Jay Electronica Comments On Drake Battle In The Most Jay Elect Way Possible

There are two kinds of rappers these days. The ones who are beefing with Drake, and the ones who have opinions about the Drake beef. Jay Electronica falls under the latter group. The New Orleans rapper took to X (formerly Twitter) to weigh in on the biggest hip-hop narrative of 2024, and he did so in a way that was classic Jay Elect. Instead of coming and stating how he felt, the rapper dropped references to two classic films.

The first film Jay Electronica referenced was Good Night, and Good Luck (2005). The Oscar-nominated drama is about Edward R. Murrow, a TV journalist who dared to push against the Red Scare narrative put forth by Joseph R. McCarthy in the 1950s. The rapper tweeted the title of the film, which is an expression meant to convey the notion that one must rely on themselves in the face of tremendous adversity. The same kind of adversity Drake is facing from every corner of the music industry at the moment.

Jay Electronica Supports Drake In The Rap Wars

“Good Night and Good Luck” was also the title of a Drake song from 2008. The song was Drake’s first ever diss, and it helped him to demolish a Toronto rapper named Aristo. It’s unclear if Jay Electronica quoted the expression with the context of Drake’s battle history in mind, but given his rapping abilities, it’s certainly possible.

The other film Jay Elect referenced was First Blood (1982), the first entry in the Rambo franchise. The specific scene sees Rambo’s ex-commander warn the local sheriff not to challenge the Vietnam veteran. “Are you telling me that 200 men against your boy is a no-win situation?,” the sheriff asks, to which the ex-commander states: “If you send that many don’t forget one thing. A good supply of body bags.”

The parallel Jay Elect is making between Rambo and Drake are obvious, as both men are being forced into battle with their backs against the wall. Drake even dressed up like the action hero in the music video for “Way 2 Sexy.” Given that Rambo is a legendary killing machine, it’s safe to infer that Jay Electronica is confident in Drake’s ability to succeed.

TikTok Producer Reveals How He Made Kendrick Lamar’s AI Diss

The truth is out. The Kendrick Lamar diss that’s been floating around the internet the last few days has been confirmed to be AI generated. There was widespread confusion as to who leaked Lamar’s alleged response to Drake and J Cole, but it turns out the “diss” track was made by a producer named Syd The Rapper. Syd revealed the truth via TikTok on April 16, and admitted he was surprised the AI track fooled so many listeners.

Syd proved the claim that he created the AI diss by showing TikTok users the music file on his computer. The artist explained that he wanted to make the track to see how convincing the AI technology could be. It turned out to be far more convincing than he expected. “I ain’t gonna lie, I psyched myself,” Syd stated. “I thought it was gonna sound fake, I thought people was gonna be able to tell it was fake. People think it’s actually real.” Syd went on to give the AI diss an official title, “One Shot,” before assuring fans that Kendrick Lamar had nothing to do with its creation.

Kendrick’s “Diss” Was Made Without His Involvement

Syd The Artist voiced his support for Lamar, and asserted that the real diss record will be much better than what he created. “I just wanna come out for the record and say that it’s AI,” he added. “That’s not Kendrick’s response. I know Kendrick’s gonna come harder than that. I just couldn’t get too disrespectful cuse I ain’t in that beef.” The artist closed out his confession on a lighter note by noting that Drake heard the AI diss. “I seen Drake heard it and commended, and he laughed at it,” Syd said, while also laughing.

Syd’s reveal shuts down the theories that some industry insiders had about Lamar’s track being “bad.” Daylyt, a rapper who appeared on J Cole’s Might Delete Later, tweeted that he knew the leak was AI. He even clapped back at Mal of New Rory And Mal Podcast for suggesting it was real. “Like I said 100000% ai,” Daylyt wrote. “@thisisrory tell mal I said put his account on mut [sic] for a few days lol.”

The good news is that Lamar’s real response has yet to see the light of day. The bad news is that AI is getting so advanced that fans can no longer tell what’s real and what’s not.

03 Greedo Releases Music Video For Maxo Kream Collab “R.I.C.O”

03 Greedo is making the most of his freedom. The Los Angeles rapper was locked up from 2018 to 2023, and has been on a roll ever since his release. The music video for his latest single, “R.I.C.O.,” is proof. 03 Greedo and Maxo Kream spit over an ominous beat that’s matched perfectly by the lo-fi aesthetic of the video. The camera switches between modern, hi-definition footage and grainy footage reminiscent of the 1990s. It’s a little retro, a little self-aware, and a lot of style.

The chill vibe of the the song’s first half is made all the impressive by the beat switch at the 1:41 mark. 03 Greedo and Maxo Kream kick their relaxed flows into high gear and deliver menacing bars about blasting snitches and serving time. “R.I.C.O.” also benefits from the chemistry between the two emcees. Greedo’s animated flow bounces off of Maxo’s deeper voice, creating a tension that carries throughout the track. The duo are clearly fans of each other, though, based on the fun interaction they have at the end of the video.

Warren G Shuts Down Rumor That He Was Beaten Up By Dr. Dre

Warren G is Death Row royalty. The rapper was one of the key members of the West Coast crew, courtesy of hits like “Regulate” and “This DJ.” According to Death Row co-founder Suge Knight, however, Warren G didn’t always get along with his peers. During the April 14 episode of Knight’s podcast, Collect Call With Suge Knight, he claimed that Warren G was beaten up by his own step brother, Dr. Dre. The claim that was denied by the Regulator himself.

Suge Knight started the episode by reflecting on Death Row’s heyday, but things took a turn for the awkward when Knight switched to the Warren G story. “You know when you was trying to use the phone when you wasn’t supposed to in front of Andre — your brother — slapped your a*s around,” he stated. “You start[ed] saying, ‘Okay blood. Okay blood. Please don’t do it no more, I’m sorry.’ You can say that that didn’t happen, but everybody knows it’s true.”

Warren G Exposes Knight’s “Tough Guy” Act

Despite Knight’s insistence that the incident was true, Warren G wasn’t having it. The rapper hopped on Instagram to call out Knight. “History would repeat itself, because n***a you wasn’t the only n***a in the room, n***a,” he reasoned. “You wasn’t by yourself. It was other people in the room, too. I’m not gonna say no names because like you said, we don’t talk…So why you on here talking? Let that sh*t go, man.” Warren G also criticized Knight’s reputation as a tough guy. He claims he defended Death Row’s honor whenever Knight got into trouble in the 1990s. “When you was at the comedy store,” Warren G added. “Fighting that little buff a*s n***a, who saved your muthaf***in ass? Me.”

To call Suge Knight’s reputation dubious would be an understatement. The ex-bodyguard is currently serving 28 years in prison, and will not be eligible for parole until 2034. Warren G, meanwhile, is getting ready to go on tour with fellow West Coast icons Snoop Dogg and DJ Quik. The trio will be embarking on the Cali To Canada tour, which kicks off June 3rd in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
