Dave Chappelle Takes On The Backlash To DaBaby’s Homophobic Comments In His New Netflix Special

The fallout from DaBaby’s disastrous Rolling Loud Miami set continues to settle, as more voices enter the chat to debate his demerits. While the majority of the reactions to DaBaby’s comments have deplored his ill-chosen words, Dave Chappelle has a different question on his mind. In his new Netflix special The Closer, which debuted today, Chappelle juxtaposes the backlash to DaBaby’s homophobic comments with the rapper’s violent lyrics — which aren’t all stereotypical rapper bluster.

Chappelle leads into the observation by cheekily addressing the backlash to his own recent sets, on which he seems to have specifically targeted queer people in order to point out what he sees as discrepancies in the way they are treated in comparison to Black people (setting aside the fact that people can be … both). “All the questions you might have had about all these jokes I’ve said in the last few years, I hope to answer tonight,” he says. “And I’d like to start by addressing the [LGBTQ] community directly. I want every member of that community to know that I come here tonight in peace and I hope to negotiate the release of DaBaby.”

After some additional preamble, he reminds the audience that before DaBaby’s rise to fame (in fact, almost immediately before it) the rapper was involved in a fatal shooting, in which he claimed self-defense. Then, Dave poses his observation: “In our country, you can shoot and kill a n***a but you better not hurt a gay person’s feelings.” It’s doubtful that anything’s as simple as that — queer people are often the targets of just as brutal crimes for little other reason than being queer — but to his credit, Chappelle promises to address the nuance in the special. We’ll see if he does.

DaBaby, meanwhile, has continued to address the fallout himself, meeting with organizations dedicated to HIV/AIDS awareness and sneering at some of his critics in his return to the stage at Summer Jam.

John Sparkz Links With Jim Jones & Action Bronson On “Uncle Junior”

If the release of The Many Saints Of Newark wasn’t an indication that Sopranos season is upon us, mixing engineer slash creator John Sparkz has come through to double down with a reminder. Linking with Action Bronson and Jim Jones for the Harry Fraud-produced “Uncle Junior,” Sparkz and his chosen consiglieres spit laid-back bars over a groovy instrumental evocative of decades come-and-gone.

“You ain’t my caliber, I’ll snatch your body out the challenger, you’ll be sleep for seven circles of the calendar,” raps Action, his unique lyricism brimming with character. On the other hand is the straight man Jones, the Sil to Bronson’s Paulie, though both parties are not to be trifled with. “We was young, we was dumb trying to get a dollar,” reflects Jimmy. “See police we would run, they trying to get a caller.”

Check out John Sparkz, Action Bronson, and Jim Jones’ latest collab right here.

Quotable Lyrics

You ain’t my caliber,
I’ll snatch your body out the challenger,
You’ll be sleep for seven circles of the calendar

Bhad Bhabie Called Out For New Video Look: “She Went From 14 To 35 Quick”

Pop culture phenomenon Danielle Bregoli, also known by her rap name Bhad Bhabie, has been in the public eye for the last half-decade and she’s battled all kinds of hateful, disrespectful, and trolling messages from critics. Recently, she has fought back body shamers telling her to gain weight, arguing that she’s at a healthy weight for her height. Throughout it all, she hasn’t lost her signature loud-mouth attitude, going off periodically against trolls on social media. We’re expecting another quick-witted response from Bhad Bhabie, because after reading the comments on her latest TikTok upload, it looks like a lot of people are passing judgment, yet again, on the way the teenage star looks.

Bragging on TikTok, Bhad Bhabie joked that she’s the top earner in her family despite being the “disappointment of the family.” She carried Chanel purses and stacks of cash in her hands, wearing heavy make-up and a new wig. Her look came under scrutiny from fans, who said she looked like a different woman.

“She looking real different like who is this,” said one person when The Shade Room reposted the video. “She look like a karen now,” observed another. “She went to 14 to 35 quick,” joked one more critic.

On her own post, the comments got even messier. “When did she change races?” asked one troll. “What in the surgery,” said another, despite Bhabie denying she got surgery a few weeks ago. “Damn I thought that was cardi b,” observed a few fans.

Bhad Bhabie is a regular target of body-shaming, and she will likely have something to say to all of the trolls attacking her on this post. What do you think of her look?

Westside Gunn Shows Love To Tyler, The Creator

Following the critical and commercial success of Tyler, The Creator’s Igor, many fans wondered if the Grammy-winning artist would be turning his back on his hip-hop sound moving forward.

Evidently, Tyler proved such speculation wrong with the release of his latest album CALL ME IF YOU GET LOSTa project that found him spitting bars alongside the stalwart presence of DJ Drama. Not only did the fans appreciate seeing Tyler in his lyricist bag, but Westside Gunn also appreciated his collaborator’s commitment to spitting bars after seeing major Grammy success.

Speaking with HipHopDX, Gunn opened up about his respect for Tyler, with whom he recently connected on Hitler Wears Hermes Side B. “Shout out to Tyler because he was one of the people who, even after winning a Grammy, he hopped on Pray For Paris,” Gunn tells the publication. “Even with this new album, he said I made him want to rap again.”

“A lot of people, even though they’re saying that behind the scenes, they’re not saying it publicly,” continues Gunn. “That’s why I respect Tyler and consider him a good friend because he made it known publicly during his whole rollout. He didn’t have to do that.” It’s certainly wholesome to see Gunn and Tyler’s friendship continue to grow, and we can only hope they continue to collaborate on wax in the future.

Despite their stylistic differences, Tyler and Gunn have managed to find common ground on a creative level, to the point where they’re actively influencing one another. For more from the Griselda rapper, be sure to check out his full interview with HipHopDX right here.

Bretman Rock Is The First Openly Gay Man To Grace The Cover Of Playboy

Early in his career, Bretman Rock joked with his manager about being in Playboy, but now, the 23-year-old is the first openly gay man to wear the iconic bunny suit for a cover shoot. At the beginning of October, the YouTuber shared the exciting news on his Instagram page.

“I’m a BUNNY duh!! @playboy to kick off spooky szn,” Rock captioned a photo dump of his sultry snapshots where he’s rocking a bunny suit, a bow tie, and of course, matching ears.

The Filipino star is best known for his bold (but classic Leo) persona, and his work as a social media content creator; he has over 13 million followers on TikTok and nearly 18 million on Instagram.

“This dates back to when my manager sat me down and asked, ‘what do you want to do?’ I jokingly said ‘Playboy‘ because I didn’t think it was possible. It… proves to myself that I can do anything I put my mind to,” Rock told Playboy during his cover story interview.

“And it’s crazy that Playboy believes in that as well and believes in me. It means the world to me.”

According to PEOPLE, Latin singer Bad Bunny is another famous BIPOC male that’s achieved Playboy cover status, and The Perks of Being a Wallflower actor Ezra Miller once wore bunny ears for his feature in the magazine.

“Just for Playboy to have a male on the cover is a huge deal for the LGBT community, for my brown people community, it’s surreal,” Rock said.

Offset Realizes He’s Addicted To Instagram

Yesterday was either very refreshing, or it was an absolute nightmare. Social media users were blocked from some of their favorite websites on Monday, with Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger all experiencing global outages throughout the day. Service was restored in the evening, but that didn’t stop people from complaining all over Twitter in the daytime.

A number of rappers and artists have spoken out about the Facebook shutdown, including Wale, Boosie Badazz, and others. But it was Offset who made the strongest observation during the outage, claiming that the most recent blank has shown him that he has an addiction to social media.

“Damn I just noticed I’m addicted to Instagram,” wrote the Migos rapper on Twitter, unable to log into the platform for hours amid the outage.

Like millions of others around the globe, Offset was unable to access any of the posts being uploaded to Instagram on Monday. The service was temporarily unavailable, causing a $6 billion decrease in Mark Zuckerberg’s personal net worth, dropping him to the fifth-richest person on the planet.

Even though he’s currently living it up with his wife Cardi B in Paris for Fashion Week, Offset still needed some time to scroll down his feed. Did you notice anything about your own social media habits during the outage?

Cordae Tells Fans They Are ‘Not Ready’ For His New Album In A Freestyle Over Drake’s ‘Way 2 Sexy’

Cordae released his debut album The Lost Boy a little over two years ago, and fans haven’t stopped clamoring for a follow-up since. Among those fans are starstruck veterans of the game like Lil Wayne, who offered to feature on the younger rapper’s next album, and Jadakiss, who recently praised Cordae in the most recent episode of The Shop, where he appeared alongside Cordae’s girlfriend, tennis champion Naomi Osaka.

Cordae teased the upcoming follow-up to The Lost Boy during a recent livestream on Twitch with gamer Adin Ross, freestyling over the beat to Drake’s recently released, tongue-in-cheek hit single, “Way 2 Sexy.” “Every year, I look more richer and sexy / Stackin’ my Millie, that Richard is heavy / My album is coming, you n****s ain’t ready,” he raps. Ross seems suitably impressed, exclaiming “Oh my god!” as Cordae drops punchline after punchline without missing a beat. You can watch the video courtesy of Cordae’s Hi-Level Records Twitter.

Meanwhile, fans who’ve been impatiently waiting for that follow-up album have still gotten plenty of new material this year, including his Just Until EP, his feature on Eminem’s “Killer” remix, Nas’ Spotify single “Life Is Like A Dice Game,” and Cordae’s single, “Taxes.”

Summer Walker Announces The Release Date Of Her Album, ‘Still Over It,’ With A Trailer Featuring City Girls’ JT

Summer Walker teased a release window for the follow-up to her 2019 debut Over It this past weekend after foregoing the BET Hip-Hop Awards and now, she’s revealed both its actual release date. Fittingly, it’s called Still Over It and it’s due on November 5 through LVRN and Interscope. Summer announced the project’s impending release with a colorful trailer featuring City Girls’ JT, reenacting a phone conversation between the two from this date, two years ago.

In the clip, Summer is wearing her all-pink outfit from the cover of Over It — a light pink bikini and du-rag — while sitting in the same room on the same phone. This time, though, we get to see who’s on the other line: JT, who at the time, was locked up for credit card fraud. Sure enough, JT appears in the trailer in her neutral, state-issued coveralls — although I doubt her face was beat to the gawds when she was actually in prison — as they make plans for a post-release hang.

JT was released in March last year, but then the world shut down due to a pandemic. Fortunately for Summer and JT, things are reopening and they can get back to those plans.
