Blueface Wins Hearts With “On-Beat” Bars

Blueface has been an interesting artist to watch. Upon first entering the game, many were caught off-guard by his honking delivery and endearingly off-beat flow; while such qualities might have ensured failure for most, his charisma and crafty mind for amusing punchlines gave Blueface more longevity than expected.

Now, the west coast rapper has once again found his name trending, though thankfully it’s not because of any shenanigans stemming from the notorious “Blueface Mansion.” Not long ago, he delivered a verse over a remix to OG Bobby Billions and Mo3’s emotional “Outside,” which surprised listeners for a variety of reasons. For one, Blueface was touching on some genuinely powerful subject matter, a sense of vulnerability not often associated with the mischievous rabble-rouser. And two — perhaps the more notable observation — he was actually rapping on the beat.

“I ain’t pray for these baguettes, I pray for better days,” he raps. “I ain’t pray for that new ’Vette, I’d rather have my dogs back/ Lord protect me with this Tec I ain’t pray for this Patek/ Remember the day I got the text/ Another fatherless child’/ Can’t act right ’cause they left him fatherless/No hood harder than fatherhood/ Who gon’ teach your son to go farther than father did, all these kids raising all these kids.”

Many were quick to show their appreciation for Blueface’s verse on social media, leading to the rapper enjoying a brief spell as a trending topic. Though many seemed caught off guard by the rapper’s long-awaited discovery of the beat, fans were quick to point out that this isn’t exactly new territory for Bleedem, who has been steadily improving in the flow department. Check out some of the reactions below, and sound off if you’re enjoying Blueface’s new direction.

Pusha T Says He Really Wants To Write A Children’s Book But No One Will Publish It

Pusha T is currently hard at work on the follow up to his 2018 LP Daytona. The rapper has confidently said the 12-track effort is his bid for the “best album that drops in 2021.” But the upcoming album isn’t the only project Pusha wants to be working on. In fact, he’s apparently always dreamed of becoming a children’s book author.

Pusha first shared the news in response to a fan’s tweet about playing his Clipse song “Keys Open Doors” for their two-year-old kid. The rapper replied with, “Thanx and I’ve been trying to write a children’s book for years…they won’t publish me…”

One fan offered a theory as to why Pusha has a hard time securing a book contract. “It’s because you’ve used too many regular items as drug references,” they wrote.

Pusha had a simple response, writing: “A simple metaphor can be the death of you…”

If Pusha T did in fact end up securing a book contract, he wouldn’t be the first rapper to write a children’s book. Earlier this year, Lil Nas X unveiled his illustrated ABC picture book C Is For Country. It featured lines like “S is for swag. Just ’cause I’m going to bed doesn’t mean I can’t look good!” and “A is for Adventure. Every day is a brand new start!” In less than a month, the book landed on the New York Times’ best-sellers list. So if Pusha really is committed to children’s literature, he already has some stiff competition.

EarthGang Prep “Ghetto Gods” With “Aretha”

EarthGang’s Ghetto Gods is on the way, and the Dreamville duo has come through to release “Aretha,” a new single from the upcoming project. Setting the tone is a bouncy and minimalist instrumental from Yudu Gray and Johnny Venus, who also has the honor of handling the opening verse. “‘Options’ dropped, barely made a sound, damn,” he spits. “I guess we let Nas and Cole down / Quarter mil’ was the bill, toughen your skin up / Failure is artist development.”

And that’s only the opening scheme, as Olu proceeds to fire off an incredible verse; though his rapid-fire flow is impressive in itself, the lyrics are what really shine. Dot picks up where he left off, catching a slick pocket. “Wish a ni*ga would, can’t wait to shoot / still fuck 12 and Dylann Roof,” he raps. “More verses, less interviews / This what I’m addicted to, this all I’m committed to.”

Check out the Gang’s “Aretha,” a promising sign of what’s to come on Ghetto Gods, and sound off with your thoughts in the comments below.

QUOTABLE LYRICS

And you know, we all smoked some weed
Right before our eyes, they makin’ billions off of green
Black folks blowin’ smoke and we still ain’t feel seen
There’s people still locked up for life since seventeen
They say, “‘Lu, I ain’t no rapper, so you gotta say it for me
I ain’t no actor but you gotta tell my story”
And all of these feelings you got on your chest
You should get it off now ‘fore we lay you to rest

Skillibeng & Trackone Connect On “Patience”

It’s about to be a hot summer and it seems like we’ll have Skillibeng serving as the soundtrack for the months to come. The Jamaican dancehall artist has been one of the hottest in the scene with collaborations alongside Rich The Kid and more to show for it. Last week, his smash record “Crocodile Teeth” became his first single to chart on the Billboard Hot 100, thanks to the official remix with Nicki Minaj that was released along with the DSP version of Beam Me Up Scotty.

As Skillibeng continues to ride high, he returned with a brand new banger this week titled, “Patience.” The new record from the dancehall sensation includes an appearance from Trackone. The two artists celebrate their cash flow and the success they’ve witnessed in recent times over hard-hitting dancehall production.

Quotable Lyrics
Every choppa have big dreams
When the bloodclat chappa dem speak, shee
Giant client, light up my weed
Den mi shub on mi eye glass
Wells Fargo we use, why not?

Wiz Khalifa Responds To Rosenberg’s Apology Over Amber Rose Split

Celebrity break-ups can often be messy but Wiz and Amber Rose are constantly spotted doing activities together with their 8-year-old son on the ‘Gram. The couple divorced a few years ago but clearly, they’re happily co-parenting Bash. Rumors began swirling on the Internet about what ended up causing their split and Peter Rosenberg seemingly exasperated the situation when he revealed personal details about a private affair.

This morning, Wiz joined Ebro In The Morning where Rosenberg offered a public apology to Wiz. He explained that, at the time, he felt like he was being a solid friend, especially since he has a tight-knit relationship with Rose. He admitted that he overstepped the boundaries and “did not handle that right,” which gave Wiz a good chuckle. “I could’ve been a supportive friend and not be a dickhead to you,” said Rosenberg.

“I appreciate the apology, man. At the time, that was very, very one-sided and it was fucked up, bro,” he said. “For me, I’m your homie, you know what I’m sayin’? If it’s an issue like that, we talk. You got on the radio and told one side of a story as soon as it happened… You have a platform and that does stuff to other people with platforms, as well. I usually don’t take stuff like that personally, but that was very personal. And, I’mma man and I’m able to get over it too because we’re all in great spaced right now.”

Ultimately, it’s water under the bridge for the rapper and radio personality. “I feel like we’re able to move past that and never touch on it ever again,” Wiz said.

One BAL Player Thinks J. Cole Being On A Roster Is ‘Disrespectful To The Game’

J. Cole’s professional basketball career has been, for lack of a better term, pretty modest. As a player for Patriots Basketball Club in the inaugural season of the Basketball Africa League, Cole has scored five points in three games. He’s looked like, well, a person playing professional basketball for the first time, although he does certainly have some skill on the court.

The biggest thing Cole’s done is bring attention to the league, although for one player, that trade-off is not worth it. Terrell Stoglin, a guard for AS Salé who averages 31 points per game, certainly sees the benefit of “a lot of attention, and, I guess, money” coming in because of Cole, but generally thinks he is disrespecting the game.

Via ESPN:

“I think there’s a negative and a positive [to J. Cole’s presence],” Stoglin told ESPN. “The negative part of it is: I think he took someone’s job that deserves it.

“I live in a basketball world. I don’t live in a fan world. I know a lot of guys that had their careers stopped by COVID and they’re still home working out and training for an opportunity like this.

“For a guy who has so much money and has another career to just come here and average, like, one point a game and still get glorified is very disrespectful to the game. It’s disrespectful to the ones who sacrificed their whole lives for this.”

Patriots chief operating officer Haydee Ndayishimiye unsurprisingly disagrees with this assessment — “We made a basketball decision which can be justified by our performance so far,” she said — but it is fair to point out that someone who has put their life towards playing ball professionally lost out on an opportunity to someone who recently started pursuing a basketball career. Still, the only rule is it has to work, and the brain trust with Patriots seem to be happy with Cole’s performance on the floor.

Migos Labelmate Metro Marrs Arrested After Throwing 10K Into Crowd At Graduation

Metro Marrs is one of Quality Control Music’s latest signees. He signed to the imprint late last year in a joint deal with the label Since the 80s after generating considerable buzz on his own. The teenager seems to have a lot to commemorate recently. He just celebrated his 18th birthday and graduated from Langston Hughes High School on Friday (May 21)–the same school the likes of other famed Atlanta artists like Summer Walker, Gunna, and Playboi Carti attended.

Obviously in the celebratory spirit, the “Bye Felecia” artist made it rain $10k in cash at his graduation ceremony. While it earned him a loud ovation from the crowd, police officers and his school administrators were not so amused.

In the now-viral footage, Marrs can be seen crossing the stage. Deciding to go out with a bang, he then pulled out wads of cash from his pants and sprayed the crowd with the bills, much to the amusement of his fellow grads. The crowd went into a frenzy as they reached up their hands to grab the green bills falling from the sky.

While the grads were ecstatic, school officials were not feeling it. You can see several of them get out of their seats to reprimand the excited 18-year-old labelmate of Migos, Lil Yachty, and the City Girls. Despite this, he continued making it rain until he threw around $10k in total.

Cops arrived to escort the young rapper out of the ceremony and we’re told after he was arrested, he was held for a couple of days. TMZ also reports that he was detained for inciting a riot and disorderly conduct and was ticketed for it.

His management took to his social media over the weekend to update fans on the situation. “#freeme y’all tag [The Shade Room] in the comments,” wrote someone from his team with a laughing emoji. “#classof2021 I love yallll!! (This his management team) #freemetro he will get out in a couple of hours.”

Overall, it seems like the QC signee is taking the minor run-in with law enforcement in stride. Congrats to Metro Marrs on graduating!

42 Dugg Reveals His Reaction To Future Referencing Steve Harvey

It seems that every time Future steps out with a guest verse, there’s something said to grab headlines. Mind you, his personal life has frequently been publicized but his music is where he addresses it. The rapper’s relationship with Steve Harvey’s daughter, Lori, wasn’t something that people expected but 2020 was a year full of surprises.

Last week, their relationship returned to headlines after a collaboration with Future and 42 Dugg leaked online. “Maybach,” off of Dugg’s Free Dem Boyz, became an immediate highlight off of the project if only because Future raps, “Tell Steve Harvey I don’t want her.”

Dugg recently was at The Breakfast Club where he was asked about that line in particular. Charlamagne Tha God asked Dugg about his first reaction to the record. “It’s going down,” recalled Dugg as the room erupted into laughter. “I wanted him to say that shit two more times. See if he could say it right here, you know what I’m sayin’?”

Dugg said that he was well-aware of how it would be turned into a headline but as the saying goes: there’s no such thing as bad publicity. “I was lovin’ it,” he added before Charlamagne asked him if he’s even a fan of Family Feud. “Man, not at all. Future knew too, though. He knew. Future a bad mothafucka. We shot the video, he changed his clothes 6 times… He made me change my clothes.”
