Sean Kingston Talks Plotting His Comeback, New Album “Deliverance” & Jay-Z’s Advice

There was a time when the summer months were ruled by Sean Kingston. Artists nowadays rush to the studio in hopes of penning the next big summer hit, and while many have succeeded, few of those records have had the longevity of Kingston classics including “Beautiful Girls,” “Take You There,” “Fire Burning,” “Eenie Meenie” with Justin Bieber, or his Natasha Bedingfield collaboration, “Love Like This.”

The Miami-born Jamaican singer burst onto the scene after being discovered on MySpace during a time when artists were first figuring out how to utilize this new thing called an “online presence.” In today’s internet climate, it’s nothing for an aspiring artist to attain hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of followers who help make them into the next big thing in music, without the aid of a label’s push. Yet, 15 years ago it was a new concept, and while speaking about his upcoming album, Kingston told us in an exclusive interview that being discovered online is something he’s continued to be grateful for, while offering up advice to hopeful artists.

“Be original, stay interesting, stay new. Come up with new ideas, new melodies, new vibes,” said Kingston. “I feel like that’s the easiest route because it’s like, everybody’s on their phone nowadays, so basically, you gotta figure out how to come in with something new to capitalize your audience.” He called his transition from MySpace to the industry “a blessing,” noting that he makes sure to remain connected to his fans and supporters online, albeit now it comes in the form of Instagram comments and DMs.

The award-winning singer’s fans have relished in those brief moments with Kingston, especially considering it’s been quite some time since he released an album. He’s collaborated with artists like Trippie Redd, Bow Wow, Brandy, Flo Rida, Sean Paul, Nicki Minaj, N.O.R.E., Three 6 Mafia, Bun B, and Juelz Santana—and that’s just as a performer. It was all the way back in 2013 when Kingston dropped off Back 2 Life, and since that time, he tells us he’s been busy working behind the scenes and building his brand.

Yet, this year we’re all set to receive new music from Sean Kingston and he detailed what we can expect. “Basically, the album is called Deliverance,” said the singer before he began naming a list of big-time hitmakers that are set to make appearances on the record. I may have exhibited a bit too much excitement, because this is when Kingston’s publicist steps in and lets me know that that information is under wraps until a later date.

But trust me, Kingston isn’t messing around about this comeback.

The lead single from Deliverance is “Darkest Times”—a track featuring G Herbo that was teased with the help of NFL star Antonio Brown—and it arrived at the stroke of midnight Friday (May 21) morning. Prior to its release, the singer shared with us that the inspiration behind the song was drawn from personal experiences. There have been several controversies that have plagued Kingston over the years, including a few legal issues as well as a near-fatal jet-skiing accident back in 2011 that left him hospitalized for weeks and recovering for months.

“It’s basically just me explaining when I’m going through something—whenever somebody go through what they go through, trials and tribulations—[just] having somebody there as your rock and your stone,” he explained. “Being there for you through the darkest times.”

There have been plenty of opportunities for Kingston to share his story by making that step back into the spotlight, but he wanted to wait until he was ready to reemerge. Still, the question remains: Why now?

“I just feel like the time is now,” he said. “I’ve been writing a lot of music behind the scenes. I’ve been writing a lot of hits for a lot of artists…Chris Brown, Lil Mosey. I’ve been writing hits for a lot of people, but I just felt like, now is the time for me to come back, for me to tell my story again, for me to get—I just feel like the world is in such a…with COVID and everything that’s going on, they need feel-good music.”

“I’ve been writing a lot of music behind the scenes. I’ve been writing a lot of hits for a lot of artists…Chris Brown, Lil Mosey. I’ve been writing hits for a lot of people, but I just felt like, now is the time for me to come back, for me to tell my story again, for me to get— I just feel like the world is in such a…with COVID and everything that’s going on, they need feel-good music.”

And feel-good music is something that Kingston is well-versed in, with his pop hits poised for heavy streaming numbers. However, it’s obvious that Kingston isn’t the same man he was when he shared his last project, and that is something that listeners are going to experience with this next record. On Deliverance, expect to hear Kingston’s maturation both vocally and lyrically. He explained that he’s “gotten wiser with knowledge” and wants fans to hear how he’s continued to develop, even as he’s been diligently continuing his career behind the scenes.

“I’ve been around the world four or five times so I definitely understand how to conduct myself as far as moving forward when I’m writing songs or just with everything,” Kingston shared. He seemed to suggest that when he was younger, he carried a different artistic approach when it came to creating music. “It was still genuine because I have always been that type of person—but it was kind of, me rushing into things, but now, it’s very much more laid back, much more mature. My sound has matured, the way my melodies are now, everything is on a wider level.”

While Kingston is considered a veteran and icon in the industry, he still draws from advice he’s received from others that came before him. When you’re like Kingston and have a career working with the best of the best, you’re often placed in positions to receive a level of guidance that not many else can afford. There are plenty of memorable moments with influential figures housed in Sean Kingston’s memory bank, but he shared wise words he received from Jay-Z that he still follows until this day.

“I met Jay-Z in Dubai and me and Jay-Z was chopping it up and he told me, ‘No matter what you do, just keep going. Keep God first,’” Kingston recalls Hov telling him. “Just stay at it, whether it’s music or business ideas or real estate or whatever. Just keep capitalizing and becoming a better person—and I feel like that’s always stuck with me.”

With “Darkest Times” comes the official rollout season for Deliverance, but don’t expect Kingston to get extra flashy with the release of this project, even with words of wisdom from Hova in his back pocket. Humility is something that the singer holds near, and he isn’t looking to put on airs just because he may have a few plaques on his walls and awards on his shelves.

“I feel like a lot of the songs that’s coming out—no disrespect to nobody but, we wanna hear more concepts. We wanna hear more deep songs and I feel like now is the time. I just felt it. I had a talk with God and the time is now. I have a new deal with Empire and we ready to go, full force.”

“I’m just normal. I don’t really care about the jewelry. I don’t care about none of that stuff,” said the singer. “I feel like a lot of the songs that’s coming out—no disrespect to nobody but, we wanna hear more concepts,” he added. “We wanna hear more deep songs and I feel like now is the time. I just felt it. I had a talk with God and the time is now. I have a new deal with Empire and we ready to go, full force.”

A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie Is In His Feelings On “24 Hours” Ft. Lil Durk

When he isn’t being teased by his ex-girlfriend Ella Bands, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie is hard at work in the studio. In recent months, we’ve witnessed as Ella and A Boogie have traded subliminal messages about one another, but the rapper has taken a break from the relationship drama to link up with Lil Durk on “24 Hours.” The two artists spin explicit bars about their significant others while slipping in lines about the luxury lifestyles that their bank accounts afford them.

It’s believed that “24 Hours” is just the latest single that will make an appearance on A Boogie’s highly anticipated project, A Boogie vs. Artist. The rapper shared that the project was in the works back in January and is slated for release sometime this year. While we wait on more news about A Boogie’s forthcoming project, stream “24 Hours” featuring Lil Durk and let us know what you think.

Quotable Lyrics

I be tellin’ you all the things I wanna do to you
Kissin’ on the inside of your thighs, got you swimming pool
Lickin’ every hole on your body, got you shakin’ too
Like when you in control of the bed, look what you make me do
Kiss me, lick me, hug me, f*ck me, while I
Get the Maybach truck, she said, “It’s ugly, but I’ll try”

Latto Addresses Controversial Name Change On “The Biggest”

With a new name comes new music. Mulatto has long used her controversial moniker, including when she was first introduced to a global audience thanks to Jermaine Dupri’s reality series, The Rap Game. The teen hopeful ended up winning that first season all those years ago, but the name “Mulatto” haunted the rapper. After being questioned repeatedly regarding whether or not she would be switching things up, Big Latto has officially returned with a new name.

On Friday (May 21), Latto shared her latest single “The Biggest,” and on the track, she spits bars about her life in the limelight. She declares that she can’t be bullied by the public and addresses the media trying to get information about her personal life, but in the end, according to the Queen of Da Souf rapper, she remains “the biggest” force in the Rap game.

Stream “The Biggest” and let us know what you think about Latto’s latest.

Ruth B. Sings About Feelings That Won’t Fade In “Die Fast”

Ahead of the June release for Ruth B.’s second studio album, titled Moments in Between, the singer drops glossy new track “Die Fast.” “Die Fast” is the second single to be released from Moments in Between and it’s easy to see why. Ruth B. croons of a topic relatable to many, the theme of being in your feelings about a romance, or situation that is on and off.

The new release is full of clever lyrics right from the start. Ruth B. sings “It’s a never-ending story, we end up where we begin.” She sings this line amongst other lyrics with such conviction, that it’s difficult to not be hooked on her vocal delivery that compliments the minimal orchestra-heavy production– although, the production is still perhaps just as bright as her vocals are.

The complications related to love and its ups and downs are thematic throughout the song. The Canadian-born artist continues to sing of the dilemma with lyrics like “It’s a losing game, we always end up at the start.”

Ruth B. first garnered recognition for her gold certified debut studio album Safe Haven, which consists of notable songs such as “Lost Boy” and “Superficial Love.” With the release of Moments in Between, Ruth B. is also planning a tour to support the album’s release. Dates are to be announced as the album date approaches nearer.

Check out the Alberta-born singer’s last release, “Situations” here if you missed it.

Picture perfect doesn’t last
Wanna leave you in the past
My love for you just won’t die fast
My love for you just won’t die fast

RMR And Tyla Yaweh Detail The Perfect ‘Vibes’ For Their Everyday Lives

It may not feel like it, but it was more than a year ago that RMR broke the internet with his juxtaposing video for “Rascal,” the lead single off his 2020 project, Druging Dealing Is A Lost Art. Now, RMR is well-established as an artist with the hope that his second full-length project is close to arriving. Until that’s confirmed fans can enjoy the singer’s latest release, “Vibes,” a track that puts him beside Tyla Yaweh. The laid-back track finds the pair revealing what an ideal day in their lives looks like.

“Politicking in Miami, right after New York,” RMR sings. “She gon’ suck me up for breakfast / Eat me after brunch, meet me after lunch.” Later on, Yaweh submits a verse that finds him enjoying some of his own fun while promising to protect RMR from harm at all costs.

The collaboration comes after RMR kicked off the year with his 4th Quarter Medley, a four-track effort that included covers of Matchbox Twenty’s ’90s hit “3 AM” (titled “The Wishing Hour”) and Drake’s “Laugh Now Cry Later” (titled “That Was Therapeutic). Tyla Yaweh, on the other hand, hasn’t shared a project since 2019, but he saw his stock rise last year thanks to collaborations with Wiz Khalifa, Post Malone, and more.

A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie And Lil Durk Beg To See Their Lovers For ’24 Hours’

A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie is known for his ability to deliver tracks that are perfect for the club as well as efforts that are softer and a bit more intimate. Thanks to some help from Lil Durk, A Boogie arrives with another example of the latter with his new track, “24 Hours.” The melodic effort finds the two rappers pleading to see their lovers for 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The brief moments they normally share together are not enough to satisfy their cravings as their constant presence is the only thing that will keep the pair happy.

The new song is the latest in a string of releases from A Boogie after he stayed fairly quiet following the release of his last album, Artist 2.0 in 2020. Last week he teamed up with Rowdy Rebel for a cross-borough connection on their “9 Bridge” collaboration. In addition that, he also remixed Mooski’s viral track, “Track Star,” for fans to enjoy. As for Lil Durk, the Chicago rapper is readying Voice Of The Heroes, his joint project with Lil Baby, for a release in the coming weeks.

While it’s been a while since the two rappers last collaborated, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie And Lil Durk could both be found on DJ Khaled’s latest album, Khaled Khaled. The former appeared on “This Is My Year” with Big Sean, Puff Daddy, and Rick Ross while the latter starred with Lil Baby on “Every Chance I Get.”

Bktherula Unloads A Fiery Double Dose Of New Tracks With ‘Santanny’ And ‘Blue’

At just the young age of 18 years old, Bktherula has spent the last couple of years perfecting her craft as she continues to grow into adulthood. The Atlanta native is a little over six months removed from her last full-length effort, Nirvana, and today she returns with not one, but two singles for her fans to enjoy. The double dose of fiery tracks seemingly kicks off the latest chapter in her career. “Satanny” errs on the upbeat side of things as Bktherula spends its duration laying playful proclamations in the ears of listeners.

The second record, “Blue,” is a bit more bashful as it sees Bktherula taking aim at those who’ve done her wrong in the past. It also comes with a minimal, yet trippy video that’s appropriately drowned in blue lighting. The ATL native boldly raps along to the song as the room around her transforms and takes new shapes and colors. “This one day I woke up feeling so betrayed,” Bktherula said about “Blue” in a press release. “I felt insane and crazy. I didn’t know who to trust, and all I had a care for that day was money and material and how I’m gonna get it fast. It’s not a good mindstate to be in all the time, but weirdly enough, betrayal can be motivating for me.”

As for “Satanny,” the rapper said, “This song was such a non-serious, spur-of-the-moment type of thing. It’s one of those moments I’ll just laugh at for the rest of my life.”

You can press play on the videos above the hear the new tracks.

Young M.A. Pays Homage To LL Cool J With “Don Diva” Visuals

Young M.A. continues her streak of releases with the music video for a new collab, “Don Diva,” from her second studio album Off the Yak. Fellow rapper Rubi Rose accompanies Young M.A. for the single and music video that pays homage to LL Cool J’s 1996 release “Doin It.” Throughout the video, Young M.A. dons LL Cool J’s iconic blue suit in a warehouse setting, while Rubi Rose is dripped in a two-piece and an exotic dancer aesthetic.

This fire track finds Young M.A. spitting clever lines such as “She like to do her, I say do me though. Little bougie hoe I told her I’m a big dog just like Scooby though.” Over a production that slaps just as hard as Young M.A’s bars do, Rubi Rose holds her own on this banger as well. “Yeah it’s Rubi baby, tryna fuck you with the smash like I’m a goonie baby. Know you bumping all of my Tunes like a Looney baby,” Rose spits in her verse that follows Young M.A’s.

Off the Yak is Young M.A’s first full length project since Herstory in the Making, her debut album. Herstory in the Making consisted of bangers such as “Petty Wap,” “Petty Wap 2,” and “RNID.”

Young M.A. has already released four singles prior to “Don Diva.” “Off the Yak,” “Big Steppa,” “Successful,” and “Hello Baby,” are the first four singles from Off the Yak. Off the Yak is available to stream everywhere, right now.

Polo G & Lil Wayne Keep It All The Way Real On “Gang Gang”

Old school meets new school on the new collaboration from Polo G and Lil Wayne. Weezy pops up more than once today (May 21) as he’s also made an appearance on Birdman’s “Stunnaman” with Roddy Ricch, and now on Polo G’s “Gang Gang.” Last month, Polo G celebrated his “RAPSTAR” single topping the charts, and while there was some confusion regarding Murda Beatz’s involvement on the track, they seemed to have straightened away their differences.

Later, Polo G announced that his next album, Hall of Fame, was already complete, and if this is what we can expect from his forthcoming project, fans will certainly be pleased. Wayne, of course, lights things up with his additional bars, and we’re excited to hear what he has in store for us next, as well. Stream “Gang Gang” and let us know your thoughts about this united front.
