Are Keke Palmer & Darius Jackson Still Together?

It’s been just a few weeks after Keke Palmer’s then-boyfriend, Darius Jackson, criticized her online for what she wore to an Usher concert in Las Vegas.

“It’s the outfit tho,” he tweeted at the time. “You a mom.” After getting hate from the internet and Palmer’s fans, he quickly deleted his account.

However, Palmer has not backed down from throwing some jabs his way, with her new appearance in Usher’s video for his song, fittingly titled “Boyfriend,” dropping today.

In the video, she is in bed and takes a call. “Dammit, I missed the show! Shit, I’m so tired…” Palmer says before winking at the camera. “I’m a mother after all.”

“Somebody said that your boyfriend’s looking for me / Oh that’s cool,” Usher also points out in the song.

Because of this, many might have wondered if the two were still together.

As for Jackson, he has “moved on” according to People Magazine. He also apparently wants to become an actor. The two are still working on raising their child, Leodis, who was born in February — but with new methods.

“You don’t have to be in the same household to be good parents,” the source also told the publication about how Palmer and Jackson are co-parenting.

The viral drama that resulted from her revealing dress got everyone’s attention and spawned weeks’ worth of news. Since then, both Jackson and Palmer have been non-committal in their answers whenever the drama comes up in interviews. But now a new People magazine report is claiming that Jackson has moved on.

“Darius is focused on an acting career and wants to put the drama behind him,” a source close to Jackson told People. In regards to the pair’s child together, it seems like there will still be a commitment to co-parenting. “You don’t have to be in the same household to be good parents,” a source close to Jackson also said. Jackson hasn’t spoken publicly much about the drama but fans did find a recording of him from before it happened pretty interesting. In the clip, he claims that he holds Palmer to a “perfect standard” something that felt extra fitting in light of his critique of her outfit choice.

For her part, Keke Palmer hasn’t been necessarily quiet about the drama. Just today she starred in a music video for Usher’s new song “Boyfriend.” The track and video are both full of obvious references to the drama. From the hook making reference to a seemingly analogous situation to the fact that the music video also takes place in Vegas, it isn’t particularly subtle.

Fan response to the video has been divided just like the response to the original story. Quickly after, the multi-hyphenate entertainer declared she was “Stevie [Wonder] to the bullsh*t,” backlash she received from her wardrobe and her harmless dance with Usher onstage. Now, she is taking it up a notch. Palmer took to social media to reveal that she will be in Usher’s official video for his single “Boyfriend.”

Following weeks of online chatter, Usher finally addressed the moment with People on August 4. “I think everybody’s vision or a version of what they felt happened there just leads you back to just really having a good time in Las Vegas. And that’s what I hope came out of it. Rather, it was a conversation of what was going on with us having fun in front of the audience or a conversation about that song,” said Usher.

Darius Jackson recently admitted that he holds Keke Palmer to a “perfect standard” in the latest episode of the actress’ podcast, Baby, This is Keke Palmer. The couple recorded the interview prior to their recent viral spat, which was centered around Palmer’s trip to Las Vegas. During her time in the city, she attended an Usher concert in a sheer dress. Jackson complained about it on social media afterward and the two unfollowed each other.

“At first, it definitely was hard because it could all be very overwhelming,” Jackson said on the podcast. “It was definitely overwhelming and intense at first.” Palmer agreed by chiming in, “It was.”

“And it’s like, you almost feel that pressure of needing to be perfect. And so, it really confused me and infiltrated my mind because not only did I have to hold myself to that perfect standard, I was also holding you to a perfect standard as well,” he continued. “So, any moment of flaw on my side or on your side it was World War III because it’s like, man, now the world sees us.” From there Palmer brought up the importance of privacy in the relationship.

The actress attended one of Usher’s shows over the weekend while wearing a see-through dress. Her boyfriend, Darius Jackson, complained about her attire on social media afterward.

However, to let Ms. Palmer tell it, she doesn’t even see the chatter online according to the caption of her latest Instagram post, which subtly responded to the kefuffle over her viral moment.

“One thing is certain and one thing is true, IM A MOTHA, through and through!” she wrote in the caption of a video singing Stevie Wonder’s “Isn’t She Lovely” to her son. “To all my mom’s out there, how did your baby change you?? Mine empowered me! On such another level, my perspective changed because when my baby is good I’m GREAT! Look at that face! Gratitude galore.”

Although she doesn’t overtly say it, this looks very much like a clear reference to Jackson’s comments on her video, in which he wrote, “It’s the outfit tho.. you a mom.” The outfit in question, a sheer unitard over a booty-baring black leotard, had many observers expressing their thirst, appreciation, or disapproval on Twitter (with a strong correlation, in this writer’s opinion, to the individual commenters’ level of “rizz,” as the kids say).

Over on TikTok, the former child star kept the same energy while dancing along to a viral audio of herself singing, “If you gon’ act up, I’m ’bout to link up.” It seems Palmer is a woman of her word, as she’s been moving in completely unbothered energy since the feud with Jackson began.

In the comments, many users have been speculating that trouble was brewing long before this “final straw” came. “As a Virgo… It was already issues/problems brewing at home. His public comment was him lashing out in an attempt to get her attention about his underlying insecurities of inferiority,” one person wrote. “He felt a lack [of] respect and importance wayyyy before the Usher show.
