Lute & Cozz Rep Dreamville On “Eye To Eye”

Lute’s Dreamville debut album Gold Mouf has officially arrived in full thirteen-song glory, so be sure to check that project out right here.

Featuring a thorough examination into the psyche of a longtime Dreamville representer, Lute’s latest is lined with capable lyricism and smooth production. That combination is in full swing on “Eye To Eye,” a duet with his fellow labelmate Cozz — an artist who happens to be due for a new album of his own.

The pair proceed to hold it down over an instrumental by The Nukez, with Lute setting a reflective tone in the opening verse. “Now I wonder who really got my back, n***s don’t even check to see where I’m at,” he admits, speaking frankly. “I really hate this rap shit sometimes / ‘Cause true friends are really hard to find.” Cozz follows his lead, taking a thorough self-examination on the man he’s aiming to be. ” I’m tryna be more than I was, more of a guy good, more of them good vibes,” he raps. “Gotta be much more than just a hood guy.”

Check out “Eye To Eye” now, and be sure to show Lute some support by checking out Gold Mouf in its entirety.

“Squid Game” Season 2 Is A Possibility, According To Netflix’s Global TV Head

It was recently revealed that the hot new Netflix original series, Squid Game, was shopped around for a whole decade before being picked up by the streaming service. Considering how many memes have surfaced as a result of the show, it’s surprising to find out that the script spent so much time in the reject pile.

Less than a month after the show’s premiere, Netflix’s Global TV Head, Bela Bajaria has been described as “upbeat” while speaking on the topic of Squid Game season two.

“We always knew it was going to be a signature title for Korea, but there’s no way to have anticipated it would be this big,” Bajaria said in an interview with Vulture.

She also said that a Squid Game renewal would be dependant on the schedule of creator, Hwang Dong-hyuk. Bajaria explained that he’s currently working on a film and some other projects, so Netflix is, “trying to figure out the right structure for him.”

Speaking of Dong-hyuk, he’s previously opened up about ideas that he’s had for season two during an interview with The Times.

“While I was writing season one, I thought about the stories that could be in season two if I get to do one—one would be the story of the Frontman,” the director explained.

“I think the issue with police officers is not just an issue in Korea. I see it on the global news that the police force can be very late on acting on things—there are more victims or a situation gets worse because of them not acting fast enough.”

He continued, “this was an issue that I wanted to raise. Maybe in season two I can talk about this more.”

Although Squid Game has become an internet sensation, elsewhere, some pointed out that the show unfortunately loses much of its initial impact when translated from Korean to English. Despite this, people are still finding new and creative ways to meme the show.

Have you streamed Squid Game yet, or are you waiting until the hype dies down? Let us know.

Crime Mob’s ‘Rock Yo Hips’ Video Makes BRS Kash, Hook, And Yella Beezy Want To Go To An HBCU

Atlanta crunk rap group Crime Mob may be best known for their 2004 hit “Knuck If You Buck,” but in 2006, the five-person band also released “Rock Yo Hips,” which actually charted higher, coming in No. 30 on the Hot 100 (“Knuck” peaked at No. 76). While “Knuck If You Buck” received new life thanks to the 2016 viral hit “Juju On That Beat,” which sampled Crime Mob’s debut single, “Rock Yo Hips” never quite achieved the same level of cultural ubiquity and longevity.

Which is why it’s the perfect video to show our panel of 20-something rising rappers on React Like You Know, including BRS Kash, Hook, Snow Tha Product, Toosii, Yella Beezy, and more. The video pays homage to historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs), featuring fraternities like Alpha Phi Alpha and Omega Psi Phi, as well as marching bands performing as Crime Mob rappers Diamond and Princess demonstrate the pre-TikTok dance step that goes with the song. Naturally, all this is pretty mind-blowing for our panel, who can’t help reminiscing about the song’s impact when they were still in — gulp — grade school. Meanwhile, Diamond’s verse prompts a debate on the best flavors of bubblegum and the video itself encourages some healthy praise of HBCUs and some fond recollections of the tall tee era.

Top-Rated Basketball Recruit Commits To Kanye West’s Donda Academy

Jahki Howard, one of the country’s top-rated high school basketball prospects, has officially announced that he will be transferring to Kanye West’s Donda Academy, marking the beginning of Ye’s college basketball program.

Howard is a top-five draft candidate for 2024, and he will have some support from other strongly rated talents at Donda.

“I will be moving to California and I will be transferring to Donda academy,” wrote Howard on Instagram. “I want to THANK YOU NORCROSS and the whole BLUE DEVIL FAMILY STILL WILL BE MY FAMILY.”

It was also announced that two other players, Jalen Hooks and Robert Dillingham, would be transferring to California to play for Donda Prep.

It was reported last month that Kanye’s new private school will open on a four-acre piece of land between Moorpark and Simi Valley. A tweet from the @dondasplace Twitter account previously described the plan for Donda Academy, writing, “Finding the intersection between faith and the innovation of the future, Donda Academy is focused on equipping students with an education that will last in the ever-changing world.”

Do you think that Kanye will have students in the NBA one day? Could Jahki Howard become the first player from Donda Academy to ever make the league? Check out his highlights below.

Troy Ave Takes On Drake’s “Way 2 Sexy” For New KeyMix

There’s no doubt that Drake can produce a hit but many seemed a bit confused that he chose “Way 2 Sexy” as the lead single for Certified Lover Boy. The sample and equally goofy music video helped propel the single to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 upon its debut. Sure, some fans have pushed back against it but it’s certainly growing on most people weeks after the album’s release.

We’ve heard a few freestyles over the song recently, as expected with any chart-topping Drake hit. Cordae offered a hot 16 during an appearance on Adin Ross’ live stream while Troy Ave came through with his own rendition of the track for his latest KeyMix. Troy delivers his own verse on the track which arrived at the same time as his remix of “Essence.”

Check out the latest from Troy Ave below.

N.O.R.E Confirms Drake Will Not Appear On “Drink Champs” Yet

Drink Champs has established itself as one of the foremost podcasts in hip-hop entertainment, and the charismatic team of N.O.R.E and DJ EFN have kept the conversations flowing — with a little help from the sauce, of course.

And while they have chopped it up with no shortage of rap legends, there are some who have yet to sit down at the Drink Champs table. While Drake was originally rumored to be appearing on the program — N.O.R.E himself seemed to indicate as much at the end of September, shortly after the release of Certified Lover Boy — it would appear that an appearance from The Boy is not in the cards. At least, not yet.

Speaking with HipHopDX, N.O.R.E affirmed that Drizzy’s appearance was nothing but a rumor given legs after a misunderstanding. “We ain’t get Drake, that was all a rumor,” he explains. “We were really just listening to Drake’s music and my man in the background said, ‘Drake’s on Drink Champs! And we just said, ‘Drink Champs!’

“But hey, he’s still in Miami,” continues N.O.R.E. “We’re still stalkin’ him. We don’t mind being told no. But you never know. We’re actually in Hawaii just listening to his music and randomly, someone posted it. I ran with the story because positive energy creates positive energy.”

Perhaps the rap legend’s energy will indeed pay off, as it’s beginning to feel like Drake appearing on the podcast is an inevitability. It has been rumored so often now that Drake is all but committed, and should he indeed pull up, the conversational format would likely lead to an insightful and entertaining glimpse into one of rap’s biggest stars.

ShooterGang Kony Keeps Applying Pressure With “Hall Of Fame”

Is ShooterGang Kony ready to drop again? The Sacramento rapper has been carving his own lane on the West Coast in the past few years. 2020, specifically, was a fruitful year of releases including the release of Red Paint Reverend, Still Kony 2 and F12. Needless to say, he’s been keeping busy. In the past few weeks alone, he’s unveiled his project, Starshooter, and appeared on G-Eazy’s latest project.

Today, the rapper returned with a brand new banger titled, “Hall Of Fame.” In his first single since Starshooter, the rapper takes on gritty synths and heavy bass with tenacity. He reflects on the lingering paranoia of the streets, even as his rap career continues on an upward trajectory, while also detailing his aspirations to run up the bag.

Check the latest from ShooterGang Kony below.
