Nav Goes Back To Back With New Videos For ‘One Time’ And ‘Never Sleep’

Nav has been applying heavy pressure ever since the release of his latest album Demons Protected By Angels. In an effort similar to Drake’s 2015 smash diss record “Back To Back,” he has shared new videos over the last two days for “One Time” featuring Don Toliver and Future, and one of the lead singles “Never Sleep” featuring Lil Baby and Travis Scott.”

“One Time” opens with Toliver sitting on the roof of a Buick in the desert while singing the hook. Women walk past him and enter a desolate bar before the video transitions to Nav sitting in a motel room with a woman laying on the bed next to him. Future later appears on television, rapping in front of a beaten-down home.

“Never Sleep” follows the Toronto rapper through a fun night in Las Vegas. Scott appears in place of Abraham Lincoln on the back of a penny while performing his portion of the record, before appearing on a jumbotron and on a playing card. Nav shrinks his size and raps atop the blackjack table with chips scattered around him before Lil Baby appears, sitting atop a stack of chips while getting his bars off. The Weeknd also appears in the video, laughing next to Nav as they play blackjack.

These records follow Nav’s video for “Lost Me” featuring Realest K which was released on Saturday, just a day after Demons Protected By Angels was shared with the world.

Nav Reveals Why Drake Does Not Appear On ‘Demons Protected By Angels’: ‘We Could’ve Done A Better Song’

Over the years, there have been multiple cases of rappers or producers withholding big features from their albums because it “wasn’t the right time” (Rick Ross removing Pusha T from “Maybach Music VI”), they didn’t want one song to overshadow the entire project (Swizz Beatz not placing “Just Because” with Jay-Z, Nas, and DMX on Poison) or various other reasons. In the most recent case of this confusing phenomenon, NAV spoke on why his collaboration with Drake did not make it on his new album Demons Protected By Angels.

In the “Myself” artist’s recent appearance on Full Send Podcast, he told the hosts “We did a song. I feel we could’ve done a better song and the timeframe was just not good, it didn’t work out.” He continued on saying “He’s such a big artist that I didn’t want to put the song on the album and have it take away from anything else on the album. You know, take away life from all the other moments.”

Co-host Kyle Forgeard was bewildered and replied, “So you had a song with Drake and you’re purposefully not putting it on your album? That’s pretty crazy.”

Elsewhere in the conversation, NAV had nothing but positive things to say about the “Six God,” saying “Drake’s an amazing person and we hang out all the time in Toronto.”

Demons Protected By Angels was released on Friday (September 9) with features from Future, Travis Scott, Gunna, Bryson Tiller, and more. Though the decision was questionable, the hope is that maybe one day this collaboration will see the light of day.

Nav Reveals The Features For His New Album ‘Demons Protected By Angels’

With his new album Demons Protected By Angels coming September 9, Nav has revealed the album’s features, which include Babyface Ray, Bryson Tiller, Don Toliver, and more. On Tuesday, he shared a trailer for the album on his social media that opens with stunning aerial shots of his hometown, Toronto, then incorporates some eye-popping visual effects featuring the titular angels, demons, and a solar eclipse. It then lists the features, which also include Future, Lil Baby, Lil Durk, Lil Uzi Vert, RealestK, and Travis Scott.

So far, Nav has released two singles from the album. “Never Sleep” features Lil Baby and Travis Scott, while Nav flies solo on “Wrong Decisions.” Demons Protected By Angels is billed as Nav’s fourth studio album, and is preceded by 2020’s Good Intentions, which peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Since then, he’s released a deluxe reissue of the album titled Brown Boy 2 and a mixtape completely produced by Wheezy called Emergency Tsunami. He also featured on Internet Money’s hit single “Lemonade” alongside Don Toliver and Gunna and contributed features to songs from Belly, Rowdy Rebel, and Vory.

Demons Protected By Angels is due on 9/9 via XO/Republic Records. Stay tuned as the new album’s rollout continues.

Nav Recounts His ‘Wrong Decisions’ As He Prepares His New Album, ‘Demons Protected By Angels’

Toronto rapper Nav has returned and announced his fourth studio album, Demons Protected By Angels, which drops later this year on XO/Republic. It follows 2020’s Good Intentions, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart led by the single “Turks” featuring Gunna and Travis Scott. Since then, he’s released a deluxe version of Good Intentions titled Brown Boy 2, a reference to his 2019 EP, and contributed to Internet Money’s massive hit “Lemonade” alongside Gunna and Don Toliver.

Earlier this summer, after initially announcing his upcoming album, he dropped the first single, reuniting with both Lil Baby and Travis Scott on “Never Sleep.” Today, he’s followed up with another moody single, “Wrong Decisions,” which finds him reflecting on his fame-fueled malaise over a down-tempo self-produced beat. In the first half of the song, he raps in his usual monotone drone over an atmospheric, cavernous beat in the vein of the murky introspective jams that made Drake famous, but at the end, as he shakes off his blues, an orchestra crescendoes, giving the song a more triumphant air.

So far, Demons Protected By Angels does not have an official release date, but it is said to be dropping sometime this year. For now, you can listen to “Wrong Decisions” above.

Nav, Lil Baby, And Travis Scott Stay Up All Night To Grind On ‘Never Sleep’

Nav returns with the first single from his upcoming album Demons Protected by Angels, tapping collaborators Lil Baby, Mike Dean, Tay Keith, and Travis Scott for “Never Sleep.” Tay Keith provides the beat, with additional production by Grayson and Mike Dean, and the three rappers let loose, calculating their income and detailing their spending through colorful metaphors hailing their wealth. The collaboration marks Nav’s second with Lil Baby after “Don’t Need Friends” from Emergency Tsunami and his fifth with Travis Scott.

Demons Protected by Angels will be the Canadian artist’s fourth studio album, following 2020’s Good Intentions. Since then, however, Nav did release Emergency Tsunami, a joint mixtape produced entirely by Atlanta producer Wheezy featuring appearances from Gunna, Lil Baby, the late Lil Keed, SahBabii, and Young Thug. The working chemistry between Nav and Wheezy started when they worked on a few tracks from Good Intentions together (three songs were placed on the final album).

In addition to featuring many of his frequent collaborators like Gunna, Future, and Travis Scott, Good Intentions also featured appearances from Don Toliver, Lil Uzi Vert, and the late Pop Smoke. It was followed by a deluxe reissue titled Brown Boy 2, adding Lil Duke and Quavo to its list of features.

Nav Announces New Album ‘Demons Protected By Angels’

unnamed 22

NAV has revealed a new album with the title Demons Protected By Angels and pointed to the date of July 29th for something to occur a few days earlier. After his Emergency Tsunami mixtape, which was entirely produced by longtime friend and “Turks” producer Wheezy, NAV hasn’t released anything for almost two years.

Nav has over 9 billion streams worldwide, 4 Billboard Top 10s, and 11 Hot 100 hits to his credit. With Good Intentions launching at number one on the Billboard Chart (2020) and Bad Habits debuting at number one just one year earlier, NAV has two albums that have reached the top of the charts. Three songs received RIAA-Platinum certifications this year alone: “Up,” “Tap” (with Meek Mill), and “Tap” (2X Platinum).

More details for Demons Protected By Angels will come in the coming weeks.

Nav Announces His New Album ‘Demons Protected By Angels’

Toronto rapper and producer Nav is back with the announcement of his first big release since 2020’s Emergency Tsunami: he’s unveiling a new album called Demons Protected By Angels. It has no official release date yet, though he has been mentioning July 29 on social media, which could be the release date of the record or of a single.

Nav is known for frequent collaborations. Emergency Tsunami watched him work with the producer Wheezy. He’s also done tracks with Lil Baby for “Don’t Need Friends,” Belly for “Requiem,” Young Thug for “No Debate,” and more. It’s likely that Demons Protected By Angels will be full of more chart-topping collaborations with an eclectic range of guests.

In 2020, he also shared “Turks,” a song with Travis Scott and Gunna, released during the week that he was celebrating the one-year anniversary of Bad Habits, his sophomore album that served as his first Billboard 200 chart-topper. It was his fourth collaboration with Travis Scott, following Nav’s “Champion” and Travis’ “Biebs In The Trap” and “Yosemite,” which also featured Gunna. Gunna’s album DS4EVER debuted at No.1 on the Billboard 200, and featured a plethora of other guests including Landstrip Chip, Mobile, Yung Bleu, Beam, Rockford, and Fresco.

Gunna is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.
