Bruno Mars And Anderson .Paak Have Delayed Their Silk Sonic Album To 2022 For A Specific Reason
Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak have taken their time introducing Silk Sonic to the world: After releasing their hit debut single “Leave The Door Open” in March, it took nearly five months for them to drop their next one, “Skate.” Now, they’re putting their patience on display once more: The duo’s debut album, An Evening With Silk Sonic, was initially set for a fall release, but now it’s being pushed back to January 2022.
They made this reveal in a new Rolling Stone feature. The piece notes that the duo decided they wanted to release more songs before the album so each one could “breathe a bit,” with Mars saying, “I don’t want to be binge-watched.”
He also explained where he and .Paak are at with the album at the moment, saying, “We’re really in touch-up mode now. We’ve got the bones of most of the album, so it’s really about touching up parts that need a little more… grease.” .Paak added, “Which could mean redoing the song from scratch!”
With a laugh, Mars continued, “Being here for another three years! But no. We’re not there. We were there. We had some moments in the danger zone! I think we put the pressure on ourselves by putting out ‘Leave The Door Open’ — but a deadline is important, because at some point, you gotta say, ‘This is it.’ Otherwise you’re gonna work it ’til you hate it. But there’s a beauty in that — you do have to get sick of it, because that means you put the love and the time and the passion in it, and it’s taxing. That bridge [on ‘Leave The Door Open’] almost broke the band up. But it wasn’t right, and we all felt it.”

Anderson.Paak’s New Tattoo Might Be A Response To Pop Smoke’s ‘FAITH’
R&B musician Anderson .Paak is making a statement with his latest tattoo. In the midst of criticism about posthumous albums that re-ignited after the release of deceased New York Drill artist Pop Smoke‘s second album Faith, the West Coast crooner has found himself wanting to clarify his instructions for the release of his music after […]
Anderson .Paak Has Tattoo Against Dropping His Music Posthumously
Anderson .Paak Got A Tattoo Demanding No Posthumous Releases Of His Music When He’s Gone
Posthumous albums have been a major part of the musical landscape in recent years, as projects from Mac Miller, Pop Smoke, Juice WRLD, and other late artists have been successful. It’s not an entirely new phenomenon, though, as artists like Joy Division, Aaliyah, and countless other older acts also had defining releases after their lives ended.
Anderson .Paak isn’t a fan of posthumous releases, though. More specifically (and perhaps more accurately), he’s not a fan of any of his unreleased music coming out once he’s gone. He’s so adamantly against that happening, in fact, that he went ahead and declared that in a new tattoo.
In a recent Instagram Story (as NME notes), .Paak showed off the ink on his arm, which reads, “When I’m gone, please don’t release any posthumous albums or songs with my name attached. Those were just demos and never intended to be heard by the public.”

The good news is there’s more music from .Paak to look forward to while he’s still with us. His and Bruno Mars’ Silk Sonic recently released its second single, “Skate,” and there’s more on the way from the duo.

Silk Sonic Keeps The Funk Rolling With Their Inviting New Single, ‘Skate’
There’s no doubt that Anderson .Paak and Bruno Mars’ upcoming joint album as Silk Sonic is one of the most anticipated projects of the year. The duo set the bar extremely high earlier this year with the release of their debut single, “Leave The Door Open.” The groovy track quickly became a favorite of music lovers from all over, and soon enough, the singers would be hit with repeated requests to drop a follow-up to the song. Tonight, the duo comes through with “Skate,” at long last
If you had any fears of a misstep from Silk Sonic, we can confirm that none have occurred as “Skate” does nothing but keeps the funk alive. The track is released with a colorful video that features Bruno and Anderson performing for a group of female rollerskaters. Bruno sits behind a set of congas while Anderson takes his talents to a classic drum set. All in all, the song is quite the inviting release as the duo begs a woman that’s caught their attention to make her way over to them.
It’s very possible that “Skate” could bring the same success to Silk Sonic as “Leave The Door Open” did. The latter spent two weeks at No. 1 on the singles chart and helped the duo win Best Group at the BET Awards this year.

Silk Sonic Invited Fans To A Cryptic ‘Summertime Jam’ This Friday
While fans have been waiting for a follow-up to Silk Sonic’s debut single, “Leave The Door Open,” the superstar duo have been tight lipped on when the follow-up will actually drop. After performing the song at the BET Awards, they hinted that a new song was on the way, but it was a bait and switch, and no new music came.
Now, that might all be changing though, as a new tweet shared by both Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak is inviting fans to something happening this Friday. “You’ve been invited to Silk Sonic’s Summertime Jam this Friday,” the poster reads. While that doesn’t shed a whole lot of light on what will go down at the event, it is promising that new music will be involved, in some capacity.

After all, what is there left to do when it comes to promoting “Leave The Door Open”? The song already went No. 1 a couple times, and they performed it live not just at the BET Awards but also at The Grammys. If Friday doesn’t include some more new music from this supergroup duo — or at least an update on when new songs will drop — the fan reaction is already evident from responses to the tweet announcement:
