Deion Sanders Praised By Nick Saban After 3-0 Start

Alabama coach Nick Saban has become the latest figure to offer up praise to Deion Sanders. “I have a tremendous amount of respect for Deion Sanders. First, he’s a great person and he’s done a great job of marketing the program to create a lot of national interest. But I see their team playing well on the field. They play with discipline, they do a good job of executing, they’ve been able to score points, playing decent on defense. So all those things, to me, are indicators that he’s a really good coach,” Saban told reporters on Wednesday.

Furthermore, Saban noted that this was an opinion he had held prior to Sanders’ arrival in Colorado. “He’s always been successful whether it was Jackson State, high school or now in Colorado. His teams have always been well coached.” Sanders began his coaching journey at his Prime Prep Academy in Texas in 2012. He also coached at Triple A Academy and Trinity Christian Community College before landing the Jackson State job in 2020. He went 27-6 with the SWAC powerhouse.

Sanders Shows The Love For Saban

However, the praise is by no means one-sided. Sanders praised Saban during a recent 60 Minutes interview. “I love and I adore and I respect and every time I do a commercial with Coach Saban — it’s a gift. Just sitting in his presence and hearing him and throwing something else out there so I can hear his viewpoint on it, because he’s forgotten more things than I may ever accomplish. So I’m a student looking up to this wonderful teacher saying, ‘Just throw me a crumb of what you know.’”

Both coaches are faced with ranked matchups this weekend. For Sanders, his #19 Colorado squad are 21-point underdogs at #10 Oregon to open Pac-12 play. Meanwhile, Saban has the #13 Crimson Tide up against #15 Ole Miss. For the first time since September 2015, Alabama is not ranked inside the top 10. The drop from #10 to #13 came after the Tide struggled against unranked UCF.

Mad Dog Outlines Hilarious Plan For Watching Deion Sanders’ Colorado Take On Oregon

You can always rely on Christopher “Mad Dog” Russo to bring his signature wild flavor to First Take. The veteran TV personality joined Stephen A. and Marcus Spears to discuss Colorado’s 3-0 start to the season and their impending Pac-12 opener against #10 Oregon. Then the segment went completely off the rails as Mad Dog outlined his exact plans for catching the night game on Saturday.

First, Mad Dog will be in Flagstaff visiting his son. His day starts with a run and some dog walking before he loosens up with a midday cocktail and a gummie and turns on the afternoon slate of college games. Once he’s “good and sauced”, he will call “Fat Rob” (his bookie) and drop “10 dimes” on Colorado before taking the rest of the gummie and watching the game. It’s a truly wild plan and all we can say is that we hope he enjoys it.

Mad Dog Betting Big On Colorado Upset

However, perhaps the most surprising part of Mad Dog’s day is the $10,000 bet on Colorado. Per ESPN, Colorado are 21-point underdogs against the #10 Ducks. Of the other four ranked v ranked games this weekend, only one other (Iowa @ Penn State) has a double-digit underdog. It’s a major leap of faith in a program about to play its make-or-break game. Furthermore, given the competitiveness of the Pac-12 in the conference’s final season, even just one conference loss could rule you out of the race for the conference title.

At the time of writing, Colorado has six ranked opponents in conference play. Their conference home opener pits them against #5 USC and Heisman favorite Caleb Williams. However, they must also take on 22 UCLA, #14 Oregon State, #21 Washington State, and #11 Utah. Let’s hope, at least for the sake of Mad Dog’s wallet, that Colorado can prove their doubters wrote and score the late-night upset in Eugene. Do you think Colorado can pull it off, especially without Travis Hunter? Let us know in the comments. Follow all the latest sports news here at HotNewHipHop.

Deion Sanders Invites DaBaby To Colorado, Offers Him A Spot On The Team

Deion Sanders has been exchanging social media pleasantries with DaBaby in recent days. It all began when DaBaby hit up Coach Prime while attendings the Panthers’ loss to the Saints with his kids. “PRIME WE NEED YOU IN CAROLINA AFTER YOU BRING THAT CHAMPIONSHIP TO COLORADO. Hit my line coach, let’s talk. @deionsanders.” Deion responded some time later, inviting the rapper up to Boulder. “Lolololol. I’m good here. I need u here my brother. And bring the babies. Prime loves the kids.”

However, after video emerged of DaBaby showing of his skills, Sanders hit DaBaby once again. “Quick feet good release and u stacked the DB,” Sanders commented on the post. “We know you’re a Dogg so You got a offer to play At COLORADO. Let’s go Baby.” Colorado’s next home game is against #5 USC in two weeks’ time.

Regardless of whether walkout receiver DaBaby rolls up to Boulder, it’s time for the Buffs to prove that they are the real deal. While a 3-0 record and #19 ranking in the AP Poll is nice, it’s fair to say that Colorado has had a fairly favorable start to the season. They beat an overhyped TCU squad by three, crushed the ever-hapless Nebraska, and needed an 11-point comeback and double-overtime to beat a Colorado State team projected to finish 7th in the Mountain West. The team’s upcoming slate of games will be a true test of what the squad is capable of.

For Colorado, Pac-12 play begins with a trip to #10 Oregon. The Ducks are projected to finish fourth in the conference and even received a first-place vote in preseason media voting. However, Colorado will be Oregon’s first real test of the season as well after wins over Portland State, Texas Tech, and Hawai’i. After Oregon is a matchup against #5 USC, led by Heisman favorite Caleb Williams. Beyond that, the Buffs have four other (currently) ranked matchups in #22 UCLA, #14 Oregon State, #21 Washington State, and #11 Utah.

Deion Sanders And Colorado Shatter Viewership Records With Rocky Mountain Showdown Win

Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes have yet another thing to celebrate. Their 43-35 comeback win against Colorado State last week shattered numerous viewership records for ESPN. Per a press release from the network, the game was the fifth-most watched game ever broadcast on the platform. Furthermore, it is also ESPN‘s most-watched late-night game and most-streamed game of all time. Additionally, it is ESPN and ABC‘s fourth-most watched regular-season game, excluding conference championships, in the last six seasons. The viewership peak was 11.1 million viewers, with the game average being 9.3 million.

However, it’s not all good news. Two-way star Travis Hunter was knocked out of the game after an illegal hit by Colorado State’s Henry Blackburn. Hunter is expected to miss several weeks due to a lacerated liver. However, Sanders has spoken out in defense of Blackburn after the player and his family began receiving death threats. “Henry Blackburn is a good player who played a phenomenal game. He made a tremendous hit on Travis on the sideline. You could call it dirty, you could call it, ‘He was just playing the game of football.’ But whatever it was, it does not constitute that he should be receiving death threats. This is still a young man trying to make it in life. He does not deserve a death threat over a game,” Sanders said.

Fox News Finally Addressed The Lauren Boebert Groping Fiasco By Taking A Dig At… Megan Thee Stallion?

After initially ignoring the Lauren Boebert groping scandal that went viral over the weekend, Fox News has finally addressed reports that the Colorado congresswoman was booted from a Beetlejuice production for inappropriate behavior.

John Roberts first addressed the Boebert fiasco while filling in for Bret Baier, things went predictably off the rail when Laura Ingraham entered the fray. After getting teed up by Raymond Arroyo who noted that there “have been many other politicians who have been caught in similar situations” — which seems like a stretch as more details emerge — Ingraham went straight to saying the now-infamous groping video was only released because Boebert is a Republican.

Via Mediaite:

“Raymond, it seems like they get the video out really fast when it’s a Republican, right? There is no hesitation about releasing or dumping video out when it’s some Republican who has done something goofy, stupid, or embarrassing but heaven forbid you have a Democrat doing something, it usually takes forever to get that video out,” shot back Ingraham defending her side.

However, Arroyo surprisingly took the ball even further by equating Boebert’s behavior to a wildly popular recording artist, who was just minding her own business.

“Look, I’m an equal opportunity reporter here on this stuff,” Arroyo said. “If we’re going to argue that you need a code of dress and I think you do, you need a code of conduct, too. You are the congresswoman of Colorado, not Megan Thee Stallion. So, slow your roll. Have some self-restraint. It’s going to be a very difficult re-election season for her, I think.”

Colorado Football Dual Threat Travis Hunter Out with Lacerated Liver

Coach Prime and the Colorado Buffaloes will be without dual-threat Travis Hunter for the next few weeks. Hunter suffered a lacerated liver after a brutal hit at the hands of Colorado State’s Henry Blackburn.

Skip Bayless revealed the injury during Monday’s episode of UNDISPUTED, citing he will miss 3-4 weeks.

According to ESPN, Blackburn has received death threats for the hits and his phone number and campus address were leaked online.

“We’re very concerned about our player’s safety, as Henry and his family have continued to receive these threats,” Colorado State athletic director Joe Parker told ESPN. “Henry never intended to put anyone in harm’s way on the football field. It’s not what we teach or coach. We hope that the irrational vitriol directed at Henry stops immediately.”

Hunter is not holding hard feelings, stating, “something bad is going to happen on the field sooner or later.”

Lil Wayne Receives Custom Jersey From Deion Sanders, Celebs React To Thrilling Colorado Win

Lil Wayne was in Boulder for the Rocky Mountain Showdown this weekend. During the hours of buildup before the game between Colorado and Colorado, Wayne linked up with Colorado head coach Deion Sanders. During their meeting, Sanders gifted Wayne a custom Colorado jersey with a Tunechi nameplate. Elsewhere, Sanders also briefly ran into Offset, who was very excited to meet him.

Following Colorado’s win over Nebraska last week, Lil Wayne had dialed in to give a motivational speech to the Buffs’ roster. “I remember when I was younger. And I was a part of a group called the Hot Boys. That group consisted of Juvenile, B.G., Turk, and the likes of people like Birdman and Mannie Fresh. And I remember we were in the studio — every night. I would just be coming home from school, like 12 years old. So I would just get dropped off at the office and stuff. Everybody was talking about what they wanted to do, what was going on with their days. I couldn’t talk about my 12-year-old stuff. So, what I had to do was impress them. They were my idols. They were everything I thought I should be. So I had to impress them in the booth. It wasn’t about the conversations we were having. It was about the booth,” Wayne told the team.

LeBron, Brady And More Heap Praise On The Buffs

Colorado State came very close to knocking off #18 Colorado in the first Rocky Mountain Showdown since 2019. The game was tied at 28 at the end of regulation and once again the teams traded touchdowns in the first OT period. However, the Rams were left in a hole after the Buffs went up eight on a two-point conversion. They drove down to Colorado’s four-yard line before an illegal block pushed them back to the Colorado 18. Two more passes fell incomplete as the Rams tried to tie up the game. However, on 4th & 0, safety Trevor Woods snagged the pass and sealed the game for the Buffs.

After the thrilling win, a wealth of celebrities showered praise on Deion and the Buffs. “SHEDEUR YOU’RE A PROBLEM!!!! ⭐🫡,” LeBron James exclaimed. Meanwhile, Tom Brady replied to a tweet about Sanders going “Brady Mode” with an iced-out emoji and a steam nostrils emoji. As for Robert Griffin III, the ESPN analyst had a bigger picture take about. “Colorado Fans storming the field after beating a team they were favored to beat, is the clearest example of the hope Coach Prime has brought to a fan base that hasn’t won or had this type of spotlight in a long time,” RG3 wrote. Check out some of the most notable reactions below.

Deion Sanders Gets Love From Offset And Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson Ahead Of Colorado State Game

Just about every college sports show is in Boulder today for the Rocky Mountain Showdown between Colorado and Colorado State. Since the game doesn’t kick off till 8pm local time, that’s a lot of airtime to fill. So the various shows up in Boulder have been bringing out a lot of people to talk about how great Deion Sanders is. For College GameDay, who is in Boulder for the first time since the 90s, that pundit was Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

Already in Boulder for WWE SmackDown, The Rock was more than happy to join ESPN to discuss what Coach Prime has been doing at Folsom Field. “What Deion Sanders is doing right now — let’s talk about this just for a second, because we are witnessing something that is not only game-changing in the face of college football, but also, something that’s very special. And what that special thing is, is passion mixed with love mixed with disruption mixed with swagger mixed with confidence, but also, there’s an undercurrent here that Coach Prime is doing, is he’s changing the face of college football, and he’s doing it his way. But he’s also doing it in a way — and this is the hard part — that is galvanizing not only a town in Boulder, Colorado, but also galvanizing an entire country.”

Offset Vibes With Sanders

However, The Rock wasn’t the only person showing some love to Coach Prime. Offset was also in Boulder and managed to get some one-on-one time with Sanders amid the sea of fans following the coach around. The two spoke briefly before embracing. In the comments, people joked that Offset was in the one place where “Kenneth [Petty] can’t find him.”

The Rocky Mountain Showdown returns for the first time since 2019. Once an annual affair, the two sides have not played each other since the pandemic. Colorado has won the last five matchups against Colorado State. Despite this, Deion might want to watch out for a scary historical precedent. The last six times a team has entered the Rocky Mountain Showdown ranked in the AP Poll, they’ve lost. Colorado enters the matchup at #18 after their 2-0 start to the season.

Deion Sanders Responds To Colorado State Trash Talk

Deion Sanders has hit back after Colorado State head coach Jay Norvell took a few shots at the Colorado coach. “I’m minding my own business watching some film, trying to get ready, trying to get out here and be the best coach that I could be and I look up and I read some bull junk that they had said about us, once again,” Sanders told the team. “Why would you want to talk about us when we don’t talk about nobody? All we do is go out here, work our butts off and do our job on Saturday. But when they give us ammunition, they done messed around and made it [personal],” Sanders told his players in a newly-released video.

“It was just gonna be a good game and they done messed around and made it personal. It was gonna be a great task — a battle of Colorado, but they done messed around and made it [personal]. Now he’s messing with my mama,” Sanders continued. Colorado has beaten Colorado State in five consecutive matchups. However, the two sides have not contested the Rocky Mountain Showdown since 2019.

Sanders and Norvell Ready For Showdown

With ESPN College GameDay in Boulder for the game, Norvell has had plenty of time in front of the camera. “It was great. I loved it,” Norvell said of the added attention. “But our kids came out of those [interviews] really with a chip on their shoulder. They’re tired of all that stuff. They really are tired of it. They’re [Colorado] not gonna like us no matter what we say or do. It doesn’t matter. So, let’s go up there and play. That’s just how I feel about it.” However, Norvell also acknowledged that Colorado has “a great football team”.

Colorado State are 0-1, having dropped their opening game to Washington State 50-24. Meanwhile, the school has dropped their last five games against Colorado and their last 23 games against ranked squads. However, the last six Rocky Mountain Showdowns to feature a ranked team have been won by the unranked side. Despite this, Colorado enter as 23-point favorites. “Deion Sanders has had a lot of public critics. I’m not one of them,” Norvell told reporters. “I really respect all head coaches and the sacrifices they’ve had to make to become head coaches, and I appreciate the path they have to go through to get there — especially African American coaches. I was happy to see Deion get his opportunity, I had to wait a long time to get mine.”

Colorado State Head Coach Takes Shots At Deion Sanders

The war of words in the Rocky Mountain Showdown has finally began, with Colorado State Head Coach Jay Norvell taking the first shots. “I don’t care if they hear this in Boulder, I told them [ESPN] — I took my hat off, and I took my glasses off. I said, ‘When I talk to grown-ups, I take my hat and my glasses off. That’s what my mother taught me.” Norvell’s comments came on his weekly radio show as he prepares for the first in-state rivalry match since 2019. It’s Norvell’s first Rocky Mountain Showdown, having joined Colorado State after four years with Nevada.

Norvell oversees one of the most interesting squads in the country. A recent profile in The Athletic noted the Rams squad as having “An Arnold Amateur Strongman champion, a sumo wrestler, two tribesmen, an openly gay defensive lineman, a 30-something father of three and so much more.” Furthermore, Norvell made a comment that could be taken as a shot at Sanders’ marquee recruit signing approach. “We have the whole world to find guys that fit what we’re looking for.”
