Lil Baby Crowned ASCAP’s 2021 Songwriter Of The Year

Lil Baby was one of the most popular artists in 2020, and his work over that period is still being fêted. The Atlanta rapper was recently crowned Songwriter Of The Year during the 2021 ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Award ceremony. The show highlighted “Baby” with DaBaby, “Emotionally Scarred,” “For the Night” with Pop Smoke and DaBaby, and “The Bigger Picture,” which peaked at No. 3 on the singles chart last year, as some of the songs that best showcased his writing talents.

The win comes months after some felt he was snubbed at this year’s Grammys awards. While he was nominated in the Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance categories for “The Bigger Picture,” many believed his 2020 album My Turn should have received a nomination as well. He failed to win in either of the aforementioned categories, but he did take home awards at other shows: My Turn won Hip-Hop Album of the Year at the 2021 iHeartRadio Music Awards and “The Bigger Picture” received an award at the BET Hip-Hop Awards.

According to Variety, the Atlanta rapper will also perform a new version of “The Bigger Picture” on Wednesday at 4 p.m. EST/1 p.m. PST on ASCAP’s official YouTube page.

In other news, Lil Baby and Lil Durk will hit the road starting this fall for their Back Outside tour. It begins September 1 in Mansfield, Massachusetts, and continues through October 15 in West Palm Beach, Florida.

The Gin Blossoms Are Savagely Trolling The Nuggets Ahead Of Their Concert During Game 2 Of The Western Conference Finals

One fun element of the Phoenix Suns’ postseason run is the way that they’ve added in-arena entertainment when games have taken place in their building. Arizona’s very own Jimmy Eat World had a halftime concert during the conference semifinals, while Tag Team came to Phoenix Suns Arena to remind everyone of their favorite March Madness commercial during Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals.

For Game 2 on Tuesday night, the team extended an invitation to another band from the state: Gin Blossoms. The group best known for heat rocks such as “Follow You Down” and “Hey Jealousy” announced the news earlier in the day, and even made it a point to pay tribute to legendary Suns player Charles Barkley.

Then, I don’t know if you’ve ever had plans before, but you usually have some time to kill before you go do whatever that thing is. So Gin Blossoms used the time to get into it with a fan of the Denver Nuggets, the team that the Suns took down to make it to the conference finals, by repeatedly getting off jokes about the franchise.

Because most Suns things seem to come back to this dude at this point, we even got a “SUNS IN 4” reference out of the band, although this had a slightly tweaked version of the hashtag.

I will be honest: I did not anticipate, at any point in my life, witnessing Gin Blossoms talking trash on the internet because the Phoenix Suns just swept the Denver Nuggets in the NBA playoffs. But to the victor go the spoils, so go off, Gin Blossoms.

Yung Tory Is Back With His Latest Release “Row Ya Boat”

Toronto’s Yung Tory’s ride to the top has been a long one. Though he initially jumped on many people’s radar due to his affiliation to Lil Durk and the OTF camp, he’s been embarking on his independent journey with tons of new music. He’s kept the streets filled with new music in 2020 including a collaboration with Grandtheft on “Off Day” and “Never Lonely” by Walshy Fire featuring Ebhoni.

This week, the rapper returned with his latest single, “Row Ya Boat.” Tory proves that he’s a master at creating infectious hooks through his eccentric melodies on his new single which was produced by Gara X Ndrsn.

Hopefully, the new single is a sign that Yung Tory has a new project on the way some point this year.

Lil Jairmy & EST Gee Slide On “Trust Nun”

Lil Jairmy has been buzzing across the underground over the past few years. In 2019, he unleashed Can’t Rush The Vibe and spent the entirety of 2020 flooding the streets with new bangers. The rapper’s been linking up with budding up-and-comers like 42 Dugg, and now, he teams up with EST Gee for his new single, “Trust Nun.”

The latest offering from Lil Jairmy kicks off with upbeat hi-hats the lead into the victorious orchestral strings that line up with EST Gee’s first verse. The two rappers detail loyalty and paranoia in the streets while EST Gee drops a clever Hov reference during his verse.

A video for the song was also released that features a cameo from Lil Baby who recently tapped EST Gee for “Real As It Gets.”

NAO Is Back With New Single “Messy Love”

It’s been roughly three years since the release of NAO’s last album, Saturn. The critically acclaimed album remained one of the best R&B albums of that year but a follow-up hasn’t arrived yet. The singer was living life, recently giving birth to her first child in 2020. Even still, she shared a few songs to hold fans over until she was ready to pop out again.

This week, NAO came through with her latest drop, and the second single of the year, “Messy Love.” The London singer offers a song reflecting on the hardships of relationships while emphasizing the need for self-love.

The latest release from NAO will definitely be on repeat this summer and we’re excited to hear what she has in store for the rest of the year.

I’m sayin’ goodbye
I won’t even change my mind

Vin Diesel Explains Tension With Dwayne Johnson: “It Was Tough Love”

As the latest Fast & Furious film remains the talk of Hollywood, Vin Diesel is taking a walk down memory lane. It was back in 2016 during the filming of the eighth movie when rumors spread that there was animosity on set between Vin and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. The wrestling icon-turned-acclaimed actor was taking on the role of Luke Hobbs, and after an encounter on set, he took to Instagram to call someone out.

“When you watch this movie next April and it seems like I’m not acting in some of these scenes and my blood is legit boiling — you’re right,” Johnson wrote at the time. He later told Rolling Stone that he realized he and Vin were just different people with different “philosophies,” and in a recent interview with Men’s Health, Vin Diesel is sharing his side of the story.

“It was a tough character to embody, the Hobbs character. My approach at the time was a lot of tough love to assist in getting that performance where it needed to be,” said Vin. “As a producer to say, ‘OK, we’re going to take Dwayne Johnson, who’s associated with wrestling, and we’re going to force this cinematic world, audience members, to regard his character as someone that they don’t know’ — Hobbs hits you like a ton of bricks.”

That took a lot of work. We had to get there and sometimes, at that time, I could give a lot of tough love,” he said. “Not Felliniesque, but I would do anything I’d have to do in order to get performances in anything I’m producing.” Fans weren’t completely thrilled with Vin Diesel’s assessment and made their opinions known. Is NBA Youngboy On Tyler, The Creator’s New Single?

Tyler, The Creator appears to be delivering an Album Of The Year contender this Friday with the release of Call Me If You Get Lost. The album’s due out on Friday but there’s been little information on the tracklist available. Last week, Tyler offered fans the first single off of the project, “LUMBERJACK” which included some DJ Drama drops. Tyler’s dropping bars on this project, more so than he did on IGOR. The song also seemingly hinted at a potential Drake feature which has yet to be confirmed.

It seems there’s another collaboration on this project that fans weren’t expecting and it appears on the newly released single, “Wusyaname.” Though a small teaser was shared on Tyler’s YouTube page, Twitter and Instagram pages have attempted to upload it to their platforms only to be met with copyright notices. The thing is the takedowns have also revealed that the song also includes guest vocals from Ty Dolla $ign, who is heard doing back-up vocals on the snippet, and NBA Youngboy.

“We;ve blocked the video you posted at 4:40 a.m. on Jun. 22 because it included the following content: WUSYANAME (Feat YoungBoy Never Broke Again & Ty Dollar $ign) by Tyler, The Creator,” reads a copyright notice posted to XXL’s Instagram page.

As expected, NBA Youngboy’s loyal and dedicated fanbase rejoiced at the thought of new music and made “Youngboy” trend on Twitter. The reactions largely consisted of “YB THE GOAT” tweets but there were a few that thought outside of the box. Check them out below.

Wale Announces ‘Folarin 2’ While Labeling Himself As ‘One Of The Greatest Of All Time’

Back in 2012, Wale released his eighth mixtape, Folarin, which would go on to be one of the better releases from hip-hop’s mixtape era. It was also an impressive effort in the rapper’s discography and nearly a decade later, Wale has announced its sequel is on the way. He shared the news on Twitter, along with a pretty big boast. “I understand you may feel how you feel for whatever soembody told you…but I just wanna reiterate that I’m one of the greatest of all time,” he wrote. “Catalog. Consistency. Influence. Longevity. DMV. With that said “#Folarin2” this summer.”

The arrival of Folarin 2 should be no more than a couple of months away. Recently he’s shared several singles, including “Good Vibes,” “Flawed” with Gunna, and “Lions, Bengals, & Bears” with DJ Money. Folarin 2 would also be his first project since his 2020 EP, The Imperfect Storm, and his first full-length effort since 2019’s Wow… That’s Crazy, an album that posted highlight tracks like “On Chill,” “Sue Me,” and “Love (Her Fault)” with Bryson Tiller. Prior to the announcement, Wale joined Coi Leray for a remix of Earthgang’s “Options.”

Wale is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

LeBron James Taps Drake Lyrics To Remind Critics Of King Status

This NBA season has been fraught with unexpected twists and turns, especially concerning the health of some of our favorite players. Donovan Mitchell, James Harden, Kyrie Irving, Anthony Davis, and several others have been sidelined due to injuries, and recently, LeBron James took to Twitter to air out a few frustrations with the league. According to the Los Angeles Lakers icon, officials ignored his concerns.

“They all didn’t wanna listen to me about the start of the season,” said James last week. “I knew exactly what would happen. I only wanted to protect the well being of the players which ultimately is the PRODUCT & BENEFIT of OUR GAME! These injuries isn’t just ‘PART OF THE GAME’.”

James returned with an enigmatic message earlier today (June 22) that many believe was another take about not being listened to, albeit it came in the form of Drake lyrics. It looks as if Bron tapped Drizzy’s “30 For 30 Freestyle” to help him share a few thoughts: “Never thought I’d be talkin’ from this perspective / But I’m not really sure what else you expected / When the higher-ups have all come together as a collective / With conspiracies to end my run and send me a message.

He completed his most recent tweet with a few crown-centered emojis to remind everyone who King James is. Meanwhile, NBA injuries and Ben Simmons’s performance have been the talk of the league over the last few days, but as we move forward, it’ll be interesting to see if officials publicly respond to James’s complaints.
