T-Boz Compares Left Eye To Kanye West In New TLC Documentary

In a new documentary, Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins opens up about her former group mate, Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes. She shared that she believes if Lisa Left Eye were alive today, she’d be the “female Kanye.” The documentary, titled TLC Forever, features accounts from T-Boz and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas about their experience being part of the sensational group. The Lifetime feature documentary premiered today.

“She’d be the female Kanye West,” T-Boz claims. “I said that because Lisa was always just saying things,” she explained, “If she had Twitter fingers, she’d be all over the place and have something to say about everything and not care. She’d be making all of the shocking comments.” She continued, “And Kanye was the only comparison I could think of about what my sister would be like now.”

T-Boz Says Left Eye Would Be “All Over The Place”

Left Eye was pronounced dead in 2002 at age 30, following a severe car crash in Honduras. Chilli discussed the artist’s passing during promotion for the documentary with US weekly. “I remember I didn’t listen to the radio for a long time ‘cause I didn’t wanna hear reports about her,” she described. “We didn’t want people coming up, saying, ‘Oh, I’m so sorry,’” Chilli continued, “and I know that they meant well, but when you’re in pain, you just don’t wanna hear any of that. It took me a long time to refer to her in the past [tense], because I couldn’t believe it. And I think it has so much to do with, when you’re young like that, you think you’re invincible.”

T-Boz also discussed having sickle cell anemia in the documentary, as well as her 2010 surgery to remove a benign brain tumor. She explained, “Maturing over the years and realizing how many things I have triumphed over makes you start reminiscing, like, dang, I got through that and that?” The artist added, “I just thought I might as well tell people so they’ll understand, and hopefully it will help someone.”

Chance The Rapper Praises 2Pac “Dear Mama” Documentary

Tupac’s story has been explored in various facets. Of course, much of his music was auto-biographical but he never penned an autobiography himself. Instead, we’ve trusted authors and filmmakers to take the information of his life available and transform it into a masterpiece, whether in the form of books or film. However, FX’s Dear Mama documentary is without a doubt an incredible glimpse into the relationship between 2Pac and his mother, Afeni Shakur. According to Chance The Rapper, it could take the cake for the best documentary he’s seen.

The Chicago-born rapper took to Twitter to share his thoughts on the documentary and it came with high praise. “Did y’all watch the Tupac & Afeni Shakur documentary series yet?” he wrote on Twitter. “What’s y’all honest thoughts? Cause I would say without exaggeration or hyperbole it’s probably the best documentary I’ve ever seen.” Like many fans of ‘Pac around the world, Chance The Rapper undoubtedly appreciates the in-depth look into the late rapper’s relationship with his mother and how it inevitably influenced his outlook of the world.

FX’s “Dear Mama” Docuseries Gains Praise

Chance certainly isn’t the only person who fell in love with the five-part docuseries on Tupac and Afeni Shakur. The show’s gained plenty of praise since the first episode dropped. Rotten Tomatoes revealed that the show had a 100% rating on their website. Ahead of the show’s debut, 2Pac’s manager, Leila Steinberg, described Dear Mama as “incredible.” “Part of [Alan] wanting to really do this piece was about healing, was about honesty, was about all of us looking at what happened. And, so I’m just saying this to say, he’s done an incredible piece,” Steinberg said.

Nick Grad, president of FX Entertainment, explained the importance of the show. Describing the show as a “definitive piece,” he detailed how Allen’s point-of-view helped take a deeper look into ‘Pac’s upbringing. “Allen’s examination of Tupac viewed through the prism of his mother Afeni is a fascinating take that really gets beneath the education and experience that shaped his life and inspired him to become one of the greatest artists ever,” he said. Britney Spears Dances Her Troubles Away Amid Worrying Reports

Britney Spears is dancing away the drama again. The pop icon recently regained her freedom from a 13-year conservatorship, and she has been somewhat absent from the industry ever since. However, the singer said she remains committed to recording music. “She has talked about recording again and has gotten plenty of offers, some of which she’s turned down,” said a source close to Britney. “But it’s all about timing and picking the right projects.” Touring, however, might be a different story, as she says she experienced trauma from touring. However, that is not the only thing that she experiences trauma from.

Several troubling reports have come out of celebrity gossip sites like TMZ, who reported that Britney allegedly has a “fascination” with knives. The icon reportedly sleeps with one under her bed in case her family tries to have her involuntarily committed again. The information was revealed in a new documentary produced by TMZ. Despite the ongoing media attention and troubling reports, the pop star appears wholly unaffected. On the same day the new documentary aired, she shared a revealing Instagram video. In the video, Spears can be seen wearing a tiny red bikini and knee-high black leather boots, energetically dancing and gyrating around. She later changed into pink lace bottoms and a matching crop top, showcasing her dance moves and flowing blonde hair.

Apparently, Britney Spears’ marriage is also in trouble. TMZ cites numerous “reliable insiders” that say the union is on the rocks. According to them, Britney Spears’ relationship with her husband, Sam Asghari, is experiencing significant difficulties. Reports suggest that physical altercations between Britney and Sam have occurred. These have been accompanied by frequent intense arguments. The situation has allegedly escalated to the point where security personnel have had to intervene. It is worth noting, however, that TMZ has produced a documentary that was broadcast around the time of these reports. The piece delved into Britney’s life after the conservatorship. As such, it makes sense that these headlines would be making the rounds.

Sam Asghari took to social media to refute the reports coming out of TMZ and other gossip sites. In anticipation of the TV special, Sam strongly criticized the program as “disgusting.” In a video shared on his Instagram Sunday night, Sam expressed his dismay. He called out the individuals who were part of Britney’s life when she lacked a voice, as they proceed to narrate her story as if it were their own. “All of a sudden — after 15 years when she’s free after all those gaslighting,” Sam said. “All those things that went down — now you’re going to put her under a microscope and tell her story?” What do you think of the latest reports on Britney? Wayno Says Kanye West’s “Jeen-Yuhs” Documentary Was Inaccurate

Former Roc-A-Fella Records A&R Wayno says that Kanye West’s jeen-yuhs documentary was littered with inaccuracies. Wayno explained his issues with the documentary during a recent interview on Homegrown Radio. Wayno discussed a scene during which Ye plays “All Falls Down” to several disinterested individuals at the Roc-A-Fella offices.

“It was not like that bro, because first of all, when I came around — I’m talking about being really, really, inside of Roc-A-Falla [2002] — Kanye was already producing. When I had met him, he had just got a tattoo of all the songs he produced on his arm,” he began

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA – FEBRUARY 11: (L-R) Ye, J. Ivy, and Ibn Jasper attend the jeen-yuhs experience and special screening celebrating Netflix’s new documentary, “jeen-yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy” at Mother Wolf on February 11, 2022 in Los Angeles, California. (Photo by Johnny Nunez/Getty Images for Netflix)

Wayno further recalled: “I walked up to him like ‘Yo you Kanye?’ and he like ‘Yeah, I rap too,’ — he rapped for me. And, he just rapped for like eight minutes. He would do the same routine for everyone he met. The video that they show of him coming to the office and doing that. That wasn’t the first time he did that. In 2002, walking into somewhere with a camera is like a big thing.”

“Now, Chaka Pilgrim was the head of marketing at Roc-A-Fella — to this day she still work with Jay, Beyoncé, all of them. He bust in her office with all the cameras out. He ain’t tell nobody he about to do this or nothing. Bro, mind you it’s not the first time we heard ‘All Falls Down.’ We been heard ‘All Falls Down.’ He walks out like ‘yeah they ain’t feeling me,’” he added. “That’s not real.”

Netflix released jeen-yuhs back in early January 2022, on Netflix. It chronicles the early career and rise of Kanye West throughout the 2000s. After its release, Wayno initially criticized it in a post on social media. “How many times can you have a crazy reaction to something you’ve heard 10x it was kind of annoying at that point,” he wrote at the time.

HBO Reveals First Look At Donna Summer Documentary

It’s hard to state just how big disco was at its peak. The Disco Boom of the 1970s fundamentally changed music and culture. Studio 54, the iconic New York club, became a household name on the back of the genre. But Disco was more than just music. It was light and aesthetic, and a complete and total disco “vibe”. However, there was widespread opposition to disco, especially those from the rock and roll community. A DJ famously destroyed a dumpster full of Disco records at a Chicago White Sox game in 1979

Born in Boston, Donna Summer (born LaDonna Gaines), was arguably the face of mainstream Disco music. She lived a fascinating life, including spending nearly a working and performing in Munich. However, she is best known for helping spearhead Disco’s rise in the late 1970s. Her catalog includes four #1 hits and all-time bangers like “I Feel Love” and “Love To Love You Baby”. Summer passed away in 2012 from lung cancer.

HBO Gives First Look At “Love To Love You, Donna Summer”

HBO is now telling the full story of Donna Summer. Love To Love You, Donna Summer will document her life and rise to the throne of Disco. Based on archival footage and interviews with both Summer and people who knew her best, the film will show Summer like never before. Everything from Munich to MTV will be on display.

That includes highlighting the toll fame took on her. The documentary will also delve into Summer’s propensity for secretive behavior. “My approach to singing, I approach it as an actress,” Summer is heard saying, “I don’t approach it as a singer. And it’s really acting. I’m not trying to be me.” The film will also go behind the music, looking at Summer’s struggles with fame and her attempts to balance her career with raising her family. Two of Summer’s children, Brooklyn and Amanda, have followed in her footsteps. Love To Love You, Donna Summer already holds a 71% critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes following its debut at the Berlin Film Festival. You can see Love To Love You, Donna Summer for yourself starting on May 20 on HBO and Max.

Ice Cube Announces Big3 Docuseries

In 2017, Ice Cube announced the formation of Big3. The Big3 is a 3-on-3 basketball league featuring former NBA stars and up-and-coming international players. The league features 12 teams, all helmed by former NBA players. The 2023 season is set to begin in June.

The league has a lot of star power, both on and off the court. With Ice Cube as the founder, former NBA legend Cylde Drexler serves as the commissioner. Players include Mario Chalmers, Rashard Lewis, Serbian 3×3 star Dušan Bulut, and Nick Young. Trilogy, coached by NBA journeyman Stephen Jackson and captained by James White, are the two-time defending champions.

Ice Cube Reveals Docuseries

Ice Cube has announced that fans will now get an in-depth look at the league in a new docuseries. The series will look at the trial and tribulations behind the league, including the obstacles Cube has faced to get the stature that the league has accrued. Furthermore, the series will not shy away from the legal battle the league waged against Qatari investors in 2018. Big3 sued the Qatar-based investment fund for $1.2 billion over claims that the investors were trying to meddle in and influence the league. The series will also highlight the tense relationship that the league has had with the NBA over the years. This has primarily been a result of drawing international players away from the league.

Additionally, the untitled docuseries will follow one team as they battle for a championship. This is a tried-and-tested format, best seen in HBO’s Hard Knocks series about the NFL. In announcing the documentary, Cube revealed why it was the right time to do so. “We have tremendous momentum going into the sixth season, coming off of record ratings and numerous sold out games. We’ve been making moves this offseason – getting certified by ByBlack, renewing with CBS, and recruiting and signing all-star players – to put together the best season yet and we can’t wait to show these cities what the BIG3 is all about.” It is unknown where the series will debut, but the Big3 currently has broadcasting deals with CBS and Paramount+. Be sure to check back at HotNewHipHop for all the latest details about the Big3 docuseries.

First Trailer For French Montana Documentary Released

French Montana was born Karim Kharbouch. Growing up in Morocco in the late 1980s, he idolized soccer and rap music. Then, out of nowhere, he found himself in the South Bronx. He would not find his breakout until the mid-2000s, with “Choppa Choppa Down” and Excuse My French. His journey from undocumented immigrant to worldwide star is one of hardship and grit.

Today, Montana is one of the best-known rappers and the highest-streamed African-born artist of all time. He is also a two-time platinum recording artist. However, he is also best known for his encounters with law enforcement and criminal involvements. But now fans will get a brand-new look into his life thanks to a tell-all documentary, executive produced by Drake and Diddy.

“For Khadija” Tells The Story Of French Montana

“Us watching America as kids, they sell you the dream. They don’t show you that behind those buildings, there’s the nightmare part.” The trailer’s opening line sets the tone of the documentary perfectly. This is not a boastful story of Montana’s success, but instead is an unsweetened look at the journey he took to the top. The story, which begins in Morocco and ends on top of the world, is full of hardship.

Named for Montana’s mother, the documentary explores several distinct areas of the artist’s life. There are the early years in the South Bronx, running as a street dealer to make ends meet. Then comes his rise in the early 2000s, his musical breakout. And finally, there is the rise and fall of Max B, Montana’s closest associate. But beyond that, the documentary promises authenticity and vulnerability. The trailer features Montana dwelling on the absence of his father, who returned to Morocco when Montana was 15. It will also provide more insight into Montana’s perspective on the incarceration of Max B and the events that led up to it. The documentary is set to show French Montana in a way that he’s never been seen before. For Khadija is set to debut at the Tribeca Film Festival in June.
