Meek Mill Has Words About Kanye West’s Upcoming Album

Kanye West is in album release mode, playing his upcoming tenth studio album at a private event in Las Vegas this weekend. The music legend’s next body of work will reportedly feature Travis Scott, Future, Baby Keem, Lil Baby, Playboi Carti, Griselda, and more. The cover artwork appears to have been leaked and those that have heard the album have extensive praise for it. Among those commenting on the new music, many are saying that it pushes the boundaries of Ye’s previous production catalog, possibly making for one of his best albums yet. Obviously, that much has thousands of hip-hop fans excited to hear the final version.

As we wait for more information on the release of the album, Instagram personality Justin LaBoy, whom Kanye played the album for, claims that it will be dropping this week. “His name is @kanyewest & this week he’s dropping another classic album,” wrote LaBoy on a recent post, writing that Kanye “kills” every beat, hook, and verse.

In the comments to the post, people have been offering alternate answers to the theoretical question posed by LaBoy, including many saying that Lil Baby and Drake are also appropriate names for that situation. Meek Mill also slid into the comments though, and he appeared to state his displeasure over Kanye’s upcoming new album.

“Big cap,” wrote Meek, seemingly devaluing Justin LaBoy’s claims about Kanye dropping a classic album.

It’s unclear if his comment was directed at Kanye, or if he simply didn’t read the caption, which mentions the legend. However, the two do have some differences stemming from a meeting between Meek and Kim Kardashian last year. The two met to discuss criminal justice reform and you may recall, Kanye tweeted that he wanted a divorce from Kim ever since her meeting with the rapper, implying that their meeting was about more than just reform.

Check out the post below, and Meek’s comment underneath.

Ty Dolla Sign And 070 Shake Reflect On Once In A ‘Lifetime’ Loves With Swedish House Mafia

EDM supergroup Swedish House Mafia returned earlier this year with a new single, “It Gets Better,” and the announcement that they’d be releasing their debut studio album Paradise Again in late 2021 — their first project since 2012 compilation Until Now. Today, they released the latest single from the upcoming project, “Lifetime,” which features R&B futurists Ty Dolla Sign and 070 Shake reflecting on once-in-a-lifetime lovers over a pulsating production from the Stockholm-based trio.

Debuting the song on Apple Music 1, the trio told Zane Lowe: “This was the time where we sat down and we were just throwing ideas at each other of what kind of music we like, and this is boiling everything down to like, ‘What did we feel?’”

070 Shake, who sings the song’s electrifying chorus, returns after a year of near radio silence in the wake of her debut album Modus Vivendi. SHM member Steve Angello said of working with her, “We’ve never experienced an artist like her. She’s so far away from formula, but she’s right at the center of youth and we just love her, the energy, the vibe she has, the artistic integrity — everything about her is so unique… we would put her on every single record we did. She’s incredible.”

Of Ty Dolla Sign, Sebastian Ingrosso said, “We love Ty Dolla Sign. We loved him from the very, very beginning. We actually talked to him kind of 10 years ago doing something because he did a remix of ‘One’ that came out on YouTube, I think, something like that. So we always had Ty Dolla Sign in mind.”

Soulja Boy Finally Drops “She Make It Clap” Remix Ft. French Montana

We’re supposedly a week away from the release of Soulja Boy’s new album, Draco. It will be his first project to be released under his deal with Virgin Music. The rapper’s been unloading new singles on a weekly basis with hopes that at least one of them will propel to Billboard success like “She Make It Clap.”

Soulja Boy is keeping the song’s momentum up with a brand new remix that he unveiled earlier today featuring French Montana. The two debuted the record at Verzuz with Bow Wow to build the anticipation. Soulja’s original verse remains intact while French comes through with references to KimYe’s split, Travis Scott and Kylie Jenner’s reunion, and Mayweather-Paul’s fight.

Soulja previously hinted at a remix with Nicki Minaj, though it’s possible that he’s saving that for the release of Draco.

Kanye West Album Release Party In Atlanta May Have Revealed “Donda” Cover Art

The rollout is in full effect for Kanye West, who continues to mysteriously tease his tenth studio album. Holding a secret listening party in Las Vegas this weekend, hundreds of fans and music journalists got a chance to hear Kanye’s upcoming new album, which reportedly features Travis Scott, Baby Keem, Future, Lil Baby, Griselda, and more

Apparently, that wasn’t the only release party that Kanye has planned for this era. There are invites being sent for an upcoming event at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on June 22, which seemingly includes the potential album cover for Donda, which is expected to release this week. Although it was initially believed that the design was made by North West, it was later revealed that Louise Bourgeois is the artist behind the cover. She started making art to work through the trauma of losing her mother at a young age, and one of her most famous pieces has been transformed and remixed into Kanye’s artwork.

Justin LaBoy, whom Kanye played the album for this weekend, says the project will be released this week and it’s a “classic.”

In addition to his own new music on the way, Kanye West has a producer credit on Lil Nas X’s next single “Industry Baby,” working alongside Take A Daytrip for the upcoming record.

Styles P Says He’s “F*cking Somebody Up” At The LOX & Dipset Verzuz

August 3rd will determine who the biggest crew out of New York City is — Dipset or The LOX. It’s a massive return to the big stage for both collectives but things have been heating up in recent times. Styles P and Jim Jones have been exchanging shots online recently. Styles declared that Dipset can’t outrap them before Jim Jones fired back, proclaiming that he’ll be smoking on The LOX pack at Verzuz.

The hilarious exchange kept social media eventful over the weekend but it’s extending into a new week since Styles P has made it clear that things are “on site when I catch that n***a.” And no, he’s not talking about anyone from Dipset. The rapper took to Instagram where he expressed his concern about Jim Jones’ recent banter which P said is a result of laced weed.

“On August 3rd, I’m fucking somebody up. And physically, I mean. I’m gonna tell you why I’m fuckin’ somebody up physically,” he said. “This is getting really out of hand and I’m pissed off and I’m gettin’ upset because I love Jim Jones. I don’t know who is lacing this n***a’s weed! When I find the n***a lacing Jim Jones’ weed, I’m fuckin’ you up.”

P explained that he concluded the recent commentary from the Dipset rapper is likely a result of smoking something more than cannabis. “I love Jim Jones. Who lacing this n***a’s shit? Why they doin’ Capo like that, man?!” He added. “As I thought about it, I said ‘somebody’s lacin’ Capo’s weed, man. This n***a talkin’ crazy.'”

Of course, this is partially due to Jones challenging all three members of Dipset to a pull-up challenge and the overall braggadocious nature of the Harlem collective. In a separate post, Styles made it clear that he can still lift wait and proved so by carrying a 255 lbs. man on his back.

“Just making sure this 170 pound plant based frame can carry @jimjonescapo out the garden after multiple joints n a few drinks after we finish them boys,” he wrote in the caption. “he my brothers so I at least want to be to carry him out the garden on my back .. by the 3rd I may be able to get him to at least 57th st st on Cge back. I’m a little rusty when it come to carrying and dumping big fellas on they back but I should be good by the 3rd!!!!!”

Hip-Hop Dominates Billboard’s Highest-Paid Artists In 2020

2020 was a year unlike any other. In the music industry, recording artists needed to be resourceful in how they approached their finances, no longer able to depend on touring to pad their bank accounts. Instead, music’s biggest moneymakers focused mostly on streaming and other forms of revenue to make their money during the pandemic.

Billboard has officially released its list of the highest-paid music artists in 2020, which shows how hip-hop has dominated as a genre in the last year. Some of the names on the list are expected, and others will come as a surprise.

Kevin Mazur/Getty Images

For starters, Taylor Swift reportedly earned $23.8 million in 2020, splitting funds evenly from sales and streaming and also making $3 million from publishing. Post Malone was the second-highest earner, making over $8 million from streaming, $700K from sales, and over $12 million from touring. Céline Dion earned the third spot, making much of her fortune from touring.

Billie Eilish also made the list with $14.7 million in fifth place, and Drake slid behind her with $12.2 million.

Perhaps most surprisingly, YoungBoy Never Broke Again made his debut on the list, cranking in $11.9 million last year with much of that coming from streaming. He was placed right after The Beatles. With $11.7 million, Lil Baby came in at No. 10.

Narrowly missing the Top 10 were The Weeknd, Eminem, Lil Uzi Vert, DaBaby, Bad Bunny, Future, and more.

Lil Nas X Lampoons His Nike Trial In The Trailer For His Jack Harlow-Featuring Single ‘Industry Baby’

Lil Nas X continues to be one of music’s most creatively hilarious trolls as he prepares to go to trial in Nike’s copyright infringement case against him. After tweeting a string of sarcastic jokes about going to jail, he shared a “livestream” of the proceedings to social media… which actually turned out to be a clever courtroom comedy sketch in which he plays a variety of characters, including a sugar daddy judge, a talkative juror, his own forgetful defense attorney, and a ruthless prosecutor.

As Lil Nas X takes the stand against himself, the prosecutor declares that “this is about much more than shoes” before asking, “Lil Nas X, are you gay?” “What does that have to do with the shoes?” Nas shoots back. “Let me rephrase the question,” he says as the prosecutor. “Do your mama know you’re gay?” Nas has no choice but to answer, “Yes.” For this “crime,” the “judge” sentences Nas to “five years in Montero Prison.” This by itself would be a hilarious lampoon of several of the debates surrounding Nas since his arrival with “Old Town Road,” but being Lil Nas X, he uses the opportunity to flip the script one last time.

The whole sketch turns out to be the trailer for his next single, “Industry Baby” featuring Jack Harlow and produced by Kanye West and Take A Daytrip. A snippet of the song plays over the credits, which wonders, “Damn, how many roles do this n**** got?” Considering his ability to transform from a cowboy to a demented Santa to the devil, I would say: “All of them.”

Watch Lil Nas X’s “Industry Baby” trailer above. Pre-save the song, dropping July 29, here.

Swedish House Mafia Tap 070 Shake & Ty Dolla $ign For “Lifetime”

Though the last time they actively released new music was in 2013, the Swedish House Mafia are back, having recently inked a new deal with Republic Records. Now, shortly after dropping the single “It Gets Better” last week, the group has kept their foot on the gas with another release, this time alongside 070 Shake and Ty Dolla $ign.

Ahead of their upcoming album release, Swedish House Mafia linked up with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, where they discussed their vibey new collaboration. “[070 Shake] is right at the center of youth and we just love her,” explains SHM’s Steve Angello. “The energy, the vibe she has, the artistic integrity, everything about her is so unique, you know?”

They also praised the talents of Ty Dolla $ign, who has proven himself to be one of the game’s most versatile and beloved melodists. “When we wrote this song, we said, “Ty would be perfect for this because he has that grittiness in his voice that, first of all, all the ladies like a lot,” praises Sebastian Ingrosso. “And also, Swedish House Mafia likes a lot.”

Check out “Lifetime” now, and look for more music to emerge now that Swedish House Mafia are in the midst of a full-scale comeback.

Scarface Reveals He Had Nas Rewrite A Verse Because Of Jay-Z Diss

In a matter of weeks, we got two collaborations including back-to-back verses from Jay-Z and Nas. Once was on DJ Khaled’s new album and the other, on DMX’s posthumous album Exodus. A decade and a half prior, no one would’ve ever expected either of them to be on the same track together. Their intense feud throughout the 2000s is remembered as one of the most iconic beefs in hip-hop. However, bipartisan collaborators took a risk when working with either party.

Scarface and Nas locked in for the record, “In Between Us” off of The Fix. Though fans have grown to love the collaboration between the Houston OG and the East Coast legend, Scarface revealed that Nas’ verse was re-written. During a recent appearance on Drink Champs, Scarface revealed that he was forced to ask Nas to do another verse as the original take contained vile subliminal shots at Jay-Z.

“And Nas, the first verse he took, was some of the stuff he laid down on ‘Ether.’ Some of those lyrics. I hope your wife cook your food with her period blood or something, you know,” Scarface recalled as N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN were taken aback by the visuals of that bar.

“He said that on ‘In Between Us’ and I was like, ‘Nah, Nas. We can’t go at cuz like that, you know. Not on here,'” Scarface continued. “Nas went at Jay on that record.”

Scarface said he can’t recall the specific bars aimed towards HOV but he admitted Nas “went off.” “He went back and did a whole other verse and it was, you know, it was clean. It was just as dope,” he said.

N.O.R.E. asked whether Scarface ever felt that he had to court any drama between Jay and Nas at the time. He explained that, regardless of what was happening between them, he had no need to involve himself in any drama.

“I watch the bombs fly over here but I don’t never reach in and grab one. That ain’t where I’m at,” he said. “I’m not in there. Like, don’t fuckin’ put me in that shit. If y’all squabblin’, my n***a, then let me stay where I’m at. I got my own lane.”
