Kelly Rowland Says Destiny’s Child Would Never “Play With Anybody” Regarding A Reunion

Kelly Rowland says that Destiny’s Child would never “play with anybody” when asked about hinting at a potential reunion for the iconic pop group. Rowland’s comments came during a new interview with Entertainment Tonight.

Rumors that the group would be releasing new music together gained steam most recently after Destiny’s Child changed their Twitter and Facebook header photos, last year.

“We love everybody so much that we wouldn’t toy with it, but I do think that… you would deserve a surprise,” Rowland shared. “I feel like everything is just so planned so we see it before it happens and we see the process right after it happens.”

She continued: “It’s just a lot, like, we deserve spontaneity, we desire to be surprised and I would hope Destiny’s Child would be a pleasant surprise.”

Shortly after rumors began to flare up, Beyoncé’s father, Mathew Knowles, shot down the idea.

“It was just a random, normal social media-type update,” he told TMZ.

While the group hasn’t released an album together since 2004’s Destiny Fulfilled, Rowland, Beyoncé, and Michelle Williams have reunited for live performances at the 2013 Super Bowl halftime show and 2018 Coachella festival.

Outside of music, Rowland recently released the children’s book, Always With You, Always With Me, and is set to appear in the upcoming film, Fantasy Football.

Ja Morant’s Dad Calls Out His Son For Playing “Like Trash”

Ja Morant’s father, Tee Morant, had some tough love for his son when asked about his performance during the Memphis Grizzlies’ 4-2 series win against the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round of the NBA Playoffs. Tee referred to Ja’s game as “trash” on Friday.

“Ja played like trash,” Tee said. “Yeah, trash.”

“told y’all,” Ja responded to the viral clip on Twitter.

Despite his father’s criticism, Ja finished the first-round series averaging 21.5 points, 10.5 assists, 8.7 rebounds, and 1.5 steals in 37.1 minutes per game. The feat made Ja only the second player in NBA history to average at least 20 PPG, 8 RPG, and 10 APG in a playoff series lasting six or more games. Magic Johnson is the only other player to do so.

Ja has spoken out about his father’s tough love before, remarking during the 2019 NBA Draft that his dad was his “first hater.”

“I really like the negative energy,” Morant said at the time. “He hasn’t played against nobody, he’s too small, he can’t shoot. I love negative energy, it motivates me. It really doesn’t bother me, because my dad was my first hater, so if I could take it from him, I can take it from anybody.”

The Memphis Grizzlies will take on the Golden State Warriors in the Western Conference Semifinals starting on Sunday.

Earl Sweatshirt Says Joe Budden Is Still Upset Over His “Loiter Squad” Impression: “He’s Tight”

Earl Sweatshirt says that Joe Budden is still upset over his impression of him on Loiter Squad, back in 2014. The viral skit featured Earl dressed as Budden, who was being divorced by his own beard. Earl spoke about his relationship with Budden during an appearance on Desus & Mero on Thursday.

“He’s tight about that, right?” Desus asked the Sick! rapper.

“He’s tight. He’s not letting it go, bro!” Earl remarked, adding, “Bro, fuck with me, bro! … This your twin, bro.”

Earl and Budden recently traded shots after the release of Earl’s latest album, Sick!, which Budden refused to listen to.

“Is [Earl] on Tyler’s last album?” Budden asked rhetorically on his podcast back in January. “Is he on Tyler’s album before that album? How about the one before that one? All right, yo. Forget it. But you expect me to listen to it. [His] man won’t call him to come to the fucking studio. Yo, when your man stop inviting you to the studio, you’re not getting me to listen to what you’re doing. Sorry, that’s like a rule of thumb for me.”

He continued: “Hell no, I ain’t hear that bullshit! And I’ll tell you what, I’m never gonna hear ’em! I am never gonna hear that. I don’t care. That shit could be Thriller. When would I put that on?”

Earl responded to the criticism on Twitter, shortly afterward.

Pete Davidson Jokes About Kanye West During Return To Stand-Up

Pete Davidson reportedly joked about his girlfriend, Kim Kardashian’s ex, Kanye West while performing a stand-up set on Thursday. Davidson took the stage at Netflix Is A Joke: The Festival at the Hollywood Bowl.

Davidson started off his act by saying that he initially believed West when the rapper began spreading the rumor that Davidson has AIDS, because West is a genius. He also discussed how “weird” it has been not being able to do anything about it.

In addition to spreading rumors about Davidson, West also threatened Davidson in the track “Eazy,” which the Saturday Night Live star reportedly found “hysterical.”

“He finds the fact that Kanye included a cartoon version of him in his music video hysterical,” a source told Entertainment Tonight at the time. “He is almost flattered by it all because it is so ridiculous to him.”

Later in his stand-up routine, Davidson spoke about Jack Harlow collaborating with West, remarking that he’s not upset about it, despite being friends with Harlow. He joked that if Bill Burr were to work with West, that would warrant a different response.

Davidson’s return to stand up comes after a long stretch of focusing on his acting career. He recently starred in the upcoming films Bodies Bodies Bodies, and Good Mourning, which are releasing later this year.

Davidson’s appearance for Netflix Is A Joke, comes as tensions between West and himself have eased in the public eye. Entertainment Tonight reports that West has been focusing on his mental health as of late.

“Kanye has been laying low and focusing on healing. He is trying to disconnect from all the drama that happened between him and Kim,” a source told the outlet. “He is focused on taking care of himself, getting healthier, and removing himself from all the craziness. He cares deeply about his family and kids. They are his number one priority and he’s working on himself.”

Kelly Rowland Said Destiny’s Child Would Never ‘Play With Anybody’ With Reunion Teasers

Practically ever since the group broke up, Destiny’s Child fans have been dying for the girl group to reunite. But after they actually did during Beyonce’s rather infamous Coachella headlining set, the hopefulness has been increased exponentially. And maybe after seeing the reaction to their return to the stage, this trio is actually considering a tour. In a new interview with Entertainment Tonight about her new children’s book, Always With You, Always With Me, Kelly Rowland was put on the spot about the group, and though she’s an expert at dodging the question, still had at least a few things to say about it.

“We love everybody so much that we wouldn’t toy with it, but I do think that… you would deserve a surprise,” she said. “I feel like everything is just so planned so we see it before it happens and we see the process right after it happens. It’s just a lot, like, we deserve spontaneity, we desire to be surprised and I would hope Destiny’s Child would be a pleasant surprise.”

So, this is a Beyonce self-titled level of secrecy and when it drops we’ll all be that shocked? Is that what she said? Or was it just a coy brushoff… Well now that Kelly is done with this book, maybe it’s time to get back onstage.

Gorillaz Debuted Two New Songs At Their Tour Opener, Including A Thundercat Collaboration

The Gorillaz are very well-known at this point for collaborating with some of the best and brightest artists around, so it’s never any surprise when they add another joint track to their already impressive discography. All these frequent collabs also make for a great live show when Gorillaz do perform, because a lot of times, different artists will come out and perform their hits alongside the band. Well, that wasn’t quite the case last night, but fans did get the chance to catch a new track for the first time — this one a collaboration with renowned bassist and R&B star Thundercat.

During a set at the Antel Arena in Montevideo, Uruguay, the band performed the new song and projected footage of Thundercat playing alongside them. Last night was the kick off for Gorillaz’ new world tour, and they played another new song as well, this one called “Silent Running.” Check out footage of the Thundercat collab both up top and down below, as well as some clips of “Silent Running.”

In other Gorillaz news, Damon Albarn has been a divisive force in pop lately, drawing the ire of Taylor Swift fans for questioning her songwriting in an interview, and praising Billie Eilish in the same breath. The latter led to a Coachella appearance for him, so at least some of those interview comments worked out.

Kehlani Explains What Inspired The Title Of Her New Album, ‘Blue Water Road’

A little over two years after she released her sophomore album It Was Good Until It Wasn’t, Kehlani returned with her third official body of work with Blue Water Road. The project is comprised of 13 songs with guest appearances from Blxst, Jessie Reyez, Syd, Justin Bieber, Thundercat, and Ambre. Blue Water Road is a companion album of sorts with It Was Good Until It Wasn’t as it captures the brighter days that took place after the unfortunate events on her sophomore album. Together with the release of Blue Water Road, Kehlani stopped by Apple Music’s R&B Now Radio to share some insight about her latest release.

During her sit down with Apple Music’s Nadeska, Kehlani explained what inspired the title Blue Water Road. “I actually started the album down the street on Blue Water Road at this house,” she said during the interview. “It was an Airbnb that we got for a recording trip that was supposed to be for the deluxe of my last album, and then I left and had a big spiritual … I don’t want to say experience, but I went to a couple ceremonies and came back, and it was just completely different to me. The album just didn’t sound like … Or mentally, I wasn’t in the deluxe of my last album.”

She continued, “Mentally, I was super far away from my last album in general. And a couple songs resonated with something, I guess, that felt just like whatever the next was. And we didn’t want to lose that, but we also knew we couldn’t just keep renting out this person’s house down the street. So we found a studio, luckily, really close, and it still felt the exact same as the house down the street, so we just stayed here and made the whole album here.”

Shortly after this interview aired, Kehlani shared a new music video for “Everything.”

You can watch Kehlani’s interview on Apple Music’s R&B Now Radio in the video above.

Blue Water Road is out now via TSNMI/Atlantic. You can stream it here.

Kehlani is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.
