Shedeur And Shilo Sanders Not Declaring For 2024 NFL Draft, Father Deion Claims

Deion Sanders has announced that neither of his sons will be declaring for the 2024 NFL draft despite being eligible. “They’re gonna come out the same year, next year. They’re not trying to leave daddy this year, by the way,” Sanders told The Dan Patrick Show this week. Shedeur, Colorado’s starting quarterback is a junior whose ability to thrive in the Pac-12 has seen his draft cap skyrocket. Many people see him as a first-round QB4 in 2024. Meanwhile, Shilo is seen as a mid-round safety who can play the 2024 college season due to the COVID waiver.

While both prospects are intriguing in their own ways, it’s clear that Deion wants more year of them at Colorado. If they don’t defy their father and jump to the NFL, that means they will play a season in the Big 12 when Colorado changes conferences next year. Furthermore, that will mark Shedeur’s third conference and Shilo’s fourth. Next year’s conference schedule sees Colorado play Arizona, Texas Tech, Kansas, UCF, Utah, Baylor, Oklahoma State, Kansas State, and Cincinnati.

Sanders & Colorado Continue To Struggle

However, all is not well in Boulder, Colorado. Colorado dropped their third consecutive game, falling below .500 for the first time this season. It came as a late rally against Oregon State fell short and the Buffs were knocked off 26-19. It’s now been a full month since Colorado’s last win, a 27-24 victory over Arizona State. Furthermore, the bowl window is closing bit by bit. Colorado, who are 4-5, need two wins from their last three games to be bowl-eligible.

Unfortunately for the Buffs, they have a rough schedule to close out the Pac-12 season. Up next is #21 Arizona, who are coming off three consecutive victories against ranked opponents. Then there is Washington State, who are 4-5 after a white-hot start to the season. Finally, they end the season against #18 Utah, who are 7-2. While Sanders has said the team isn’t thinking about bowl season, it would be an incredibly disappointing end to a season that started off so well.

Deion Sanders Demands NCAA Compensate Colorado Players For UCLA Robbery

Deion Sanders publicly demanded that the NCAA or UCLA directly compensate his players after the Colorado Buffaloes were reportedly the victims of a robbery during a recent road game. “Our kids got robbed during the game last week. I think that’s a travesty. I would expect the NCAA to do something about that. This is the Rose Bowl. They said the granddaddy of ’em all, right? I’m sure granddaddy had some money. Grandpa should have some money to give these kids,” Sanders told reporters during a press conference this week. “I’m going to have a list made out from these young men, and I know they’re going to be truthful about what they lost, so we can try and get it back for them. They may not be able to get the items back, but they should be able to reimburse them. That was unbelievable,” he continued.

Furthermore, Sanders squarely put the burden of responsibility on the NCAA. “It don’t make no sense when you’re out there ballin’ and playing your heart out and you get robbed at the same [time]. I hope we can do something about that, NCAA. You do something about everything else. Do something about that,” Sanders noted. UCLA officials confirmed that a police report had been filed with the Pasadena PD. The Rose Bowl, which serves as the Bruins’ home stadium, is about 26 miles from the main UCLA campus. The robbery reportedly occurred during UCLA’s 28-16 win over the Buffs this past weekend.

Losses All Round For Sanders & Colorado

It appears that nothing can go right for Sanders and his ailing Colorado team. The UCLA loss was their fourth loss in the last five games, bringing them to 4-4 on the season after a 3-0 start. Furthermore, starting quarterback Shedeur Sanders is potentially a scratch for their game against #16 Oregon State this weekend. Sanders took another seven sacks and reportedly needed an injection at halftime to keep playing. Sanders made the decision to sit his son during early week practices. “I think I’m going to give him another day or so off, so he can heal properly and he can be at his best. We want his best. He’s doing well, though, mentally, physically, as well as psychologically,” Sanders explained. If Sanders needs to miss the game, the ball will be turned over to freshman Ryan Staub or junior Gavin Kudd.

There are four games left on Colorado’s schedule, with the Buffs needing at least two wins to be bowl-eligible. They have two home games next up, facing #16 Oregon State (6-2) and Arizona (5-3). After that, they hit the road to close out the regular season. That road trip begins at Washington State (4-4) and the season is closed out at #18 Utah (6-2).

Deion Sanders Isn’t Leaving Colorado Anytime Soon, Manager Claims

The manager of Deion Sanders has told reporters that the Hall of Famer has no plans to leave his position at the University of Colorado anytime soon. “He’s staying. He’s staying. He’s staying,” Constance Schwartz-Morini told The Rich Eisen Show. There had been rumors that Sanders, who is in the first year of a five-year deal, could up and leave before too long. Potential destinations ranged from a more prominent Power 5 program to following his sons to the NFL. However, it appears that Boulder is where Coach Prime wants to be.

Sanders’ impact has been immediate, both on and off the field. The culture around the once-great Colorado program has completely changed. The school has sold out its home games for the first time in years. Celebrities ranging from Lil Wayne to DaBaby are in the crowd whenever the team plays at home. Furthermore, on the field, Sanders has 4 wins already in his first season. That’s as many wins as Colorado managed between November 2021 and the end of the 2022 season.

Sanders & Colorado Prepare For End-Of-Season Gauntlet

This weekend, Colorado return from their bye to face #25 UCLA. The Buffs are 5-13 all-time against the Bruins and last beat them in 2020. However, they have been outscored 89-37 in their last two meetings with the team. The Bruins are 5-2 this season, having dropped a pair of ranked games to Utah and Oregon State. Furthermore, the Bruins will be debuting throwback uniforms against the Buffs, with fits matching the team uniform between 1954 and 1970.

However, Sanders remains confident. “My expectations are lofty. So, you know darn well how the season is going with my expectations. It depends on your expectation. You can’t mix my expectation and your expectations because they don’t coincide. You know what mine are. I know where I feel like we should be record-wise and I know what we can accomplish,” he told reporters this week. He also went in hard on his son, starting quarterback Shedeur Sanders. Smith had called out the younger Sanders explicitly for an ill-time merch promo that dropped at halftime with the Buffs up 29-0. The team would go on to lose 46-43 in overtime.

Meanwhile, their only unranked opponent, Arizona, recently pushed USC to triple overtime. It is by no means an easy feat for Colorado to reach 6-6, let alone a winning record.

Despite this, they will have a week to recover. Next weekend is Colorado’s bye, where they will look to shore up a defense that ranks 7th worst in the country in terms of points allowed. After that, the first game of their season-ending gauntlet is a road game against #25 UCLA. Colorado will have two more home games this season (#12 Oregon State, Arizona). Furthermore, Sanders chalked the loss up to complacency. “I talked to them about the old cliche people say — it’s 0-0 but that’s not true. It’s not 0-0, it’s 29-0. I felt complacency going into the half because we stalled offensively, gave up some yardage as well. Just didn’t like how I felt going in at halftime. We come back out and here comes complacency. Here comes that team that I can’t stand, that you can’t stand it. You can’t understand how in the world that happens to us. But it did.”

With famous faces Cedric the Entertainer in attendance, Colorado raced out to a 29-0 lead and early in the third quarter, had a 99.8% probability of winning the Pac-12 matchup. However, the Cardinal preserved, outscoring the Buffs 46-14 across the second half and overtime. It became the biggest comeback in Stanford history, as well as the biggest blown lead in Colorado history. After barely escaping 1-win Arizona State last week thanks to a field goal, Colorado had to watch as a game-ending field goal sealed their loss to 1-win Stanford.

Deion Sanders On Travis Hunter Suiting Up Against Stanford: “There’s A Tremendous Chance He Plays”

Hunter has been out since suffering a lacerated liver against Colorado State on September 16. Since then, Colorado has dropped from 3-0 to 4-2. They opened Pac-12 play with back-to-back losses against Oregon and USC. However, they were able to survive 1-4 Arizona State to escape with a win and snap an eight-game conference losing streak.

Colorado Eye Bounce Back Against Ailing Cardinal

Colorado may have gotten the win last weekend, but it wasn’t clean and it didn’t leave Sanders in the best mood. “Wonderful win, but we played like hot garbage and I’m trying to figure it out. Buffs & Sanders Eye “Gimme” Over Arizona State

After reality checks against Oregon and USC, Colorado has a much easier game this weekend. Arizona State are 1-4, having lost every game since their opening week win over Southern Utah. There were little expectations for the Sun Devils, who will join the Big 12 next season. The team was predicted to finish 10th in the league in the preseason media poll. The team is under the guidance of first-year head coach Kenny Dillingham. Dillingham spent last season as Oregon’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

However, the Buffs will be without Travis Hunter for the game, the two-way presence they have sorely missed the past two weeks, Hunter continues to recover from the lacerated liver he suffered against Colorado State.
