Common Claims Michael Jordan Trashed His Hoop Skills

Common appeared in the 2010 NBA All-Star Celebrity Game. Playing alongside the likes of Mavs owner Mark Cuban and Hall of Famer Becky Hammon, Common iced a pair of free throws late in the game to secure the win for the team coached by Magic Johnson and Drake. The iconic rapper has appeared in a total of eight All-Star Celebrity Games, even being named MVP in 2020. He had a 10/5/5 stat line in his MVP performance.

However, that Celebrity Game prowess game in spite of some harsh words from an NBA legend back in 2010. Speaking with Men’s Health, Common recalled how he ran into Michael Jordan soon after the game. “I just played in the celebrity game and hit the last free throws to seal the game. In this picture, when I greeted him, he told me to stick to rapping. He grounded me in this picture, for sure,” he said. The incident occurred after Jordan had watched Common perform in concert.

Common Considered A Basketball Career

Soon after telling his MJ story, Common also revealed that he once considered a career in basketball. However, he reportedly switched his focus to music after suffering an injury in his junior year of high school. While he is undoubtedly a major contributor to modern hip-hop, Common took time to talk about how he valued the major contribution that Nas had made to the genre.

“That’s why we related to when Nas talked about what he talked about on Illmatic. He experienced it, and the way he told it was just beautiful. In ‘One Love,’ he talks to his boy in prison. That’s one of the greatest songs ever written,” Common said in reference to the trip to an abortion clinic that later inspired his song “Retrospect for Life”. It’s not the first time Common has lauded Nas either. “His mentality was on a whole other level, so it just made me start thinking on a different level. Illmatic is one of those things, it was like, okay — and I was probably 20­, 21 — that was like life changing for me,” he said on the Bridge Podcast last year.

Quavo Performs “Who Wit Me” For Atlanta Braves Fans: Watch

Quavo is readying a brand-new album for this Friday, simply titled “Rocket Power.” Overall, this is going to be an emotional release for the artist. It is a tribute album to Takeoff, whom he spent so much of his time with. Although the Migos rapper has suffered immense tragedy, he is now looking to channel that pain into his music. Fans are expecting a truly fantastic album, and there is no doubt that Take will be proud of it. That said, the release date is two days away, and the anticipation continues to mount.

Ahead of this release, Quavo has been spending a lot of time in his hometown of Atlanta. He went to the Beyonce concert the other night, and he has also been hosting pop-ups. Last night, however, the artist spent his time at an Atlanta Braves game. The team is one of the best in Major League Baseball right now, and they were taking on the New York Yankees. In fact, the Braves came through with a solid 5-0 victory. Although, this was not the highlight of the night. Instead, it was Quavo’s performance on top of the dugout.

Quavo Pays Tribute To Takeoff

Above, you can see the artist deliver a great one-minute rendition of his new song “Who Wit Me.” This song is an emotional one as it speaks directly to the passing of Takeoff. The track sounds great, and we cannot wait to hear the studio version, which will be dropping on Friday alongside Rocket Power. As for the crowd, they seemed to be into the performance as all 40,000 fans in attendance let out a cheer at the end. For Quavo, this must have been an amazing feeling.

Reason Boldly States J. Cole Will Surpass Kendrick Lamar After “The Fall Off”

Reason’s issues with Top Dawg Entertainment spilled out into the public eye last week. The TDE rapper and label president Moosa went head-to-head on the Bacc On Figg podcast over Reason’s release schedule. However, one thing Reason made clear is that he’s received plenty of love from the Dreamville crew over the years. He’s a frequent contributor to the Dreamville compilation efforts and it seems that he got the opportunity to hear some new music from J Cole.

During a recent interview on New Rory & Mal, Reason reflected on Kendrick Lamar’s “Control” verse before sharing his thoughts on J Cole’s upcoming album, The Fall Off. Reason explained that Cole is on pace to surpass Kendrick Lamar once the new album drops. “I think when The Fall Off drops, only on the strength of — ’cause TDE fans are f**king crazy — not ’cause he’s better than Dot, but just because he’s been more active. I feel like when The Fall Off drops, the fruits of his labor from being so active are gonna show,” Reason explained.

Reason On J Cole’s New Album

Fans have frequently debated whether J Cole or Kendrick Lamar is the better rapper. Although Kendrick’s earned a list of accolades that have set him apart from his peers in hip-hop, J Cole’s undoubtedly been far more consistent in recent years. Projects like K.O.D. and The Off-Season silenced many of Cole’s critics over the years. However, Reason feels as though Kendrick and J Cole have their respective moments. “But they’ve done this for years, though. To me, they’ve kinda like — Dot is bigger at this point, Cole [is bigger at that point]. They’ve kinda done that for a long time,” he explained.

Reason is fresh off of the release of his latest album, Porches, which arrived on Aug. 11th. The body of work boasts an array of features from TDE artists including Doechii, Ray Vaughn, Sir, and Zacari. Artists like Baby Tate and London Money also appear across the tracklist. Maybe, we’ll see him on J Cole’s upcoming album, which has yet to secure a release date. We’ll keep you posted on anymore updates.

Lil Yachty Called Out For Response To Sexyy Red’s Story

Sexyy Red revealed during an appearance on Lil Yachty and MitchGoneMad’s A Safe Place Podcast that she’s been a victim of rape, but Yachty’s response has fans on social media upset. After Red brought up the incident, the two podcast hosts appeared unsure of how to handle the conversation.

When asked for the “cr*ziest” thing she’s ever been through, Sexyy Red responded: “I got raped before. That’s the cr*ziest thing that ever happened to me.” Yachty and MitchGoneMad both pause and then ask for a different story, to which Sexyy answers with a “shoot out.” Both of the hosts then start laughing, before later apologizing. The way they handled the situation didn’t sit well with some fans on social media.

Supreme has announced a new colorway for its Air Force 1 Low collection. In the Fall/Winter 2023 lookbook, the brand confirmed the rumored “Baroque Brown” sneaker edition. The release is brown dominant and stamped with the red supreme logo on the outer heel.

NBA Youngboy is taking his talents to fashion, appearing as the new face of Supreme. In a new set of photos, NBA Youngboy is seen in various Supreme fits and even bringing in one of his kids for the photoshoot.

In the pair of photos, Youngboy wears a white Supreme tee and gives a menacing stare. The second, he dons a Black hoodie while holding his child’s hands. Additionally, he spells out Supreme in another picture. You can see the campaign images below.

In addition, NBA Youngboy will be the next Hip-Hop star to have an item with Rap Snacks. Details on what Youngboy’s snack will be are currently short, as the Rap Snacks official Instagram page offered a teaser announcement.

In May, NBA YoungBoy still delivered his Richest Opp project. The new release comes on the heels of Youngboy recently dropping his 33-track Don’t Try This at Home album. In addition, YoungBoy released the video for “Bitch Let’s Do It.”

Chief Keef Urges Drake To Send In The Vocals

The wait for Chief Keef’s new album is real right now. Over the past few months, he’s quietly pushed back the release of his album, Almighty So 2 on numerous occasions. It’s still unclear why he hasn’t dropped the project yet but it looks like he’s waiting on finalizing the tracklist. Usually, when these type of delays occurs, it means that an artist is waiting on clearance, whether for samples or features. With an October 13th release date set, per Apple Music, it looks like he’s currently waiting on one feature from one of the biggest artists in the world.

Drake looks like he might be on Chief Keef’s upcoming album. Over the weekend, Drake shared a photo dump on his Instagram page where he showed love to Young Thug. The rapper showed off a “STOP RICO” hoodie that included the cover art of Young Thug’s Jeffrey. However, Chief Keef slid under the photo to ensure that Drake came through with the vocals. Channeling the spirit of DJ Khaled, he wrote, “Don’t forget them vocals crody” in the comment section of Drake’s post.

Drake & Chief Keef Cook Up

Although the two haven’t worked together directly, they have shown love to each other in the past. During the Club Paradise tour, Drake and Waka Flocka brought Chief Keef out onto the stage to perform his breakout record, “Don’t Like” for an iconic moment. While the two never locked in new music together, Drake worked alongside Chief Keef’s associate, Lil Reese, on the “Us (Remix)” alongside Rick Ross. Drake and Chief Keef’s collaboration certainly feels long overdue.

Meanwhile, Drake’s currently cooking up his forthcoming project, For All The Dogs. Originally rumored to drop before the It’s All A Blur tour, the rapper shared a handful of updates in recent weeks. However, he’s yet to set a release date for the project. We still have hope that it might drop before his tour comes to an end. Tory Lanez Reportedly Received Letter Of Support From A Police Chief

Tory Lanez is going to prison for the next 10 years. Although he probably won’t have to serve all 10 of those years, it is still a massive sentence. Overall, it was one that many say coming. Originally, he was facing 22 years. From there, the prosecution decided to seek a 13-year sentence. Once the judge ruled on the case, he landed at 10 years. This was ultimately due to Tory’s reckless behavior on social media following the shooting. Many found it reprehensible, and as it turns out, so did the judge.

Much has been made of the letters the judge received from famous people in relation to Tory. Well, according to Meghann Cuniff, Lanez was also getting support from those in law enforcement. New Haven Chief of Police Chris Hammann reportedly sent in a nice letter in regard to Lanez. As you will read below, he called for a lenient sentence as he believes in personal growth and rehabilitation.

Tory Lanez Gets More Support

“While we acknowledge the serious nature of the charges against Mr. Peterson, we also believe in the power of redemption and the potential for personal growth,” the letter explains. “Our legal system should not solely focus on punishment but should also provide opportunities for rehabilitation and reintegration into society.” Of course, Iggy Azalea and Mario are two other big names that supported Tory Lanez in this way. Both took a lot of heat for it, however, they haven’t given in to the backlash, at least not yet.

Regardless, it is interesting that Tory would have gotten support from a police chief, all things considered. Either way, it did not seem to matter in the end, much to the artist’s chagrin.
