ASAP Rocky Attributes New Album’s Delay To Leaks, But Fans Aren’t Buying It

ASAP Rocky’s Don’t Be Dumb is one of the most notoriously delayed and long-awaited projects on the horizon right now, and in a world where Frank Ocean and Playboi Carti also exist, that’s saying something. Over the years, we got plenty of teases, announcements, merch drops, delays, and comments that, for one reason or another, have yet to result in a new album. Moreover, even singles have dropped that didn’t see a lot of follow-up, so a lot of fans are wondering what’s up with it. Well, the Harlem creative reportedly spoke recently on one reason as to why his new project is still in the oven.

“Dummies need to stop leaking,” A$AP Rocky reportedly remarked concerning his new album’s delay, a common and understandable notion. “Every time, it’s back to the drawing board.” However, this would probably hit a lot harder and ring much more true for fans if they weren’t asking where in the world these leaks that he talked about even are. The fact that people failed to get their hands on it is either a sign that they’re looking in the wrong places or that there aren’t any leaks to begin with, and that there’s another reason why there’s no new LP yet.

Of course, even if these leaks are a facetious claim, there are plenty of other valid and understandable reasons as to why this delay is so notorious and lengthy. If we were starting a family with Rihanna, beginning the journey of fatherhood, and getting a lot of extracurricular gigs in many fields, we might pause our project indefinitely, too. A$AP Rocky is in a very exciting time in his life right now, and it’s one that doesn’t need a new album attached to it to validate or immortalize it. Sure, it would be awesome, but it’s not like he is as elusive as some other folks who haven’t dropped in a while.

In addition, A$AP Rocky’s shooting case also brought him plenty of legal trouble and attention, which is another valid reason for delay. The most frustrating thing about it, though, is just how long he’s been teasing it for, and how rollouts seemed so close to manifesting but just missed the mark. Ultimately, we may never know why this new album is taking so long. There’s only one way to make us forget about that and make it a much more irrelevant question: by dropping it!

A$AP Rocky Gets Trial Date In A$AP Relli Shooting After Pleading Not Guilty

Harlem rapper A$AP Rocky has finally been given a trial date in the shooting of A$AP Relli after pleading not guilty.

Rolling Stone has confirmed that Superior Court Judge Karla Kerlin set two preliminary hearing dates for June 28 and August 2, with the trial scheduled to begin on October 21. Rocky, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, was charged with two counts of assault with a semi-automatic firearm and faces up to 24 years in prison if found guilty.

Last year, a judge ruled that there was enough evidence for Mayers to stand trial over the charges.

Rocky allegedly shot his former friend and crew member A$AP Relli during a “heated argument” in Hollywood back in 2021. Relli claimed that the tension grew between the two after Rocky agreed to help one of the deceased crew members’ family, but reportedly never did.

Relli claims that A$AP Rocky arrived to a meeting in an L.A. hotel with multiple men, pointed a gun at his stomach and said: “I’ll kill you right now.” In his testimony he also says that he was shot shortly afterwards and claims Rocky shot him four times, including once in the hand before leaving the scene of the shooting.

A video shown in court during a preliminary hearing included audio of two gunshots around 10 p.m. PT on November 6, 2021, which is a major piece of the prosecution’s evidence of the shooting.

Relli is also suing Rocky and his attorney Joe Tacopina for defamation, accusing them of running a media campaign that says his entire testimony is fabricated.

Rihanna Models New Lingerie And Claims She’s “Looking For Nudes”

Rihanna’s fans have spent years awaiting new music, but the multi-medium star is busy in entirely new mediums. One of the most significant is her Savage x Fenty lingerie brand. She often steps in to play the role of a model for new releases. She did so earlier this year for the brand’s new Valentine’s Day launch reminding fans how great she can look. That’s the case once again with a nude teddy that coaxed an evocative caption out of the “Lift Me Up” singer.

“looking for nudes” she captioned her most recent post, which dropped over the weekend. It’s attached to a video of RiRi herself showing off a piece from the brand’s upcoming Signature Script collection. She’s also giving voice over to many of the clips and even briefly addressing the camera directly. In the comments, fellow celebs showed up to show love for the R&B darling. Rihanna continues to give fans reasons to believe that her new album is still approaching. Late last month she once again teased her new album building up hopes among her die hard fans. She specifically described the album as “Amazing” before filing back through rumors in the years since she dropped Anti back in 2016.

One person who is also dealing with plenty of album speculation is A$AP Rocky. He’s been teasing a new project called DON’T BE DUMB dating all the way back to last year. Rihanna isn’t doing anything to help slow the hype train down either. She’s repeatedly talked about how he’s working on the project often and was present when he recently teased it at a pop-up. What Did ASAP Rocky Say About Drake?

Drake and ASAP Rocky have a long history that dates all the way back to the early 2010s. At the start of their relationship, they were friends. As a matter of fact, some consider Drake to be a significant contributor to ASAP’s subsequent success in the music industry. Many fans believe that the tale of ASAP Rocky’s rise to stardom cannot be told without mentioning Drake.

Yet, over the years, the relationship between the two has turned sour. Since ASAP Rocky began dating Rihanna, his relationship with Drake has slowly deteriorated. So much so that the two have now fired shots at each other via diss tracks. The most recent jab was from ASAP and is featured on “Show of Hands,” a track from Future and Metro Boomin’s latest collab project, We Still Don’t Trust You. It remains to be seen if the two rappers will ever reconcile and become friends again. However, the chances of that ever happening seem to get smaller by the day.

ASAP Rocky Disses Drake On “Show Of Hands”

This has been an interesting year for Hip Hop so far, with a number of prominent acts taking shots at Drake. It began with Kendrick Lamar on “Like That” with Future and Metro Boomin. Now, ASAP Rocky has also dissed Drake on another Future and Metro Boomin track. The song, “Show of Hands,” is featured on the duo’s latest project, WE STILL DON’T TRUST YOU. On the track, ASAP spits some venomous bars supposedly aimed at Drake. “Ni**as swear they bi**h the baddest, I just bagged the worst one / Ni**as in they feelings over women, what, you hurt or somethin’? / I smash before you birthed, son, Flacko hit it first, son / Still don’ trust you, it’s always us, never them / Heard you dropped your latest sh*t / Funny how it just came and went,” Rocky raps on the track. As things get more heated, fans eagerly wait to see if Drake will respond to ASAP Rocky more directly in the future.

Drake & ASAP Rocky’s Early Relationship

After ASAP Rocky released “Purple Swag” and “Peso” in 2011, he got the attention of many in the music industry, one of whom was Drake. Following the release of his critically acclaimed mixtape Live. Love. ASAP (2011), Rocky garnered even more public attention. Sometime within that period, he linked up with Drake, and the two began working together. Subsequently, in 2012, ASAP Rocky served as an opening act for Drake on his Club Paradise Tour. It was the highest-grossing Hip Hop tour of 2012, introducing many new listeners to ASAP Rocky. Later, on October 24, 2012, the rapper released “F**kin’ Problems,” which features Drake, Kendrick Lamar, and 2 Chainz. That track remains the only one featuring both rappers. However, they stayed on good terms for several years afterward. The tension between the two started much later, in 2020, when ASAP Rocky got into a romantic relationship with Rihanna, Drake’s ex.

2022: Drake Expresses Displeasure At ASAP Rocky & Rihanna’s Relationship

When news of Rihanna and ASAP Rocky dating came out in 2021, many wondered how Drake took it. While we can’t say for sure, chances are the “Take Care” rapper didn’t take the news very well. However, throughout 2021, he ignored the topic and did not address either ASAP or Rihanna. Subsequently, in January 2022, the couple announced they were expecting their first child together. Soon after this revelation, X news account @PopTingzz reported that Drake had unfollowed both ASAP Rocky and Rihanna. While he still hadn’t directly addressed the topic, according to fans, his actions said more than enough.

2023: Drake Allegedly Disses Rihanna On For All the Dogs

On February 12, 2023, Rihanna headlined the Super Bowl LVII halftime show. At the end of her performance, she revealed that she was pregnant for ASAP Rocky once again and was expecting the child soon. Following the news, Drake was trolled on the internet for “losing the girl” and watching ASAP Rocky live his dreams. However, the rapper still did not address the topic. Subsequently, on October 6, 2023, Drake released his eighth studio album, For All the Dogs. On the track “Fear of Heights,” he finally seemed to speak about Rihanna, albeit indirectly.

“Why they make it sound like I’m still hung up on you? / That could never be/ Gyal can’t run me / Better him than me / Better it’s not me,” he raps in the opening lines of the track. “I’m anti, I’m anti / Yeah, and the sex was average with you / Yeah, I’m anti ’cause I had it with you,” Drake continues, not so subtly. Later in October, when a reporter from TMZ caught up with ASAP and asked if he would respond to Drake, he ignored the question. Well, we certainly got our answer in 2024.

Unpacking The Weeknd & ASAP Rocky’s Shots At Drake On “WE STILL DON’T TRUST YOU”

Drake is giving Thanos as rap’s biggest stars assemble to avenge his dominance of the game, his lackluster material… or something unknown behind the scenes. On Future and Metro Boomin’s new album WE STILL DON’T TRUST YOU, it appears that Drake remains a focal point, similar to its March predecessor. But instead of Kendrick Lamar stealing the shine, these new (subliminal) disses are via two former collaborators, admirers, and friendly colleagues: The Weeknd and A$AP Rocky.

For those unaware, Abel Tesfaye almost joined OVO way back when, and the Harlem native embraced the 6ix God as of at least April of 2021. However, despite their history together, it seems like these two artists “picked a side” against Drake at some point, and now doubled down on that animosity. So how did they diss him on this new project?

The Weeknd’s Shots At Drake

The track “All To Myself” contains a seemingly overt shot at Drake. “I thank God that I never signed my life away” might see The Weeknd reference how Aubrey Graham almost signed him to OVO in 2011. The After Hours star ended up choosing Republic Records. Through sub-tweets, plus less overt and frequent connections and link-ups, many fans speculated that The Boy was not happy about this decision at all. Here’s an example of a December 2012 tweet that folks thought could’ve been aimed at Abel: “You won’t get away with just a thank you… you owe me a favor.”

Other potentially targeted lines on “All To Myself” are “They could never diss my brothers, baby,” possibly alluding to Drake and Metro Boomin’s traded shade, and “They shooters making TikToks,” potentially referencing OVO affiliate Baka Not Nice’s prolific presence on the social media platform. While other rumors claim the Certified Lover Boy also upset The Weeknd by trying to get with Bella Hadid after their breakup, these are unconfirmed. All these situations happened amid displays of love here and there, much like our next subject.

A$AP Rocky Takes Aim At Drizzy

A$AP Rocky’s appearance on “Show Of Hands” apparently references his supposed fling with Sophie Brussaux, the mother of Drake’s son Adonis, before or as their relationship was developing. “N***as in they feelings over women, what, you hurt or something? / I smash before you birthed, son, Flacko hit it first, son,” he raps on the cut. These rumors surfaced upon the release of 2018’s “The Story Of Adidon,” Pusha T’s diss that exposed Aubrey’s family to the world. While Rocky seemed to deny them online, his “F***in’ Problems” collaborator never addressed them.

“Show Of Hands” also seemingly references Drake’s recent releases (“Heard you dropped your latest s**t, funny how it just came and went“) and seeks actual conflict (“F**k keeping this s**t hip-hop, I wanna see a f**k n***a bleed out“). But considering their joint performances, a party with Rihanna in April 2021, and more public formalities, the feud that Rocky and The Weeknd supposedly have with Drake is still pretty vague. Still, speculation spread like wildfire that the “8AM In Charlotte” MC dissed his former flame, and Rocky’s current partner on For All The Dogs cut “Fear Of Heights.” Many also speculated that Rocky returned fire on Kid Cudi’s Insano earlier this year. As unclear and contradictory as these feuds might seem on the surface, there’s a strong possibility that Abel and Flacko finally picked a definitive side concerning their issues with Drake.

Drake must’ve done something to set off a lot of folks in the rap game, or they’ve all had to join forces to force him to address any sneak disses, issues, or flexes. Moreover, ASAP Rocky is the latest MC or artist to seemingly take shots at the Toronto superstar on the new Future and Metro Boomin album series. This time around, it appears on “Show Of Hands” off of WE STILL DON’T TRUST YOU after the first installment made their supposed distaste for Drizzy a hot topic of debate and speculation. Specifically, the New York native seems to claim that he was with Sophie Brussaux first, who is the mother of the OVO mogul’s child Adonis.

“N***as in they feelings over women, what, you hurt or something?” A$AP Rocky raps on the cut. “I smash before you birthed, son, Flacko hit it first, son.” Other possible shots at Drake include “Heard you dropped your latest s**t / Funny how it just came and went” and his heft proclamation that “F**k keepin’ this s**t hip-hop, I wanna see a f**k n***a bleed out.” This also comes as fans are reacting to Aubrey Graham not dropping a diss track last night responding to all this as many had expected. Still, just like with most things having to do with these beefs, that was only speculation.

Future, Metro Boomin & ASAP Rocky’s “Show Of Hands”: Listen

In fact, the only thing we really know for sure about the many beefs, shots, and responses surrounding these Metro Pluto projects is that Kendrick Lamar was going at Drake’s neck on “Like That.” Other than that, these are all just speculative explanations and connections drawn on previous context, which sometimes lines up almost perfectly. In this case, for example, fans online pointed out how Adonis’ paternity was actually debated in court between the “Slime You Out” singer and A$AP Rocky. There’s also the fact that the former was once tied to the latter’s current partner Rihanna.

Still, these two MCs have shown each other a lot of love before, including lyrical references that at the very least seem neutral and plenty of collabs, link-ups, and the like. As such, a lot of fans are wondering what exactly is going on here, and if these are just a bunch of coincidences. Unfortunately for anyone hoping for peace and unity soon, it doesn’t seem like we’ll get any of that in the near future. On Tuesday morning RiRi’s Interview Magazine cover story dropped, consisting of iconic, gender-bending outfits and a conversation with Mel Ottenberg that reflects how life has changed for her since becoming a mother.

At one point, Rih was asked about the time when her man, ASAP Rocky, grabbed her butt during a performance at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards. They were singing the hypersexual “Cockiness (Love It)” when the New Yorker gave his future lover’s behind a squeeze. “So when he grabbed my a** that night, everybody thought I was about to… My team was worried that I wanted to have his head on a f**king mantle,” the 36-year-old recalled of her short temper.

Concerning the celebrity couple, the last update we got from them had little to do with their actual relationship and more to do with their musical moves. As for A$AP Rocky’s next album, Don’t Be Dumb is still in limbo, but some singles and other collaborations keep the hype for it alive. Another 2024 cut from him was the Anderson .Paak and The Free Nationals collab “Gangsta,” another great team-up that he should be quite proud of. However, there’s really no telling when the New York MC will finally kick his rollout into full gear. We’d expect a surprise drop given all the hype already surrounding it, or at least a little bit of anticipation so fans can bask in the moment.

Meanwhile, ScHoolboy Q recently (and hilariously) revealed why a collab project with him fell through. All we can say for sure is that, whatever this next album brings, there will probably be plenty of lines for fans to laugh at considering the fatherly context. Doja Cat & A$AP Rocky Trade Contagious Energy On “URRGE”

Today has been one of the best in hip-hop so far in 2024. During this first quarter of the year, we have been treated to some fantastic music and we are very grateful to be in the thick of it. We have gotten out of the blue albums, diss tracks, and releases from some big names. One of those is Doja Cat with “URRRGE!!!!!!!!!!” This is one of the new cuts from the deluxe version of her 2023 album Scarlet. It was a project that saw the California multi-hyphenate go into nearly full rap mode and was a controversial record for many reasons.

This bonus version, Scarlet 2: CLAUDE sees Doja Cat tack on seven new tracks with “URRRGE!!!!!!!!!!” being one of them. What makes this track one to remember is the incredible and fun verse from A$AP Rocky. These two have never worked together, but we are glad they were able to come together here. Some may not see how these two would jive with one another, but the beat selection here matches their styles up perfectly.

ASAP Rocky Left Verse Off “Say Ya Grace,” Cole Bennett Shares As Fans Beg For Album

ASAP Rocky would’ve fit like a stylish, satin glove on the new Cole Bennett-directed Lyrical Lemonade album All Is Yellow. Alas, such potential is hard to materialize sometimes, and it turns out that he was actually among the stacked cast of features that were meant to appear on the project. However, it looks like things didn’t quite work out, which is understandable considering the New York rapper’s busy personal schedule. Amid fatherhood, legal trouble, and career moves outside of music, perhaps the cards didn’t fall right. Moreover, Bennett took to Twitter on Saturday (January 27) to reveal this information to fans.

“Rocky had a verse on Say Ya Grace originally,” the music video director and creative expressed. “Maybe the world will get to hear it one day.” Considering the sheer longevity of ASAP Rocky’s career -– and that of his ardent fanbase, which only seems to grow every day -– we wouldn’t be surprised if there’s enough hype around this to release the verse one day. Still, we can’t guess on when or how it will ever come out, and as many hardcore fans will remind you online if you bring this up, he has much more pressing musical matters to attend.

Furthermore, ASAP Rocky fans want him to release his long-awaited fourth studio album already. He’s been cooking it for years up until this point, so much so that we can’t even say for sure whether it will really be called Don’t Be D*mb, as he teased so long ago. Regardless, patience is the name of the game here, and all we can hope is that the A$AP Mob head honcho’s project is fantastic whenever it does arrive. But the longer it pushes back, more and more folks will tune out and forget, so the clock is ticking for a hyped drop.

Meanwhile, with his firearm assault case in mind, it’s unfortunate that factors like this clearly delayed this new album. However, there are much better reasons for Rakim Mayers to leave his craft behind for some time: his growing family. As such, we can’t really blame him, but if we were him, we’d prioritize solo work over features. Hopefully “Say Ya Grace” is an indicator that this is the path ASAP Rocky chose.
