Cardi B Paid $10K Out Of Pocket For “Bodak Yellow” Music Video In 2017

If there’s one thing Cardi B has always had for herself, it’s vision. The 30-year-old felt called to superstardom from deep within, and so she set her sights and began acting accordingly. Of course, there have been speed bumps along the way – both legal and romantic – but now she seems more self-assured than ever before. As she prepares to share her sophomore album (a follow-up to the Grammy Award-winning Invasion of Privacy), Cardi seems to be in a reflective mood according to a tweet shared on Tuesday (June 20) morning.

“Fun fact: I [spent] $10,000 on the ‘Bodak Yellow’ music video,” the mother of two revealed. Along with the tidbit of hip-hop history knowledge, she shared a throwback photo taken while filming the visual. While wearing an elegant, deep red dress and stiletto heels, Cardi sits on the hood of a luxury whip. While her beauty budget and the expensive car likely took up a lot of that money, several members of the Bardi Gang were quick to ask their favourite artist how much she paid for the leopard who appears beside her on-screen throughout the footage.

Cardi B Reflects on Past Hits

As Uproxx reports, Cardi previously shared her inspiration for “Bodak Yellow” during an interview with Billboard. “I wanted to do a song that is, like, ‘You know what? I’m in a good place in my life right now, and I want to stun. I felt it in my soul — this song is going to be so popping.”

Despite the New Yorker’s obvious enthusiasm about the single, her label reportedly wasn’t feeling it. Staying true to her own vision, Cardi got the funds together on her own accord to put the video together. It’s since amassed well over one billion streams and was Diamond certified by the RIAA in 2022 after selling upwards of 11 million units.

Latto Revealed The Advice Cardi B DMed Her About Internet Trolls

While some of their fans can’t help but pit the current crop of women in rap against each other (seriously guys, just watch sports. It’s the WNBA season! There are legit winners and losers every game!), many female rappers are more than content to show each other support and solidarity as they face sexism in the music industry and its audience. In a new interview with Cosmopolitan, Latto described just what forms that support can take.

“I get messages in my DMs all the time,” she revealed. “[Her rapper friends Cardi B and Yung Miami] telling me to stop responding to trolls, inviting me to birthday parties, album release parties. And a lot of DMs from Cardi especially like, ‘Stay focused. Don’t let no one trick you off your spot. I’ve been there before.’ And just giving me insight from stuff that they’ve already seen and done.”

Unfortunately, having this sort of outlook hasn’t stopped some fans from speculating that she’s got beef with one rapper or another — especially after she called out Nicki Minaj for allegedly being a bully who tries to stop other women from flourishing. When she mentioned Coi Leray in a line from her new song “Put It On Da Floor,” some fans tried to assert that they got into a physical altercation, even after their misunderstanding was resolved. And some fans can’t help comparing Latto to Ice Spice, who recently collaborated with Nicki.

Cardi B Shared A ‘Fun Fact’ About The Cost Of Her ‘Bodak Yellow’ Video, Which She Paid Out Of Her Own Pocket

Cardi B isn’t hurting for any cash. In fact, the “Put It On The Floor Again” rapper even gifted her son Wave with hundred dollar bills to play with. But before the Bronx native was a hip-hop star, she was responsible for raising the moment to fund her career in the industry.

Taking to Twitter, the recording artist recounted those moments, writing, “Fun fact: I spent ten thousand dollars on the ‘Bodak Yellow’ music video.”

After transitioning from being an independent artist to a major label, Cardi B shared the track as her debut in the big leagues. During an interview with Billboard, the musician talked about the inspiration behind the record, saying, “I wanted to do a song that is, like, ‘You know what? I’m in a good place in my life right now, and I want to stun. I felt it in my soul — this song is going to be so popping.”

It is rumored that Cardi B’s label did not believe in the track at the time. Therefore, Cardi B forked up the cash to pay for the video — an investment that shaped her career. The month following the song’s release, it earned a gold plaque from RIAA in August 2017. By January 2018, it was four-times platinum. Last year, it was certified diamond, with over 11 million units sold.

Offset Hypes Up Cardi B As She Twerks In The Back Seat Of A Moving Vehicle: Watch

Former Migos member Offset is usually one to keep the most intimate details of his life out of the public eye. However, one thing he never tires of showing off is his wife’s booty. We’ve seen plenty of Cardi B’s behind on her man’s Instagram Story over the years, but in recent weeks the couple has been wilding out with reckless abandon. This past weekend, the mother of two made an appearance at Hot 107.9 Birthday Bash with Offset in tow, and while they were cruising down the highway she didn’t hesitate to make it clap as he recorded.

Wearing a light blue catsuit and pastel pink wig, Cardi puts her retired stripper skills to use in the viral clip. The rap diva stands up and holds onto the front centre console for balance before twerking and turning up. It remains unclear if the video was captured before or after she appeared during 21 Sav’s set – either way, she certainly had lots of energy and continues to gain more confidence ahead of her upcoming sophomore album.

As DailyMail reports, Hot 107.9’s event took place in Atlanta, Georgia on Saturday (June 17) evening. During her time performing, Cardi brought out 21’s rumoured girlfriend, Latto, to show out during their recent collab, “Put It On Da Floor Again.” The pair’s work has been on repeat for many since it first arrived, and is already an obvious top contender for the song of the summer.

After supporting his wife’s live show, Sunday (June 18) saw Offset link up with his former collaborator Quavo. The pair joined other friends and family for a celebration on what would’ve been the late Takeoff’s 29th birthday. Fans were happy to see the two remaining Migos talking in a photo, both wearing white t-shirts with a smiling portrait of their fallen friend displayed across the front. 6ix9ine Apologizes To Cardi B Over Past Beef, Explains It Was Due To His Ex-Girlfriend

When Cardi B’s name gets caught up in hip-hop drama, it’s most often affiliated with her contemporaries, such as Nicki Minaj. Of course, she has had her share of issues with male artists too, including 6ix9ine. Years ago it was speculated that the “GOOBA” artist named Cardi as a member of the Nine Trey Bloods. At the time, he was working with police as an informant. The Grammy Award winner’s team has since shut down those allegations. Still, 6ix9ine has been known to throw shade at his fellow New Yorker in more recent years.

Back in February 2021, the embattled star publicly dissed Cardi, and while he was dating his ex-girlfriend, Jade, their feud only became more intense. During a new interview on the Alofoke Radio Show, 6ix9ine admitted that his last relationship is what caused a major wedge between him and the 30-year-old. More recently, the controversial artist has been spending time with Yailin Hablan, who appeared alongside him in the sit-down. The entire conversation was recorded in Spanish, but everyone in the room’s passion and good humour still shines through. According to 6ix9ine’s new girl, both of them are supporters of Cardi now.

Elsewhere on camera, the multi-talent spoke about the surprise album he dropped this past New Music Friday (June 16). It seems 6ix9ine is venturing away from his rap roots (especially after being outcast by the genre for his aforementioned snitching) and is instead leaning into the reggaeton market, who have been seriously enjoying his latest body of work.

In other news, Cardi B has been busy focusing on preparing for her highly anticipated sophomore album to drop. To ensure her physique is as camera-looking as always the mother of two underwent another round of laser hair removal last week, which she candidly documented for her IG followers. Read more about that at the link below, and check back later for more hip-hop/pop culture news updates.

Cardi B Undergoes Full-Body Laser Hair Removal: “I Told Y’all, I’m A Hairy B**ch”

Ever since her days as a stripper, Cardi B has gone to extreme lengths to keep her body and face looking beautiful. Of course, there are various plastic procedures to which she’s admitted, as well as regular maintenance treatments that leave her skin looking smooth and camera-ready at all times. In the latter category is full-body hair removal, which the mother of two underwent again earlier this week. She even documented some of the painful process for her followers on Instagram while recommending they check out the Rich Bich Clinic in New York City.

“It’s that time again you f**kers,” the East Coast rap diva declared in a video posted to her Story on Thursday (June 15). “I’m so scared,” she admitted while seemingly laying in the office nude. “It’s time to laser my whole body, because baby, I told y’all! I’m a hairy b**ch,” Cardi confessed to viewers. “But I keep it under control,” she quickly assured them. The 30-year-old said her trouble areas are her bikini area and underarms, both of which tend to darken in colour over time.

Cardi B Reminds Us Pain is Beauty

“We trying to keep that booty hole brown only,” Cardi salaciously teased. “You know what I’m saying? Sometimes it can get a little dark up close.” The Grammy Award winner makes it obvious that she felt some serious pain while on the table, but still praised the estheticians for their tremendous work on her skin. Cardi still hasn’t revealed when she’ll be dropping her sophomore album, though she did give us an idea of who she plans to collaborate with next earlier this week.

At the time, the “Be Careful” hitmaker was obviously in a braggadocious mood while making it clear that she doesn’t feel inclined to hop on a song just because it’s trending, or because the Bardi gang wants her to anymore. Rather, she’s focused on collaborating with people who she really connects with. Do you think you could handle the pain of full-body laser hair removal? Let us know in the comments, and check back later for more hip-hop pop culture news updates.

Cardi B Wants To Work With Artists Who “Make [Her] Ears Jump,” Not Just Big, Charting Names

When Cardi B goes Live on Instagram, you never know what you’ll get. Earlier this month followers watched her take a break from eating Popeyes chicken to twerk along to her most recent single, “Put It On Da Floor Again.” The collaboration with Latto has been a huge success for the pair, but in her latest stream, the New York rap diva made it known that she doesn’t plan to only work with “big, charting” artists to guarantee success. Instead, she’s feeling called to work with those making music that really stands out to her.

“I feel like y’all constantly ask me to do big collabs,” the mother of two explained to those tuning in earlier this week. “I’m not gonna be collabing with everybody that’s big. I’m gonna be collabing with people that make my f**king ears jump and make me happy,” Cardi added. She also made it clear that it’s tiring for fans to constantly encourage her to hop on whatever track is charting at the moment. “If I like it, I’m gonna get on it,” the 30-year-old assured them. “Even if it doesn’t make sense.”

Cardi B Gives an Update on Her Future Vision

Now that she’s been at the top of the rap game for several years, Cardi is feeling more “comfortable in her position to do so.” Ahead of her sophomore album (which she promised is coming soon earlier this year), the fashionista is feeling like her “confidence is all the way up” in all areas of her life. “I always been a b**ch that pulls ni**as, that pulls b**ches,” she reminded viewers. “Your f**king favourite rappers, your favourite f**king favourite athletes f**king been in my DMs and f**king waiting for a chance, but it will never happen!”

“N**as d**ks and b**ches p***ies start shaking when they hear I’m gonna drop something,” the “WAP” hitmaker further bragged as her Live went on. LSU’s Flau’jae Johnson Wanted To Be In Latto And Cardi B’s ‘Put It On Da Floor Again’ Video With Her Teammate Angel Reese

Flau’jae Johnson recently opened up to Uproxx about winning LSU’s first NCAA Division I basketball championship this April and celebrating that win while her song, “Big 4,” filled the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.

“The fact that I’m being recognized for my music as well as my basketball at the highest level, that was a breathtaking moment for me,” Johnson said. “Both of my lives crossed over how I wanted it to. It was an amazing feeling. It felt like a movie.”

Lil Wayne was among those impressed by Johnson. NLE Choppa featured Johnson and her LSU teammate Angel Reese in his star-studded “Champions” video just weeks ago. But Latto and Cardi B’s “Put It On Da Floor Again” video is the one that got away.

Johnson joined The Baller Alert Show for its June 10 episode and was asked around the 28-minute mark why she wasn’t in the video alongside Reese.

“Angel, she loves doing videos,” Johnson said. “She’s a cute girl. You know what I’m saying? Like, that’s her thing. … So, Latto, she hit me about it, like, the day before.”

Johnson explained that she told Latto she was in Los Angeles but could still “make it happen,” leading to confusion when the video came out without her involvement.

“Her people never hit my people,” she continued. “But I had seen — she had asked Angel like a week before. You feel me? I was like, OK, maybe she really ain’t want me in the video, for real, but she had to ask me because we had kind of a relationship before, and she put Angel in it. But I was like, I didn’t really care ’cause Angel was in it, and that was a big moment for women’s basketball.”

Still, Johnson can’t help but wonder “why wouldn’t you put me in it? It just makes sense.”

Cardi B Spanks Her Own Booty On Twitter To Celebrate “Put It On Da Floor Again” Success

One thing about Cardi B’s Twitter page? It’s always lit. From community service outfit photos and lusting over Janelle Monae’s thirst traps (which ultimately got her shadowbanned) to ranting about fake figures in the industry and singing Lady Gaga while strutting across her kitchen counter, you never know what you’ll get from the New York-born star. On Monday (June 12) she surprised us once again. This time she showed off her famously round booty in celebration of her latest single’s success.

Earlier this month, Cardi linked up with Latto for “Put It On Da Floor Again,” a remix of the 777 artist’s successful “Put It On Da Floor.” The pair performed it together live for the first time at Hot 97 Summer Jam. Since then, the mother of two’s verse has earned her nothing but consistent praise from fans on social media. Seeing as her song is doing so well, Bardi couldn’t help but record herself spanking her tattooed behind in a pale blue mini dress, thanking listeners for helping her rack up the streams.

Cardi B Gives Back to Fans in a Bootyful Way

“Y’ALL DID THAT!!!” the 30-year-old told her followers. “Put it on the floor then!!” Her post has since received upwards of 50K likes, along with countless thirsty replies from those jealous of Cardi’s husband, Offset. Apart from taking time to hype herself up for her musical wins, the Hustlers actress is also likely celebrating a major legal victory from her back tattoo lawsuit. Ultimately, she was awarded back $350K months after a jury rejected Kevin Brophy’s case.

Unfortunately, the Grammy Award winner isn’t having as much luck in her case with Tasha K. She’s been asked to halt collecting the $3M+ debt she’s owed, which you can read about at the link below. Have you listened to Cardi B and Latto’s “Put It On Da Floor Again” collaboration? If not, check it out here, and make sure to tap back in later this week for more HNHH release recommendations.

Cardi B Went Full ‘Uno’ Reverse Card And Was Awarded $350K From Her Accuser To Cover Legal Fees

In the courtroom, Cardi B doesn’t miss. The “Put It On Da Floor (Remix)” rapper landed another sizable monetary settlement. After fighting a $5 million misappropriation of likeness lawsuit filed by RVCA marketing manager Kevin Brophy, a judge ruled in the entertainer’s favor. Although the verdict was announced in October 2022, the case was far from over.

It is now being reported by Billboard that the accuser, Brophy, has to pay back Cardi B’s legal fees, totaling $350,000. In the paperwork obtained by the outlet, the legal representatives for both wrote, “The parties now have reached an agreement avoiding the necessity of defendants’ motion for attorney’s fees and application to tax costs.”

The 2017 case stemmed from Cardi B’s Gangsta B*tch Music, Vol. 1 mixtape cover art. In the artwork, Cardi appears to be receiving oral sex from a tattooed man. Brophy alleged that the male model used for the Photoshop played on his likeness based on their similar back tattoo, testifying, “It felt like my Michelangelo was stolen off the wall and just literally ripped off and robbed and just put wherever these people wanted to put it. It looks like I’m giving oral sex to somebody that’s not my wife, somebody that’s not my partner, and an image that I never signed off on, ever.”
