought at 54 weeks. Best of all, the song to finally bring hip-hop back to the mountaintop came from an artist who has gone to extreme lengths in the fight for her hip-hop credibility: Doja Cat.

Her Dionne Warwick-sampling single “Paint The Town Red” — which saw her rapping more than singing for the first time since her debut album in 2018 — has topped this week’s Hot 100 chart, giving her her second No. 1 after “Say So” reached No. 1 on the chart dated May 16, 2020 (thanks in large part to a guest spot from Nicki Minaj, giving Nicki her first-ever No. 1 as well, and an NSFW promise Doja later reneged on). Interestingly, the last rap song to go No. 1 was Nicki Minaj’s “Super Freaky Girl” on the chart dated August 22, 2022.

In the year leading up to the rollout for her upcoming fourth studio album, Scarlet, Doja joked that her new album would be entirely rap, then entirely R&B, then that it would be punk or inspired by rave culture. She ultimately attributed all these changes of heart to ADHD, but she’s also been a bit of a stylistic chameleon all along, even going as far as deriding her older albums for being more marketable and not as authentic to who she is.

Considering she came up under the tutelage of Project Blowed vets like Verbs in Los Angeles, hip-hop is part of her DNA — and clearly the part she’s most passionate about expressing right now. It looks like that passion is paying off.

Her bright red footwear stands out above all else, though we also quickly took note of her sassy middle finger, pastel pink tank top, and lace shorts. “Me when the town ain’t painted red,” one user quipped in the comments.

If you couldn’t tell by the lyrics on Doja Cat’s “Paint The Town Red,” she’s been feeling unapologetically herself lately. The California native is freely expressing herself through style, music, and social media. Obviously, not everyone is in favour of her most recent rebrand. Still, she doesn’t seem to care about how others perceive her. One of the genre-bending artist’s most recent outings was on Wednesday (September 6) evening, when she attended the Victoria’s Secret World Tour runway show alongside other starlets like Emily Ratajkowski, Naomi Campbell, and Candice Swanepoel.

Doja’s makeup for the event was unconventional, but she pulled it off well. The Planet Her hitmaker was styled in an all-black dress for the evening, bringing more attention to her buzzed, blonde head and icy blue eyeshadow. While she looks as confident as ever in all the photos we’ve seen, the entertainer has since made it clear that she wasn’t a fan of the gown for a multitude of reasons. “It’s [wild] when [you] got a dress on and your whole vagina is out the whole night and the traps on the dress pull [your] t*ts all the way down to your knees,” Doja ranted on a since-deleted IG Story shared earlier this week.
