Dreamville Festival Boasts $6.7 Million Impact On Local Economy

J. Cole and the rest of Dreamville have announced that they’ve generated over $6.7 million in direct economic impact to the local Raleigh and Wake County community, as a result of the recent Dreamville Festival. which was held earlier this spring. The figure factors only for tourism economic impact, meaning new money coming into the region’s local economy.

The event, which saw a combined attendance of 80,000, featured performances from WizKid, Lil Baby, Kehlani, Wiz Khalifa, Wale, T-Pain, and more. Additionally, many of Dreamville’s own including Cole, J.I.D, Ari Lennox, and EarthGang also took the stage.

“My team and I continue to be awed by the overwhelming support we’ve received since closing out the second Dreamville Festival this April. But to now fully realize the festival’s positive impact on the local economy and tourism, it truly is unbelievable,” Dreamville Partner and Festival President Adam Roy said in a press release. “We are grateful for our fans who traveled across the U.S. and internationally to attend the fest, as well as for those from the City of Raleigh and Wake County who helped bring this event together. Our Dreamville team looks forward to furthering its investments in the community for years to come, especially as we plan for the festival’s return in spring 2023.”

Dennis Edwards, President and CEO of Visit Raleigh, added: “The increase in economic impact and attendance over this year’s two-day festival is gratifying to see after the pandemic hindered the previously sold-out event from taking place the last couple of years. The successful turnout for Dreamville Festival reiterates that events and travel are back in our area and the demand is still prevalent.”

Dreamville Festival began in 2019, before having to go on a hiatus as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

2023 festival dates are expected to be announced later this year.

Steph Curry Reveals His Thoughts On Facing The Celtics In The FInals

Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors are poised to get their fourth championship this season. In order to get that honor, they will need to knock off the Boston Celtics who pose a serious threat to the Warriors’ dynasty. The Celtics have an incredible defense and it isn’t going to be easy for the Warriors to do what they’ve been doing all playoffs long.

During media availability on Monday, Curry spoke about the matchup against the Celtics and what he’s expecting from it all. As you can see down below, Curry recognizes that it is going to be a difficult series, however, he still thinks his team matches up nicely. After all, the Warriors have all of the experience in the world.

“We like the matchup in terms of just confidence going in, knowing that we can win but there’s obvious respect in terms of what they present as a team,” Curry said.

The Warriors have been to the NBA Finals six times in the last eight seasons, so they know what to expect. Meanwhile, the Celtics are a hungry team that wants to prove to the league that they can get stuff done when it matters.

The NBA Finals start Thursday, so let us know who you think is going to win, in the comments below.

Asian Doll Suggests The Game Copied Her Album Title & Release Date

The Game’s been teasing his new album, Drillmaticfor months now. Plenty of rappers, like G Herbo, have said the West Coast veteran’s next body of work will stand among the best albums of the year. Thus far, we’ve received “Eazy” with Kanye West, which continues to ring off on radio. With a June 17th release date set, fans are curious to hear what the Compton rapper’s cooked up with Hit-Boy.

The release of The Game’s forthcoming album bears some similarities to Asian Doll, apparently. The self-proclaimed Queen Of Drill shared her thoughts on The Game’s Drillmatic in a since-deleted tweet where she suggested that the Compton MC copied her. “Not The Game dropping on my day & his shit called ‘drillmatic’ & my shit called ‘Lets Do A Drill,'” she wrote with four laughing emojis. “WTF.”

At this point, The Game hasn’t responded to Asian Doll’s tweet but it seems doubtful that he intentionally announced the same release date as her.

It’s been nearly two years since Asian Doll released a project. In 2020, she unveiled her EP, Doll DZN Reloaded which included a collab with King Von. Since then, she’s delivered a handful of singles and collaborations leading up to the release of her upcoming project.

ASAP Rocky Wants His And Rihanna’s Children To ‘Never Lose Their Imagination’

ASAP Rocky and Rihanna welcomed a baby boy last month. Ahead of the birth, Rocky spoke with Dazed about Rihanna (whom he calls the “love of my life”), new music, and how he envisions his and Rih’s family.

When speaking on his children, Rocky revealed hopes that his future children are just as creative and imaginative as their parents.

“I will always remind my children to never lose their imagination, even as adults, no matter what,” Rocky said. “I actually love to watch cartoons — I’ve watched, like, Teletubbies, Blue’s Clues, Yo Gabba Gabba, Peppa Pig, and Baby Shark. I hope to raise open-minded children. Not people who discriminate. And I’m not trying to describe a saint, but realistically, I just want a cool child with cool parents.”

Though the two only confirmed their romance last year, Rocky and Rihanna have collaborated on projects for over a decade. Rocky recruited Rih to appear in his 2013 music video for “Fashion Killa,” and both of them have been praised for their innovative sense of fashion.

When asked about their iconic looks and sense of individualism in fashion, Rocky said, “I think it’s just natural. We happen to look good together naturally. You know, it would take a lot of work to have us forcefully match before we leave the house. Sometimes we match to a T, or we just wear the same clothes. If I buy a shirt that she likes, I expect to get it stolen… but then I gotta steal it back.”

Kanye West Asked Aaron Donald To Be In One Of His Videos But The NFL Star Refused

Kanye West is always trying something new and one of his latest ventures is Donda Sports, a marketing agency to represent athletes. Donda Sports recently bagged a major signee, as eight-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Aaron Donald is now on board. The NFL star recently made the reveal and noted that he actually turned down the chance to be in one of his new boss’ music videos.

In a recent episode of the I Am Athlete podcast (as USA Today notes), Donald said of Ye, “He’s cool, man. He’s real cool, a cool dude. Got to talk a little bit. Vibe. Was at one of his video shoots. He actually wanted me to get in one of the videos, but I was like, ‘Nah.’ I was out of my element. But he was cool. He seemed cool. Real cool guy.”

He also noted of the Donda Sports signing, “It was an opportunity that came to us, me and [my wife], and it made sense. And hearing the whole spectrum of everything that’s going on and what they were going to be bringing, the family atmosphere that they got in Donda Sports. Not just me, but my wife being a part of that. For me, it was a no-brainer.”

Cedric The Entertainer Recalls Freestyling His Skit On Jay-Z’s “Threat”

Cedric The Entertainer, who was among the star-studded list of contributors on Jay-Z’s legendary project, The Black Album, says that he freestyled his skit on the track, “Threat.” Cedrick recalled working on the song during a recent appearance on William “Fuzzy” West and Quincy Harris’ FAQ Podcast

The comedian says that the collaboration came about after he had run into Jay-Z in New York City and asked if he could pull up to the studio to get a behind-the-scenes look at his process.

“It was random,” he explained. “I was in there, watching him do his thing. The Black Album was his last album so I pitched him an idea. He was on his way out and I was like, ‘Yo man, I’ve been having this funny idea of doing the Beverly Hills Cop thing with you.’”

He continued: “He was like, ‘Oh, that’s funny. I like that. But I’m working on this song called ‘Threats’ that I need somebody just threatening people on.’ I was like, ‘Aiight!’ So then he left and it was me and [Young] Guru. I just went in there and freestyled that shit! Just was making it up, having a good time.”

He explained that he didn’t think Jay-Z would actually use the audio he recorded, but later got a call from the rapper confirming that he was going to be included on The Black Album.

“That was a crazy call,” he remembered. “He was like, ‘Yo Ced, what’s up? This shit made the album, the ‘Threats’ shit.’ I was like, ‘What the hell?! I’ma be on The Black Album, n***a?!’ That shit was legendary, dawg. That was one of those fucking dope-ass moments.”

Cedric has also provided skits on Nelly’s Country Grammar and Bun B’s Trill OG.
